- HELLO, HI, WELCOME!!! In 2024, I'm going to try one new sport every single month as a beginner to show you that trying new things doesn't need to be so scary, and you can give everything a go at least once. This month I tried out bouldering/climbing again and I loved it so much. Are you thinking about trying it? Let me know!
Let me know if there's any sports you'd like me to try.
I'm Emily, and I've built a community of almost 100k people talking about the joys of slow running. I'm currently training for the Brighton marathon in April but I also wanted to set myself another goal for this year.

Bad idea to start with climbing lol. You'll find yourself hooked and never try anything else :)
Hahaha maybe this series will turn into a year of climbing
Came here to write this, I was hooked after my first climbing session 😂
Hahah!!
If people are inspired by this, I'll lower the barrier for entry a little more and say you really don't need chalk when you start; the holds on beginner problems simply don't need it, and your hands pick up chalk from the holds anyway, just by the process of climbing.
Ah amazing!! Good to know, thank you
@Runswithemily Well done btw :)
Thanks!! @@sideshowfrost
Love this! I climb and hate heights. Before covid/lockdowns i managed to get on quite well with grades on bouldering/top ropes but totally lost my confidence since trying to go back. I need to go back more often and videos like this really make me want to try more! Thank you!
Glad you liked the video ❤️ you should definitely get back at it!
This is a really good idea. I might steal it from you
Thank you!! Please doooo, the more the merrier 💕
Wtf you're a natural. You move better on the wall than me who has been gym climbing for like 18 months. I support this becoming a climbing channel keep it up 🤜🤛
Omg thank you!!
You did so well! Can’t wait to see what sports you’ll tackle on, might get me inspired to give some a try!
It’s a really admirable challenge on top of all the running.
Btw, wish to share where your zip up jacket is from? Such a lovely colour!
Thank you so much!!! My jacket is from Tala, I love it!
i do this challenge aswell :) jan was spinning, but i will definetly try Bouldering. Thanks for the inspiration
Oh yay that’s so fun!! Let me know what you think of bouldering!
Thanks for the vid Em. I think your rating system is clever. I’d also love to know as part of the barrier to entry the affordability of the sport :)
Ahh this is a fab idea! I’m going to add this into future episodes :)
ty.
:)
Been thinking about trying this too. Not a fan of heights either so is nice to see from your perspective. Think I would also be put off if there were a lot of other people climbing at the same time. Thanks for sharing 😊
If you can find a quiet time to go, like early morning or something that would be ideal! I always try and go when I know there will be less people. Takes the pressure off :)
I've never been a fan of heights either, but started bouldering 2,5years ago. The fear of height almost disappeared as im getting stronger and more confident. Maybe give it a shot, facing your fears in a controlled and save environment can be beneficial :)
Such great advice! You’ve just got to push yourself out your comfort zone bit by bit.
@Jakobsch1 thats reassuring to hear. Will definitely give it go :)
@Runswithemily for sure. Worse case scenario I go a couple of times, dont get into it and move on to something else :)
well done you did so well for a beginner it seems you really enjoyed yourself. The more you climb the more you will feel comfortable with your fear of hights.
In the video you said that your toes are numb if you don't wear socks you will have more room in your shoes and you will find that you will have more control cover the shoes. Plus if your feet hurt just take your shoes off whilst resting.
Thank you for the tips!! I will try no socks :)
