  • The month of August is known as the last month of summer.
For the Black community, it’s a month about liberation and self-determination. On Aug. 21, 1971, Black Panther member George Jackson tried to escape from the San Quentin State Prison. When he was 18 years old in 1961, he was sentenced to one year to life for stealing $70 from a gas station.
While behind bars, Jackson was on his best behavior, as he was appointed a "field marshal" by the Oakland chapter of the Black Panther Party. He recruited other incarcerated people, organized sit-ins against segregated cafeterias and taught martial arts.
Ever since 1979, Black August has been commemorated to remember George Jackson, as well as to honor all political prisoners and celebrate Black resistance across America.
Monifa Bandele, member of the Policy Table Leadership Team at the Movement for Black Lives, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to talk about the Black August commemoration.
All this and more on “Black News Tonight.”

The real Black History Month. I've read Soledad Brothers (while in Soledad). I wish someone would bring back the Real Black Panthers. Those brothers and sisters did so much good. I just watched 'Judas and the Black Messiah'. I couldn't get through it. It was so watered down and whitewashed that it was not tolerable to someone who read the writings mentioned in this interview and LIVED through the times of real and legitimate fights for freedom. The struggle continues. Thank you for visiting this topic. Black Power!!!!!

In the prison labor camps across NYS, the Prisoners, especially those in the Maximum Security Facilities, Honor the Legacy and Memory of the Revolutionary by taking a 'tray in the prison messhall', refuse the food and sit without talking. This was also done to concretize the SACRIFICES the Brothers made during the Attica REBELLIONS of '71.

The word “struggle” has negative connotations. Resistance vibrates differently What do you think?

Yeah, why not! Clinton, Bush, and Bill Gate are free and celebrated by the media. They are not good ppl too. Bill Cosby has paid for his "sins", he is more than that however.
