I'm new and I really want to know what happened with Cookies Fishroom...is there a video on that?? lol
@@r0syyyy My last live video was on it. Basically, one of their mods was encouraged to leave bad feedback for my friend Keith from KJE Aquatics. They got called out and it got ugly.
I support my friends!
My sense of the way the CoOp does business is that they welcome "brutal" reviews so they can improve their products. It's why I trust any product they put their name on.
Pretty much!
They also donât sell things to people that they donât believe in, so they only put out quality stuff.
I completely agree
Another good feature of the Aquarium Co-op sponge filters is that the three larger sized ones are stackable. So if you have a taller tank or want to double up on the amount of sponge without taking up bottom foot space in your tank, the bases pop off and you can connect the sponge portions together to double stack them.
I didnât even know that! Thanks for the tip!
Yup as stated by Cory many a vid ago.
like every other sponge filter that uses this design.
@@koffee3816 Which other ones would those be? None of the other sponge filters I've used do. Would be nice to know the brands.
@@kakarikiyazoo any of the grey ones that have the weighted base, all stack when you remove the uplift tube.. aqua one range for example (half his price too)
Great shirt! Iâm having some coffee and enjoying this review. Thanks for all of your content, Michael. Itâs super helpful for newbies like me!
Glad to hear it!
LOVE mine. I have them in several tanks, and they're great. And the green tube blends nicely in my planted tanks too.
That is awesome!
Thank you. Love your reviews. You keep it real. Love the co op spong filter's. Got them in all but one out of 17 tanks.
Glad you like them!
I have 20 of these filters and love them. The extra weight and the green color is great. I also like the sponge they use more.
I totally agree!
@@MichaelsFishRoom BTW... I enjoy your videos. Just got back into the hobby about 2 years ago. Nice to see such great info at your finger tips. 20 years ago it was much harder to keep fish. lol People like you are really getting more back into the hobby. Thanks for sharing your hobby and knowledge with everyone.
I have the Aquarium Co-op sponge filters in all of my aquariums. They really do work great. I also love the Ziss airstones. No maintenance on them after 2 years.
Good to know!
Awesome filter i have one too. great quality and very well thought out idea of corse sponge and air stone connector.

Great review Michael. The coarse sponge works well whether itâs for your intake or just the sponge filter itself. Easy maintenance and great longevity.
Yes Sir!
Thanks for the honest review! I have these in several tanks and I to am "lazy" I like the action that these sponges create!
Thanks for watching.
Great review, been using their sponges for 5 years or so and they get the job done from my 10 gallon shrimp tank up to my 75 gallon cichlid tank.
NICE!
which filter size did you use? also u probs wont see this since ur comment was a while ago.
@@waterbottle1778 Reply I had used the Aqueon 55/75 and Penguin 350 on my 55's. They have since been changed to Aquaclear 110s. On my 29 I use the Aquaclear 50. On my 10s I use the med size sponges and one has a Tetra internal. On my 7.5 I use a nano hob filter.
I love them! I also liked your vid on how to use them with airstone.
It looks like your plecos love them too!
Everyone does!
I've been using that same setup. I love it. I switched my shrimp tanks to those, and it seems to be working better than the typical sponge filter. đ
Great to hear!
Any issues with babies getting in there? đ
@@aqualungs77 I have about ten of these but no issues yet đ
I think I ordered my first spongy filter around the same time you got yours. I love it! Great for my crayfish tank

I have 4 of these and love them.
Cool!
My newly revamped fishroom is full of these sponge filters!! I absolutely love them! I have yet to find another brand that has the flexibility that these filters have. Cant buy enough!
Cool! How big is your FR?
Just big enough for three 20 gallons and two 10s. I also have a 35 gallon drum that i age water in for water changes.
I love these too. I am changing all my tanks over to these. đđđ
Nice!
If it wasnât enough that it came from Aquarium Co Op,you recommend Iâm sold!
Yeah, I mean I don't have to review to know it will be good.
I love them too, nice review đ

