For me the key thing for not getting backwinded in low wind foil gybe is to knife the mast to the outside of the turn, so that the wind hits the opposite side of the sail just behind the mast to help flip the sail. You can kind of see nils' cams pop as this happens prior to sail flip.

Thanks for the tips. Will try these soon. I like how the birds in the background are singing after your statements as if they seem to agree with what you are saying :)

I figured out the jib without footstraps and it helped, but now I have put the straps back on and I find with booties on its difficult to hit the strap when moving the foot, without the booties much easier to feel it. You can actually take your eyes off the water and watch your feet to make sure they hit the strap on the switch, but with practice and muscle memory it becomes easier. The other little glitch is each time you use a different size sail you have to recalibrate the brain for different balance points. Going from a small sail to a large sail take about 1/2 hour to get back into the groove. Take a deep breath before the jib and zen yourself around, no awkward movements, stay super relaxed and focused on being balanced and making the moves without hesitation.

Nailed my first foiling jibes yesterday, after changing my gear from freerace towards a slightly more freeride oriented set up (1200cm2 frontwing instead of ~800cm2 and a no cam sail instead of a 2 cam). Main benefit: More time to shift a smaller handling friendlier sail😅

super video! I'm almost always up flying on my foil gybes these days... wish this video had been around when I was still struggling! Also nice to see someone else without their back foot straps in! :)

Fantastic tips! That's a great insight that the sail pushes the nose down, this helps to understand why the nose goes up when sheeting out when overpowered as well. I'd been trying to go straight to the new footstrap, keeping the sail close to me, but not leaning forward enough so i now know why it was impossible to stop the bronco from bucking....

My top tip for smooth gybes is to flip the sail perfectly balanced around the mast base if you need to hold it up on one side it puts weight on your feet and upsets your board trim

Gute Erklärung. Ich wechsel die Füße erst nach dem schiften, fahre aber Freeridematerial. Sehe das allerdings bei allen anderen Foilern anders und zwar so wie du es erklärst. War letztes Wochenende bei euch auf dem See. Sehr cooles Revier

I see that you do not use rear straps, I have read and seen other runners say that it is important to go with the two straps on the feet to get the maximum speed, what do you think about it?

Hi Nils. I really battle to get into the back strap after a gybe especially on wide boards. Any tips ? :)

Gute Erklärung für die Foiljibe. Eine Airjibe ist aber eigentlich was anderes ;).
