- Let's put my brand new 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse to the test! Completely broken in, I'm now with @HennesseyPerformanceF5 in Texas for a stock dyno run and to burn some tires, perhaps a little further than intended... What happens next, who knows!
With almost exactly 2,500 miles on the dash only 8 days after picking up the Dark Horse with full PPF, it must be one of the highest mileage customer cars out there, but also means it is now fully run in and ready to be enjoyed. Having been out to Hennessey with my Shelby GT500 (coincidentally also at 2,500 miles) a couple of years ago, we're back with the new 2024 Mustang to have some fun.
Naturally, the Hennessey team are working on their upgrade package that will be coming soon, but it's the perfect set up to see where the power levels sit, before running through the Track Apps and seeing where it goes. First up the Line Lock, before testing Launch Control, then the various timing systems, with everything going totally fine until I try a donut too many...

Miss the Shmuseum updates with Brad and Tom. They played a huge part in the build, yet no updates in what they are doing with their lives 🤷🏻♂️
He did an update a few videos back in the comment section. Brad is still part of the team but unfortunately Tom is not.

What a great episode! I love to see a muscle car actually being driven. Well done and that was some great driving. The Dark Horse has to be one of the most exciting cars on sale today. Good call Shmee on getting one. You can tell this car was made by people who are passionate about cars. Also very cool Shmee has friends like Hennessey that will allow him to have his own track day. Great video Tim and team. I have a sneaky suspicion you got out of the car after line lock to see what happened. It would’ve been a good opportunity to see your reaction as a big part of the appeal of your videos is seeing your enjoyment and the more organic things that happen. Keep on having fun y’all 😎👍.
Now that’s something we don’t get to see in so many car shows is: “How does this this bit work?”. Thinking about Mr Shmee’s ability with presenting any car model with a quick overview plus well paced details. I can imagine many a dealership for exotic cars using your vid as a training class on how to present a vehicle to a new client. Perhaps you could do a video manual for companies like ford where Shmee is there with “oh you bought one of these too? Well this is how you can do….”
As for the auto rev function. I can see a good practical use for that. Being in a building and seeing not far from my parked vehicle a nefarious looking individual lurking suspiciously in the area. Using the key fob from afar , make them think that some people are obviously in that vehicle over there. I’ll walk away trying to look innocent in the opposite direction.
Those Trofeo RS's are ridiculous. Super soft and will maybe last you one track day... $650 dollars to replace one. Cup 2's are the way to go.

Hey tim. Congratulations on the dark horse! Just glancing through the comments theres a few people being negative and hating. I don't understand it i will always choose to be inspired over jealous it's the same emotion! Its amazing that you've come from catching pics of supercars in London to having an awesome car collection, the most amazing man cave and the opportunity for brands to say "hey do you fancy a spin in our priceless prototype, historic or mega car?" Thank you for entertaining me through some of my darkest times.
I think it's a combination of super soft very warm tyres and the abrasive track
I'm a huge Mustang fan and have owned 13 of them. My current is a 2019 GT350, which is by far my favorite of all I have owned. I have mixed feelings about the Dark Horse. I'm not the biggest fan of the Camaro quart panels and the nose of the car. I'm sure it'll grow on me, but it will never look as good as a GT350 IMO. And as good as the DH sounds, it aint no GT350 Voodoo.
I’m missing some road trip videos. It would be fun to see the journey from Chicago, and not just the visits.

Tim love the videos watch them and every one. One thing I would love to hear is comparisons to other cars when your driving a car. So for example you said 'launch control can be tricky in some cars', be great to hear which cars they are. Also when you drive some of the hyper cars would love to hear comparisons in speed and acceleration to your Zenvo or other cars for a comparison as we have no idea how the stack up for people that have never driven anything with more than 300bhp ::)

I’m not really a fan of white cars but I do find the irony amusing of a white “dark” horse.
Seeing as how you are going to be the only person with a Dark Horse on Cup 2’s I’d love for you to go out on track with another one on Trofeo RS’s so everyone can get some real data on how the new tires compare to the tried and tested Cup 2’s.

it's okay, i did the same thing in a BRZ.
from my research, the only way to prevent delamination of the tread, you either need great discipline to gently skid all tires evenly, be more modest with he throttle, or install a tire cooling system that sprays water on the rear tires to have the surface heat more evenly and melt/wear down rather than *flwoflouflopfpfploplop*
i cant see you taking the modest path, i hope you install a water spritzing setup in the rear wheel wells on this car.

When using launch mode on a non prepped surface u can't just drop the clutch like that u still need to release it slower

In case you didn't know (bold of me to assume, I know) the Line Lock feature is to keep the car from throwing the rear end out when doing a rolling burnout, not a stationary one.

I will never understand the need to do doughnuts in cars and, as a result, shredding the tyres, especially in a brand new car. It can't be good for the car and would you really want to do a road trip on tyres that have been abused in this way, even if they hadn't fallen apart?

Shmee it was the surface, that surface will destroy any tyre. Find some nice shiny bitumen and that wont happen. I think you can change the revs of the launch control as 2000rpm is the standard setting.
The optimum launch RPM varies depending on the surface grip.

I’m sure you seen in the editing process that it didn’t start timing until you were already rolling for 2 seconds
It's not 5 seconds, not even the base is that slow, the base GT hits low 4 seconds easily, the DH can do 3.8-3.9

Tires should not do that that quickly, has to be a fault in the process.

It's not a fault in the process, those tires are made for a 1 day track worth of fun, they are sticky and wide, an abrasive track with not so warmed up tires will shred them and they were already pretty worn.
Also, if you can do that donut, I'm confident you can drift it, Shmee. Thanks for trying though! :D

Would be cool if they could make the manual auto rev aswell given with how high tech these cars are they will know when they are in neutral, could only make it start in neutral. Probably have to bypass the clutch start but they should do it for the enthusiasts. Where theres a will theres a way! 😀
