  • In this video, Greg, Erik and Karlyn (Greg's daughter) work to get our ground level and to grade - thankfully we feel better at it this time around! The plumber is coming tomorrow and the ground needs to be ready for him and it also needs to be ready for next weekend's project - foam and rebar! Concrete is coming June 3 and we are right on track!
Kanyen, Erik's son, also stops by for a little milling project!
Did you know we are building our barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill?! If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the slab last summer, we milled most of the lumber needed over this past winter and are now starting to prepare to put in another slab for our garage and the rest of the house.
Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from ‪@BarnGeek‬ . We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home.
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

Sure feels better the second time around - feels like we know what we are doing and know what to expect from this project! 😁Happy to have this ground to grade and ready for the next step! Hope you enjoy this video - thanks for sticking with us during the dirt work! ☺

Erik is an artist with the backhoe. Having someone like that makes the rest of the work go a lot easier. Looking forward to the concrete and then starting to put bents together and raise them up. Exciting times
    Thanks for bringing us along

Hi, Mike- Erik is a master ninja on the backhoe. Very little shovel raking was needed. I can’t imagine how long it would have taken if I tried to get it to grade with the skid steer.
Starting to get a plan together for bent assembly- can’t wait! Thanks for watching! 😊

Howdy y’all- I said it before and I’ll say it again- you are so fortunate to have Eric. I kinda think maybe he’s been on a backhoe a couple times before. He’s amazing. It’s coming along. Take care and God bless

Hi, Paul- I sing Erik’s praises all the time. This project wouldn’t be possible without him! 😊

It's so interesting that you said that you are pouring on two inches of foam. We had a concrete guy who worked with us and poured a slab next to our house that was all broken from the first pour. And I suggested that we poured on two inches of foam. That winter the slab never lifted it's been awesome. I hope your's works out as well.

The foam was originally my dad’s idea- “I wouldn’t pour a slab without putting 2” of foam under it.” Gotta listen to your dad. 😁 Thanks for watching!

We’ve definitely had some wind this spring… it’s never fun when it gets in the way of working/filming! 🤣
