  • In this video Greg and Erik work to shape our driveway to help with future drainage from rain and snow. The barn house is down from the sawmill and we don't want the water to drain towards it, so we are lowering the elevation and sloping it away from the barn house and out into the woods. We want to do everything we can to prevent water from coming into our future home.
Did you know we are building our barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill?! If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the slab last summer, we milled most of the lumber needed over this past winter and are now starting to prepare to put in another slab for our garage and the rest of the house.
Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from @BarnGeek . We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home.
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

We want to do everything we can to make sure water does not drain into our future home, so dirt work it is. This has to happen before getting water and electrical to the house. Not as exciting as milling lumber, but we hope you still enjoy this video! 😁

Very wise to get the elevation done correctly ahead of time. The snowmelt into the house is a very real possibility!

Definitely. We have zero interest in water coming into our brand new home! 🌧️ ❄️

Howdy y’all- doing the dirt work is just part of the build. I always enjoyed the smell of fresh dirt being moved. Eric is pretty good on the backhoe. Take care and God bless y’all

Thank you, Paul! You are right - dirt work is just part of the build and we are thankful this is being done in the spring and not the heat of summer! We (Beth and I) were just talking about the smell of the dirt this weekend- smells like organics and the earth. 😁 Yes, Erik is awesome on the backhoe! We are so thankful for his skills! Thanks so much for watching and for reminding us that dirt work is part of the build. You gotta get through it to get to it! 😊

The closer you get to finished grades the better as this allows you to check drainage before job is completed and verify that water is going where you wnat during inclimate wheather. Keeping your jobsite well organized and neat will always pay dividends and make the actual building more enjoyable for any who work on your build. Ray Stormont

For months and months you said it was a barn. No mention of it becoming a house. I have unsubscribed from your channel. I am no fan of deception.

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Před 4 měsíci +6

I am so sorry you feel this way, Thom. Trust me, we wanted it to be a barn. The plan was for it to be a barn and we were milling wood for a barn. But, where we live, having a house built/buying a house is VERY expensive. We had to make a shift and turning our barn into our house seemed like the best option for our family. We understand if you feel you need to unsubscribe. To us, it’s still a barn and we are lucky enough to get to turn it into our home. ❤️
