Flt. Lt. Rawlings & Capt. Boakye-Gyan Attend Funeral of AFRC Member Lt. Cdr. Apaloo | September 1979

    Footage of Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings and Captain Kojo Boakye-Gyan, respectively the Chairman and the Official Spokesman of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (A.F.R.C.) of Ghana, attending the funeral of Lieutenant Commander Henry Apaloo, a member of the A.F.R.C. who died in a traffic accident.
    The A.F.R.C. was the ruling junta which succeeded the Supreme Military Council led by Lt. General Frederick Akuffo after the uprising of junior members of the armed forces on June 4th 1979.
    In the purge which folowed, Lt. General Akuffo and seven other senior military officers were executed by firing squad. The condemned men included two other former Heads of State, Lt. General Akwasi Afrifa and General Ignatius Acheampong.
    The A.F.R.C. handed power to an elected civilian government headed by President Hilla Limann in September 1979.