When I need more sponge filters I am ordering that filter because your review of the product, love aquarium coop also!!!!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Wish I could order one to be shipped to the UK. Was only looking a few days ago
Sorry
Not going to lie I've actually been curious if there was a difference between the aquarium Co-op brand Sponge Filters and the basic ones. Appreciated Mikeđ
There is for sure.
Hey Michael, new subscriber here. I love these filters too, have them in 2 of my tanks. I was hoping maybe you could review the Co-Op test strips in the future! The price on them sure is right, but are they accurate? Thanks for a great vid!
I will be!
Hello sir, what size of the tank does that 1 sponge filter work for?
Thanks.
What sponge?
Really enjoyed the video, Mike. đ They are indeed great sponge filters. Also, I use a lot of the Co-Op's coarse sponge pads in my HOB filters. That's a great product as well.
Thanks for the tips!
Awesome
Yeah I am!
Coldest Water right next to the Hottest Filter do they then cancel each other out?
LOL
I added a power head to my aquarium coop sponge in my overstocked mystery snail tank and my god the detritus It sucks up is crazy. I rinse and squeeze vigorously in used tank water, including rubbing surface stuff off. This could crash my sponge? That doesnât make sense?
So, if you are too rough, you "could" kill some BB and that could affect your cycle.
Is one of these sponge filter be enough for a 40 gallon breeder with 10 panda cory?
Yup
That was the Coldest Cupment Ever!
Um, OK.
@@MichaelsFishRoom
Nice Thermos Cup
GREAT VIDEO
Would the coarse sponge work ok with cherry shrimp?
Peace âïž
Yes it will
I am slowly replacing my cheap Amazon sponge filters. I like my Co-op sponges.
Nice!
I think the pores are to large so unless your filter is completely full as soon as you pull it out to clean it all the gunk comes out. I do like the green though, it does hide algae well, only bough one but I wonât be buying another one due to the pore size. You could put a fish bag in the water and bag the filter under water but I donât want to be doing that with. 15+ tanks. It does what it supposed to do. House beneficial bacteria and collect some of the waste.
Just leave the air plugged in and be carefull.
Michael I'm glad to see I'm not the only one testing the max on time between filter cleanings. I like to tell myself I'm doing research, right? Closed captioning told me you do a "fission cycle", do your neighbors know there's a nuclear reactor in the area?!
Lol
I'm going to be getting two of the medium ones for my 20g long that I'm going to be starting. I notice though, half way through the video of your tank shelf with the cinder blocks. Is there any way that you could reinforce it? Just curious,I just thought it was interesting. Good video, glad I clicked. I haven't been able to find any good videos of long term use of aquarium co op's sponges.
No need to reinforce, why?
@@MichaelsFishRoom Just was curious is all. No hard feelings. đ It made me nervous honestly.
@Jennifer Millsaps to be honest,I haven't gotten them yet. I'm currently in the process of converting my tank to a Cory only tank. Once I get the fish out,I will be putting the sponges in. I'm going to heavily plant it,so over time I can have no filters. I want to have a Corry tank.
I really want some aquarium coop sponge filters, but unfortunately they donât ship to Australia đŠđș yet đ„ș
Sorry
I love my Co-op sponge filters. I just squeeze the heck out of them in tank water as i change it. Sure, i might have some "floaters" when it goes back into the tank, but this method seems to work just fine. My fish like it too-they told me! hahah... and the shrimp find the sponge filter a great grazing ground. I guess they eat poop!
Have a great day!
If it works for you, it is right for you!
Now I will say that that Co-op course sponge filter is a great sponge filter but so are the hydro course sponge filters and also pondmaster course sponge filters matter fact I put my pond Master sponge filters all my hang on the back Marineland and it takes a very long time for them to clog up so I think it's according to the kind of coarseness that the filter have like fine sponge filters clog faster but has in a massive amount of biological filtration in it course takes longer but in my opinion don't have as much biological but still does very well
The thing about the BB is, it will only grow to the size of the food source, so there is a good possibility that the fine sponge filters are not using all the space for BB.
Aquarium coop water sprite saved the hobby for me
How?

Hey do your flowerhorns nibble on the sponge filters?
Not that I have ever seen, do yours?
@@MichaelsFishRoom no I am setting a tank up for one, and the thought crossed my mind, trying to decide between a box or sponge filter.
Wait, we're meant to clean sponge filters??
I have to remind myself about that.
Too bad they don't ship them to Mexico City where I happen to be watching you from! I have to make do with the Hydro Pro sponges, still awesome products by the way! đ

What about a Coca-cola Light? or even better, a shot of Jim Beam!

Nice
Can't get one UK. Using a 380 instead. âčïž
Sorry
It's a damn sponge filter...
And your point is what?
Umm have the filter didn't see it filtering small particles because of larger pores and also the air tube idea isn't that great.
This is made for aquarium keepers as a whole, meaning most people arenât looking for a pain in the ass âfineâ sponge filter that you have to clean out constantly. In my experience the fine sponges were inconvenient, they also turn into a brick eventually đ§±
What are tube idea?
are you sure pressure will kill bacteria?
Yup
Why do all other sponge filter manufacturers use fine instead of coarse ?
Maybe it is cheaper?
Beverage in hand
And what would that be?
@@MichaelsFishRoom Watermelon Arizona đ
The best way to clean sponges is to whack or throw them against a wall. Make sure to wear an apron or a rain coat because you're going to get stuff all over you.
LOL...not for me.
Hands down the best sponge filter on the market. Aquarium Co-Op is amazing
Totally agree!
I like the ability to put an airstone in them, but i do NOT like the course sponge. Simply bump the thing and it releases all of itâs contents:(
Also, i cannot use them in my fry tanks as small fry swim into the sponge and get stuck and die. I purchased 16 of various sizes so i dont want to stop using them, but i had to order more fine sponge filters to replace several.
What kind of fry?
@@MichaelsFishRoom I lost probably a couple dozen Electric Blue Acara fry. Those suckers would dive right in there and couldnât get out.
Maybe turn down the air a little? I have them in all my breeding tanks and donât have an issue with pleco or guppy fry.
@@MichaelsFishRoom when theyâre real tiny they have no problem. Itâs once they get about the same size as the pores themselves and they are chasing a baby brine shrimp or just picking at the filter looking for food they will pretty aggressively dive down in there and just simply could not reverse course. I donât think it was the flow at all. I had to actually rescue a few of them with tweezers and they were stuck pretty tightly. I felt like a hero LOL but some of them I could not even free without hurting them. I support aquarium co-op and really dig Coryâs business mind and support him and purchase other things from him, I just wish he had a fine sponge option for these filters.
Thanks for your suggestions though:)
This and the color are my only complaints. (I wish a black base and clear tube was an option). I havent had fry issues but id love for coop to sell a fine sponge option to help polish the water a bit. I noticed when I went from a fien sponge to a coarser one that the water tends to have more particles floating around. In my 55gal id love to be able to keep one coarse sponge and one fine in the tank.
What fine sponges did you buy to use on yours?
60 for free............gotta love them.
Actually, if it didnât love them, I would say it.
Drinkinâ da Dew.
Dr. Pepper is better.
@@MichaelsFishRoom Donât you wanna be a Pepper too?

