    I suggest to anyone who wants to attempt fix their main mice, buy the tools(the tools is cheap) and practice desolder & soldering with your cheap/unused mice first. The tools that i usually use are Soldering iron with adjustable temperature, hot steam solder, normal solder lead, low melt solder lead, flux, solder sucker. Use flux while soldering, trust me it would help you tremendously.
    Once you're able to replace your own mice's switch, you will never ever to buy a mice again if the switch was broken, just buy the switch and replace it yourself. Imo this skill is a must for every gamer, it's worth it.

      Watched this video first, it’s a great option if you don’t want to go inside into the switch, but there is a super small plate that you can fix assuming it’s just been worked down over time. And still registers clicks. Super annoying to deal with, but for me better than soldering.

      Responding to an old comment, I know.
      The inconsistency between anecdotal reports is crazy. Some people had theirs die within weeks. Others right after the warranty expired. My own died (with VERY heavy use) after 6 years with no warning. Just zero click actuation. Another article discussed the much heavier duty buttons / switches in a Logitech that still fit within the 2014 Naga Epic housing. Given the overwhelming bad will they've generated over the last 7-10 years, one would think someone at the multimillion dollar company would think "maybe we spend the small fraction of the cost for superior switches."
      When mine gave the ghost up most didn't believe it lasted as long as it did. Some swore that Razer had changed the switches to something more durable to handle the repeated use, but it's tough plunking down at least $100USD before tax knowing that I won the lottery with the last one. I'd go for the similar multibutton panel Logitech or Corsair but they don't fit my hand or grip style nearly as well, so after using a Z-grade bargain mouse for way too long it's time to brush up on my solder skills and start looking into what good buttons switches will fit AND last.

    Planned obsolescence is the problem. It's an attitude all companies have adopted several decades ago, and it kept getting worse. Cheaper and cheaper parts to increase profits. It's not just Razer that's causing this issue. It's the cheap sheet metal they are using in the switches. They wear out too quickly. Older mice used better, stronger switches.

    I'm not the most logical guy but my razor basilisk mouse dropped into a dog water bowl half inside dripping from the inside while on... It got shutdown and I had to let it out to dry in the sun for a few days by an open window turning the mouse around in different angles to let the water seep out of each potential hole area... Then I tried to use it my left mouse button didn't work and other buttons were glitchy... I smacked my mouse on different angles to see if it would work. Low and behold it made the mouse react but the level of intensity one had to hold onto or sensitivity of the click was erratic and down right drag doesn't work and it clicks multiple times in 1 click especially when holding the left mouse button. After much fiddling around, shaking, slamming my mouse on my table in different angles without potentially damaging the inside or the outside onto a soft padded mousepad. I eventually was about to give up ever being able to drag and drop anything with a mouse until I decided 1 thing. I remembered my nintendo and super nintendo days where I blew air into cartridges. That worked and now I can drag and drop... However, from time to time if my mouse ever gets jumbled or shaken a bit too much depending on how severely your mouse could be damaged, it may require even more calibrations of my method... Or it may not even work for you. This seriously keeps my mouse barely in working order until I can afford to get another mouse I can use to play Destiny 2 in the crucibles on ranked PVP on a decently competitive level... I still use my mouse to play games, like competitive FPS and many ranked games like League of Legends, DoTA 2 that require things of that sort. My method isn't a long term sustainable way just letting you know. I do this with cheap headphones that don't work on 1 earphone sometimes and adjusting the pressure towards the end of the tip requires some sort of twisting towards a certain angle & weight that puts enough pressure on a certain angle so a stronger connection can be made to actually get signal from both earphones on my laptop or desktop computer. I do this until I the wire inside has been completely bent and twisted to the point where connection just isn't possible anymore... I'm not a technical type of guy so I end up buying a new one after that. In the end, it is wiser to find ways to make more money than to save more. Not that saving more isn't beneficial, it is if that is a better use of your time after weighing the pros and cons.

    what about side buttons of a razer naga hex - they are unresponsive too, they have to be pressed super hard to work :)

    • @RetroRepairYT
      @RetroRepairYT  Před rokem

      I would disassemble that side. For the Naga there is two screws behind the side plate where the buttons are. Take them off and clean and blow out the buttons. Use a tooth brush to get in tight. I would also use 90 percent IPA on the tooth brush and start liberally brushing the buttons when cleaning. There could be small deposits of dirt in the micro switches. So the method would be. Brush exposed micro switches with a dipped tooth brush of IPA 90 for a couple of seconds (not very hard either just enough to brush the surface and get the IPA to leak into the micro switches). Then press all the switches a few times and repeat 2 to 3 times. Then put it back together and test. That is where I would start

  • @Triscraft

    I had a small problem with the left button. it wouldnt comfortably hold the weight of my finger resting on it and would feel like it would double click though functionally it wasnt.
    Just had to take the top-plate off and physically (but carefully) bend the button plate back down to the correct posistion so it was back to being flush with the bottem plate and switch.
    After doing so the double click feeling was gone and the button would again allow my finger to rest on it without this loose / wobbly feeling.
    Hope this helps someone :) Got away with it since no switch replacement / soldering was needed for my problem.

      @@RetroRepairYT I would argue their failure rate is 100%. Every person I talk to who bought one had it die either right before or right after the 1 year warranty. Buying one is just buying a ticking time bomb. I wish I had the repair tools to fix mine. if I had someone like you in my area iId pay you to fix it for me because it costed me $129 CAD + $30 for warranty (that isn't covered anymore) and I'm not too keen on buying a new mouse after this one's been barely used. Seems to be a lot of people having issues with their Naga mice in the comments. I must have whatever the opposite of a lemon is. As I type this comment I'm still using my 2013 Blackwidow Ultimate Keyboard, Naga Hex Mouse and Goliathus Mousepad/Mat all purchased at release, which I believe was in 2012. I easily average 8+ hours a day of use across all three products over the last 9-10 years.
    My mouse now requires me to press much harder or else I get random double clicks or it will drop when I try to hold and drag. Started a few weeks ago. I was here to see how to open it up. I thought maybe it needed a good clean, like something was blocking me from pushing the switch far enough, but it looks fine inside. I guess the switches have just worn down after all this time. The pad/mat still looks great and I still love my keyboard, no issues.
    I would, however, not be able to recommend any headsets from Razer as I've tried, and/or witnessed someone in my circle try, just about every headset they make and they all fail in one way or another after a few months. Assuming they weren't tossed because of how difficult it can be to get them to work with their features and app interfering with windows features and apps interfering with voice program features and apps...lol.
