I think the major thing for this performance was that it just didn't seem like there was a lot of rehearsal, which isn't a bad thing - we're all just used to Madonna, the ultra slick superstar who doesn't let anything go wrong and every second of the performance has something going on. I think on one hand, it's fun to see Madonna being a lot more loose and just having a good time both on stage and on her social media, but on the other hand I worry that this period of being extremely present on social media and "mid" performances is what people will focus on when the inevitable happens and they're writing her obituaries rather than the 40 years of being an absolute superstar, the best popstar to walk this Earth and whose impact will be felt for hundreds of years to come in music.

@Adam Robert Promiscuous women have always been, and will always be, looked down on by the majority. Do you honestly think that in the future when people look back on the past, they'll rate Madonna at all? She never did anything by herself - she consistently used male producers, songwriters etc. She had no innate talent (which she said as much in Truth or Dare, and has even said "Everything about me is mediocre"), so there is nothing of worth to remember about her.
People will look back on her with regret and wonder how she was ever popular. There has never been one woman in all of history who promoted wh0redom that was celebrated for it. Madonna is of her time and is old now so her trying to sell s e x is creepy. Humans have never celebrated s!uts through the ages and they never will. Why? Because nobody wants that for a wife and no one wants their daughter to act like that. Madonna is of her time but the future societies will not be kind to her.

Something is up with Madonna , she seems to be struggling to breath in interviews I noticed that in a couple of her interviews lately and just seems uncomfortable, I don't know if it's too much recreational fun, or she is trying to conceal something, up until a few years ago she looked amazing, performed better than artists half her age, now she sings over an autotuned track forgets her cues and lyrics her voice deteriorated of late also. It seems all her discipline and hard work and living healthy have been kicked out of the window, its a shame because she is still an Icon but this way she's smearing her reputation and it's not good.

In the past Madonna treated her body like a temple with daily work out routine, healthy nutrition, almost no alcohol and no drugs. About the time of her Rebel Hear tour I realised that she now casually poses on many pictures with alcohol (even drinking on stage) or sharing a bong with her then boyfriend. I think that she may no have a problem with alcoholism which would explain some things. In 2005 she fell from her horse and had some fractures, after the Madam X tour she had a surgery on her knee. So she actually may also have some physical issues.

She also had a major hip surgery which took a toll on her. Having that all said, her doing what she wants and likes, even if we aren't a fan of it, is the beauty of Madonna. I'm not against Madonna still performing, but I think it's important for her to realize that she wasn't a great vocalist to begin with, and age is taking a toll on that overall. She could do a great ballad acoustically while standing still or sitting on a chair, with lots of latino things and dancers going on around her. But all this "shock value / trying to stay young" is getting old, and more importantly, very cringy.

I'm think you gave a good honest assessment. I try not be ageist and had a good debate with my manager on this....I do try and embrace Madonnas idea that we need to challenge this idea that women should just stop at a certain age and should just be in knit wear etc. She challenged that in her 30s 40s and 50s
BUT...I think you nailed it already....back THEN she had energy, she was fit and healthy and I do worry for her...she just looks like she is in pain, uncomfortable and struggling. She just doesn't show that energy. AND while you can still dress what you want and feel...YOU CANT STOP YOUR BODY AND IT WILL AGE. And I think you had to listen to your body sometimes and slow down or at least within reason keep up with fitness levels but she's left it so long now and with age it will be harder. I know myself since lockdown and we had no gyms...in that two years...my body did slow down and I am playing catch up and I'm only in my mid 30s. I'm still healthy and fit but I can't build my strength as quick as I use too.
She needs to slow down, focus on her vocals and get her back to speed. But like as long as she is happy who am I to judge.
However, I do agree her vocals were better here than recently...not sure how much is live or track but for me it seemed like a bit of both and...yeah...not like it was 5 years or even 10, 15+ years ago but I think she is trying to get her vocals shaped up.
I think your criticism was fair speaking as a big Madonna fan myself.

I agree Tina retired at 70 still killing it every show. Its possible . Dame Shirley is 83 and is better than most still . Its when they aren't comfortable that its sad. She didn't have any stage presence and was breathless which isn't pleasant to hear. It reminds me of a later Pete Burns perfromance especially as he ended up singing over himself and sounded out of breath too and she looks like the plastic surgery is showing now too and she is hunched over. I hope she doesn't meet the same fate. If she could sit down and sing something I would still wanna hear it but it has to be natural and the performer has to appear to be enjoying it. Like Grace Jones still wears outragous outfits at 75 but can sing like shes 60 still and can hula hoop and dance all she wants. Ok its not the same as her at 30 but I'd go see her if it was cheaper and nearer to get Grace Jones tickets . Hopefully Madonna can get her back sorted and breathlessness and sing like she used to . the Rebel heart tour she sounded good still.