Brah!
Do you ship fish to Hawaii ?
Yup
You do realise you can stack a couple on top of each other? Extend the air line down. Cleaning one at a time is an option.
I didn't no, but now I do.
I have several small and medium. I would say they do work well. If you are more on the anal side, pardon my French, my advice would be to let them be without cleaning once a week. They really donât need cleaned once a week. I do clean my other sponges once a week. Side note, I was cleaning my ACs once a week. Also not necessary.
LOL...OCD much?
My radical idea: as I add more tanks to the garage, Iâm moving away from canisters and HOB and looking at sponge filters. I donât normally like the Aq Co-Op sponges; BUT, I may have a solution for my needs. Air driven Co-Op sponge for biological and a powerhead driven sponge with high PPI for mechanical. I like to separate the two anyway and this gives me redundancy. Just thought Iâd share.
Green tea and enjoying my last two weeks working from home. 109 degrees this ThursdayâŠ. Only 99 todayâŠ
97F here plus a little humidity...... sounds like a good idea, thanks for sharing.
Did you notice the quality of the plastic? I was pretty surprised at how flimsy and cheap quality it is. Especially since they claim to be only top quality for everything. All my other cheap generic china sponge filters still have nice quality rigid plastic cores. Aquarium Co-op's rank last there. But it's a sponge filter and it serves its purpose so it's still good. What really makes a co-op coarse sponge filter better than any other coarse sponge filter? Nothing other than brand bias, that's the unbiased answer.
Do those generic sponge have the ability to put an air stone in it and change the flow? If not then that is a difference.
Jeff, I don't think the plastic is any cheaper than any other filter I have tested.

I canât watch your video because you have your aquariums stacked up on loose bricks?!
Sucks for you.
In order to make more money from your sponsors your supposed to go in depth and make a mildly convincing promotion on why we should buy the cup. Thatâs how you make your money. Look at the googan squad videos. They actually put heart into their sponsors. HeavyD he puts heart into them. I feel like you donât put much heart into a lot of the things you talk about. I love your videos nevertheless, thatâs why I watch them. Iâve just seen too many you tubers fizzle out by not taking things too seriously. Hope this doesnât offend you.
I don't get offended, but after 6 years of YT, the only reason I would fizzle is I am tired.
I got you man. Iâd just hate to see that. Iâm gonna watch for ever even even you downgrade video quality Iâd still watch. Iâm just looking out man thatâs all
You have 43,000 subscribers. Itâs time to put more time into your videos. Reach 100,000 and youâre here to stay. Put more effort into your sponsorships. Convince us to buy something. Too be honest if you just tell me the name of something, Iâm not going to buy it. And Iâm sure a-lot of others feel the same.
And what do you suggest?
I have to disagree here.
The title says "review," not "sales pitch." I buy things based on honest feedback from consumers, not CZcams talking heads trying to "convince" me to buy things so they can get more sponsorship dollars. If I wanted a commercial I'd find one.
@@sarahwoodring5587 So you don't think I did a review?
@@MichaelsFishRoom I think you did an honest review, just as the title promised. I was disagreeing with Mr. Unsolicited Advice up there, not with your video. đ
@@sarahwoodring5587 excuse me Mrs. mybigopinionmattersmost
I was giving simple constructive criticism. He makes videos for the public to see. All criticism afterwards is to be expected. When you do a review on something you explain to the people why they should buy it. You give simple reasons even if they are short, as to why we should buy it. For example
The cup
âThis cup is my go to cup because it keeps the water cold and water hot. How long you ask? Well let me tell you about it.â And then thatâs where you would carry on with the closing for the promotion and then you go into the video. Simply saying a companyâs name and informing us that you would get a small amount of it is not a review. Regardless of your opinion.
Wow paid promotion....
