    This is a great camera. Fuji makes very good compact and bridge cameras.
    I have the S602 Zoom and i am using it with great joy, even in 2021, alternatively to the DSLRs.
    It still takes very goos photos for its age, even comparing with newer cameras.
    Video with this camera is good that it takes very little space comparing to the HD video of newer cameras :)
    I prefer to take photos moslty.
    Also, I like about my Fuji camera is that it works with AA batteries.

    I've had my S700 since Feb 2008. It has been a great little camera, (and I STILL haven't mastered its many functions), but it seems to be getting a little tired out. I may just try the "batteries out" trick to see if that might help. My flash won't pop up on it's own anymore either, but I attribute that to the fact that I dropped it (first time EVER!) in August, but it only fell about 2 ft into the garden soil where I was taking close-ups of flowers. Fixable?...I have no idea!

  • @magidavid
    @magidavid  Před 11 lety

    I've never had need to use the manual focus. But nice to know that it's there. Thanks for the info!

    • @cyberp0et
      @cyberp0et Před 3 lety

      Manual focus is very useful when shooting through fences or bars or when shooting from a tripod from a fixed focal length (fixed subject)

  • @magidavid
    @magidavid  Před 12 lety

    The battery trick has always fixed issues with mine. When mine has locked up in the past turning on the camera produced a few flashes from the green LED and then the camera would shut down. Removing the batteries for a LONG time corrected the issue. Take the batteries out, leave them them out for a full 24 hours, and then put them back in. If this doesn't fix the issue, then it's probably a hardware problem.

    • @cyberp0et
      @cyberp0et Před 3 lety

      If the battery leaked, it is possible that the terminals are corroded.
      Or even worse, the internals could be compromised.
      You can clean it thorrougly and eventually check the inside.

    Hi David, nice video! I like the fact that camera uses AA batteries and not something expensive and hard to find. My popup flash failed not for flashing but popping up. The spring must be displaced. It look hard to fix and too costly to send the the factory. My fix is a rubber band...works great! Any thoughts on fixing the spring other than a rubber band that doesn't look too professional. :-)

    • @magidavid
      @magidavid  Před 9 lety

      Hello Ed,
      Sorry, I don't have any ideas on fixing the flash. Though you could try painting the rubber band black, that might hide the fact that it's even there or maybe find something else that is black and stretchable like a rubber band.

      There's a firmware update for the S700 that allows higher capacity SD cards, check FunPIx's website and see if there's an update available for your camera. You might also be able to get an answer to your lens question there.

    0:54 it sure does have manual focus only it's very awkward to use it. you have to first make all the exposure settings, then go to menu and switch to manual focus, at which point the W-T slide and the bottom right knob make the focusing.

    Yes, but you need to get a digital SLR to really do more advanced photography. I do know the S700 has manual controls, but that's not something I've messed with much either. I still have my Minolta X-370, but I haven't done any photography with it in probably 10 years.

    • @magidavid
      @magidavid  Před 10 lety

      If you're using the software that cam with the camera to xfer images and footage, I recommend you stop. You can take out the card and plug it directly into your computer using a memory card reader and access the card using explorer or some other file management program. I recommend copying the files over to your computer, verify them, and then delete them from the memory card.

    • @magidavid
      @magidavid  Před 3 lety +1

      I replaced this camera a long time ago, and haven't used it in a while. So my answer is from memory only.
      The picture quality should be acceptable. The only area you might have problems is in low light.
      As fro the video, that's a different story. My camera always took bad video with lots of noise and the only thing that would help is a well light area. This isn't a good camera for video.

    • @cyberp0et
      @cyberp0et Před 3 lety

      It also deppends on the shutter speed and camera shake.
      And also at maximum zoom there can be shake.
      Normally these cameras produce great quality photos.
      First of all test in daylight and also on a tripod.

    2 Years ago I bought the Fuji S1800, but rarely use it as the older Fuji is so much more user friendly. Once in a while I take the newer Fuji out on photo ops, but the EVF doesn't give you a clear picture of the scene you're shooting, plus the camera takes longer to focus and actually take the shot. This kinda sucks when taking pictures of fast moving birds! As to repairing the older Fuji's flash, a new camera would likely be cheaper!

    My husband purchased one of these second hand at an auction some years ago. I have been extremely pleased with this camera but last year I took it to the beach and it stopped working. I may have gotten sand in it. Although I have taken it to the beach before. Anyway, my daughter's graduation is coming up. Is it worth paying to have it repaired or should I just buy a new one?

    • @cyberp0et

    One more comment...with my film cameras I was able to take pictures of scenery lit up by a full moon, the Northern Lights, the Hale Bop comet. Set the camera on a tripod and leave the lens open for 5 minutes and you have beautiful pictures of multi-coloured stars arcing across the sky! Can digital cameras do this?? I think the best photography still requires a good film camera. What do you think?

    Digital cameras are AWESOME, no doubt, but sometimes I wish I was still using my film old cameras. They were so much easier to manipulate to the scene requirements! My attempts to shoot meteor showers, stars, the full moon, with the digital camera have all resulted in dismal failure! I'm sure a much more expensive digital camera may succeed in these attempts, but I can't afford to go there! My film cameras are still the best for that sort of photography.

    • @cyberp0et
      @cyberp0et Před 3 lety

      After eight years, it is a good time to get yourself either a cheaper DSLR or an ultra-zoom camera with at least 20x zoom. Fuji cameras take really great photos.
      And they do quite well for moon photos, and fireworks.
      But for stars and meteors npt at all good.
      Best get an old DSLR and some 300mm lens.
      For night best a full frame, but those are more expensive, even older ones.
      I got myself a Canon 70D and I think that will do great as the less expensive alternative to full frame for someone who does not expect full frame quality :p
