  • In this video, Greg shares information from the inspection on the first step in bringing electrical into our house and adds a ground rod, per the inspector's request. He is able to fill in that trench and compacts it with a jumping jack - I wonder how many times we will rent a jumping jack for this build? So far, we've rented it 3x. But, it's all a part of prepping our property for the building process.
Here is the link to the video from last year, when we planted trees on our property...it's one of our favorites!

Did you know we are building our barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill?! If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the slab last summer, we milled most of the lumber needed over this past winter and are now starting to prepare to put in another slab for our garage and the rest of the house.
Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from ‪@BarnGeek‬ We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home.
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

It seems like there’s always a lot to do to prepare for building our barn house, but taking it one step and one project at a time seems to help. Hope you enjoy these projects and this video! 😁

Nice you were able to get help from the excavator!

Yes, it made the job a lot easier and took a lot less time on my part. 😁

Making good progress. When you go to pull the wire through the conduit, be sure to pull in the correct direction, wire will exit the straight end and enter the bell end of the conduit.
    Congrats to your daughter.
    Thanks for the video

Thank you, Mike, and thanks for the tip.
So we will pull from the panel side. Thanks for watching! 😊

If you pull from the other end, the wire will catch when it tries to enter the straight end. Always want to have the wire exit the small end and enter the big tapered bell end. It is something to take into account when laying the conduit. Where will it be easier to setup the roll of wire to be pulled. Where will it be easier to do the pulling. Good luck.

Everything is coming along great. Make sure you redline drawings where those utilities lie - trust me that will make life a lot easier down the road, either when you have a line break or during construction.

Hi, KJ- That’s a good tip.
The video evidence is good but who knows how long that will be around. Thanks for watching. 😁

Put on your list that next time you rent an excavator dig out stumps. Elec. inspector is correct that you will save much by locating you service riser correctly during rough. Ray PS do not forget to remove grounding screw when installing elec. panels.

Hi, Ray, Erik and I talked it over and we are going to put the electrical panel in the garage where that conduit comes up. It’s a good compromise in not digging up all the compaction from last year yet having the conduit come up directly to the panel.
Nice to be able to make changes as you like 😁

@@ourdreaminthewoods Thx for the response. Ive been a master electrician since 1955-56. I was the youngest ever in FL as my dad had a small elec. business Journeyman at 14 and Master at 16 I am now retired and 75 years old so best advice is to follow the electrician who is working with you and knows local code. Small trenches thru compacted soil do not need recompacting and this is especially true where once under slab electric race ways coud be right at or level with ground or even contained in slab if thick enough. I always roughed out my homeruns and feeders right in the form tying my conduit to the rebar so it would not move during pour. Reason I mention this is you can run your home runs from panel location to where power is needed saving you much time and materials for electrical rough out. Ray Stormont

Jumping jack gets it done, but it certainly doesn’t look fun in real time.

I would advise you to not put the water line in a conduit. I used to be in water maintenance for quite a few years and we had a water leak in a subdivision that we chased for a couple of years off and on. The contractor had put it in conduit and it was leaking under the street and was following the conduit and surfacing far from the actual leak. Love watching
    your videos.

Thank you, Rich! I thought we were being fancy by putting in that 4” conduit under the power and gas lines.
It’s a 10’ foot chunk with 1 1/4” water line. It’s buried now but at least I’ll know where to look for a leak down the road. Thanks for your insight and for watching! 😁

Does a jumping jack compact better than a regular vibrator pad?

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Před 4 měsíci +2

Hi, from the way I understand it the jumping jack can compact around 8-10 inches while the plate compactor can do 4-6 inches. So you can save time by doing fewer lifts with the jumping jack- I think anyway.

Hi Greg why do you want to burn it ? why not make it into mulch and chip it
