- After hiking the Appalachian Trail last year, I'm returning to the biggest event in the Appalachian Trail community, Trail Days! In Damascus, Virginia, this vlog will discuss what Trail Days (officially called Appalachian Trail Days) is, the two sides to it, and what it was like for myself and my fellow hikers to return after finishing our hike.

Thanks, that was very interesting! I live in Northeast Ohio, and think I'll be hitting some of the trail this summer. Checked their web site and it looks like I can ride my bike on the trail. Turning 76 in a couple days, so pedaling a bike is easier on this old body than walking! lol
So fun! I am definitely making my husband go to this next year. You interviewed three of the people he's met on his hike this year, so I really enjoyed getting to see them (I only knew their trail names). Thanks for bringing all of us along for your weekend!

Eh....i was there for a day and decided to keep hiking. I much prefer what the trail offers vs that party scene at tent city.
that has to be a great thing , getting back together with at least some of the people you knew / hiked with , do you think you'll ever do the AT again?
I’ve been thinking about that a lot, and maybe! It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and my body did not like it, but there’s such a unique sense of community and comradery!

Because you mentioned New Years, I wonder if you think of it as just a big party? I hope you watched the first minute of this and saw there’s two sides to the event, still plenty to do if you don’t want to party!
Although if you just mean New Years as in you don’t feel like leaving the house, I get that!
After hearing from you how many people cheat on actually hiking the whole trail, the group of hippies gathering for Trail Day is no longer impressive.
When I talk about myself and others still getting what we wanted from the experience without sticking 100% to the exact, assigned trail, it’s a matter of hiking like 2000 or 2100 miles instead of 2200. It’s up to you what you find impressive, but I still think of it as an accomplishment! ☀️