With Madonna it's like with your sister: You love her one day, she annoys you the next, but she always comes back. The Eurovision performance wasn't that great, but the Madame X Tour that followed must have been great (if you believe the critics). What saddens me about the "not brilliant" performances is that she kind of screws up her own legacy a bit. She really needs to ask herself sometimes how she wants to be remembered: as an iconic artist and perfectionist who wrote great songs like "You'll See" or "Live To Tell" and gave great speeches about Michael Jackson and women in society, or as an "attention-seeking" pop star with weird pics and vids on Instagram. I hope the first will prevail and not that people will only praise her career again when she is dead.

I cannot say it was her best on stage, but I can say that it was glad to see her on the stage again after all she's been through in 2019 & 2020. The thing about forgetting the lyrics it's not new, in fact she makes fun of that. One thing is that it's been 10 years since her last visit to latin america, it would have been incredible watching her giving her best even considering she was the guest there. Anyways, as you said on the video "It's MADONNA" and Maluma was very respectful with her. Still, love her )l(

One thing I have noticed about her so called "live" performances and tours is she plays it safe vocally. Number one she chooses easy to do songs live (Frozen,Music,La Isla Bonita,Vogue,Human Nature) over and over again and I am sick to death of them and don't like them anymore. She has a number of more challenging songs never done on tour (Swim,Skin,Survival,Inside Of Me,I'll Remember,This Used To Be My Playground,Survival,I Want You,One More Chance,Promise To Try,Rescue MeThief Of Hearts,Words,Secret Garden,Spanish Eyes and on and on) Why does she never do these? It's because she's not vocally up to task and charges ridiculous amounts for her shows even for the crappy seats.I remember her Madame X tour youtube videos of her leaving theaters after performances with adoring fans outside. She acknowledges no one. She's very arrogant. I think the true queen of reinvention is PJ Harvey. She's good live vocally and many argue better live than on the albums. The opposite is said of Madonna.PJ Harvey is a true songwriter and plays an instrument and truly reinvents on a musical level. Each album is sonically different and she does most of it herself and learns new instruments even.Madonna reinvents on a surface level by changing producers and writers. She depends on others to reinvent her.PJ Harvey does not so much.Madonna doesn't reinvent on a deeper musical level and does not play an instrument.Madonna's last 4 records are terrible and drenched in autotune and trend chasing desperate for Top 40 relevance. The lyrics are weak. She just can't write good lyrics. They are childish and you would think 4 decades in she would come up with something better than Bitch I'm Madonna and Bitch I'm Loca. It's lazy writing. Her performances are lazy now and I attribute all her knee and back issues with those God awful gigantic butt implants and her breast implants. She looks like a fat hippo out of breath in this performance with Maluma. She sings over playback and she can't even get her timing right on that.Another issue I have is her vampiric latching on of young sexy pop artists ( if you want to even call them artists). It is as if she cannot rely on her own writing and producers to give her relevance. And the artists are garbage featured on her songs on the last 4 albums. She does not work with true writers and musicians on her features and that says a lot about her talent and confidence in herself.I think she has some psychological problems and drug issues. Her videos of recent have been bizarre and her face is unrecogbizable.Like you I used to think highly of her, American Life was a great album thanks to Mirwais.Ray Of Light was great thanks to William Orbit and Confessions On A Dancefloor is great thanks to Stuart Price. After that it went downhill when she divorced Guy Ritchie. She needs to hang it up but her ego won't let her.You should analyze live PJ Harvey songs and videos from different eras because she sings in several different styles on each album (and B Side). There has also been some chatter going around in the undercurrent that Madonna might have a drug issue going in with pain meds.It would explain her out of breath performances and bizarre social media videos. Also she needs to fire Guy Oseary and have a tiny little voice sit on her shoulder and whisper in her ear " No Madonna that's not a good idea.No Madonna.Don't.Try this instead.Go down this path. Not that one."

Hi Georgina! She was very nervous. Many years since she doesn't perform in a stadium and first time performing after recovering from her multiple injuries. She arrived in Medellin the day before the show, so not too much preparation or rehearsal. That said, I do think she was pushing herself too hard and she didn't look very comfortable doing all that jumping and running around, although she looked confident. I do think that expecting her to be classy just because she's 63 is a little ageist/sexist. Like, what is "classy" anyway? At the end of the day, she's the only one still pushing boundaries, when she could just retire, like Tina and other female singers you mentioned in the video. One day, probably after her death, she'll be praised for it.

