    remember watching this game at my best mates house who is no longer with us. Thanks for posting. There was a lot of positive hype at the time surrounding scotlands involvement in the world cup. They had a decent squad and a chance of going all the way.

    Hartford was a machine at midfield. Despite being short, he was close twice to score by his head.
    From the commentators and highlights, Scotland seamed to have more chances and the side aggressive with more initiative but unlucky as usual.

    A Star Studded Teams ... With contrasting fortunes in the 70s ... It's beyond explanation how the Scotland teams of 70s & 80s failed to progress beyond the Group stage of the World Cup ... An Unwanted record that remains until today ...

    It seems the players were wearing squad numbers for that years Home internationals,as Ray Clemence(12) started and finished the match.Peter Shilton(1) was on the bench.Ron Greenwood was alternating between the two most of the time.Five consecutive European Cup wins between them.1977-81.I won't get into an Alan Rough debate,but the Umbro kit of Yellow/white/red looks superb,especially in the Hampden sunshine.

      I so wish they could bring back the home championship. You all looked forward to playing Scotland as much as we did, you. Nowadays it’s us that yearn to face England yet somehow it feels like that it’s not a mutual feeling for many of the England support? Sign o’ the times I guess?

    • @SMSJSC
      @SMSJSC Před rokem

      @@duneideannaer5990 Yes, absolutely they should bring back the Home Internationals. If not every year, then let's make it at least every two. They wrapped it up in about 1984, did they not? The England-Scotland match continued for a few more years, but of course as we know, even that was shelved. By the way, let me have a rant here - I thought it was a damn rotten thing to do, to basically abandon Wales and N Ireland. So I say, to all four FAs... bring it back!!

      No he wasn’t ( and I’m Scottish ) ? One goal in 10 matches through his career and two league cup medals. How he ever got a game with a club, never mind an international career is staggering.