I’ve loved Madonna since the ‘80s and will continue to do so, so am certainly not a ‘hater’.
I noticed the same issues as you highlighted in this performance: the hunched posture, the breathlessness, the uncharacteristic mistakes. In addition, we know she’s had to hip & knee surgery in recent years and is likely feeling the results of decades of punishing performances. My other great love through the years was Prince and we know in later years he was similarly struggling with physical issues and pain, ultimately leading to his death.
My worry for Madonna is that she keeps chasing her legacy of being an amazing stage performer and, in the process, neglects her self-care. I want Madonna to continue performing & entertaining for as long as she wants to but I don’t want her to suffer or harm herself by doing so. I think we, and she, need to reassess our expectations of what that looks like. I don’t think it’s ageist to say that a human body at age 60 cannot be pushed to the limits that a body 20-30 years younger can manage.

Let's do not hope that people will say this to jlo, gaga , britney when they have her age. While I am not a fan of Madonna as a singer (and many of her songs are not great), but she was a very talented modern dancer and you can see that in her performances. If she is a bit hunched over it may be osteoporosis and/or arthritis, plus, as a trained dancer she pushed her body hard, as dancers do, so there are some consequences to that. I do think she should take a cold hard look at what she does well and stick with that, develop those aspects of performance, morph into whatever that persona is and push the aging performer envelope forward. Like Bowie did, he knew what he could and couldn;t do well and took that into account as he aged and performed. She could make some films of her music, not just videos, more on the Lemonade (Beyonce) idea. What does everyone think?

I agree with you on this one. I'm a big Madonna fan for 38 years but I wish that she would still be polished and professional and keep improving her voice even with the raunchy stuff. I was disappointed with her Madame X album with her heavy use of Autotune which made her more remote and distant and not intimate. Although I appreciate her political views on the album but musically she didn't seem to express her anger and passion as well as she could have. I felt like she was dialing it in. I hope that her next album is much better musically, melodically and vocally. I also didn't like her surprise 2021 NYC Pride performance.
I would prefer her to be more classy with some touches of naughtiness. I don't want her to ruin her great legacy that she has built up to this point. I know she may be having fun and she does what she wants but c'mon Madonna, you can do better than that. We know that she has developed and improved her singing voice for the recording of the Evita soundtrack and the Ray Of Light album and maybe even up to Music and American Life albums but it seems like she let all that vocal training go. I'm sure she can bring it back again if she wants to.

I think people are absolutely silly. There is nothing wrong with her free style, she is natural in this show. Just making an improvised show for people. This is not about perfection, but about feeling and enjoyment of the moment. They are dancing like most of normal people do, all latina women in her age of 63 like to have fun and if there is a party they would enjoy. Madonna shows to people, to women of her age: do what you want and enjoy it! whatever! Forget about image, forget about what people think about you. there is not much time left. So what, she put on weight, she had probably several surgeries of her hips or knees, no wonder after 50 years or more of dancing and she has backpain, or is not as flexible as she used to be. BUT WHAT? They created an atmposphere ful of fun and joy. There is nothing wront about Madonna being old and Maluma beiing young. They are just performing, acting, creating illusions - making an visual entertainment for their vocal exhibition. I think people are just too fast to judge. Just think about it twice, and get back to this clip later on.... Enjoy life as it is! The moment!

If you look at artists 10 years younger than her, like Kylie, Janet Jackson or Gwen Stefani (for eg) they've already begun to transition themselves to that more "legacy" artist image. They're still beautiful women, with great talent, but they're just pitching their entire image a bit differently to when they were young. It's a tad less provocative, a bit more classy. Kylie's not going to throw on her gold hot pants again, Gwen has popped her midriff away, Janet's outfits are more structured and covering, her dance moves just that little less intense, none of them would grind up against a guy young enough to be their son on stage. It's not ageism Georgina, it's just being realistic about age and where your audience is at. Madonna hasn't made that transition unfortunately.

That along with the fact that she clearly doesn't "work out" like she used to and who can blame her really works against her. I often see her wearing very thick heavy boots these days as well that have like 4-5 inch soles on them which can't be good either. As far as her breathing even when she was younger and thin and an insane physical specimen she'd still run out of breathe fairly easy.
