  • Welcome to “Black News Tonight” hosted by Marc Lamont Hill.
Coming up, Democratic senator Joe Manchin said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he is against changing the Senate rules to make voting rights legislation unsusceptible to the filibuster.
A filibuster in the Senate is used to delay or block legislation and requires at least 60 votes to end one. Currently, the Senate Chamber is currently in a 50-50 split among Democrats and Republicans. It means that at least 10 Republicans must vote for a bill in order for it to pass and end the filibuster.
BNC contributor Tezlyn Figaro joins Hill on “Black News Tonight” to talk about the filibuster and voting rights legislation.

Political power only gives the politician power; this is true no matter the party. If you are looking to the elected to fix your issues then your issues will only become more difficult. Again, this goes for all people.

The question here… why don’t Progressive Senators follow Manchin’s lead and filibuster the infrastructure bill or any other bill until Voting Rights legislation passes.
The Democratic Party would be put in a very interesting place…

Joe Manchin is a nice guy. The problem is that the nice guy is getting disrespected, insulted, and bullied by the bad guy, which is the GOP.

Bipartisanism means nothing compared to doing right in one's heart for right. I don't and will never compromise what God and/or my heart tells me is right in all integrity for the good of all men because of what men of contrary opinions hold to. Mine is not firstly to try to work with opposing views but to firstly line up with what I believe is right in God's or my hearts eyes and take that stand. Joe Manchin is too involved with men in principle and perspective and not with God or his heart. Jesus was not diplomatic in his faith he was uncompromising, certain and sure of His principles, ideology, perspective, direction, values, standards and completely established, rooted in grounded in 1 Lord, 1faith and 1 baptism, (Ephesians 4:5) and He is humanity's greatest example. Joe Manchin will never find the agreement in what he believes is right in men first, that is not man's first assignment and purpose in creation. Our greatest assignment is to seek TRUTH and what's RIGHT with God and/or our hearts and make an UNCONDITIONAL stand. Jesus did this with unconditional love and I for one stand with Him from that premise. This is where I believe Joe Manchin should START in establishing his STAND AMEN!

Didn't the Old Testament write about pandemics?

The Old Testament talked about clean animals and unclean animals. The most high knew unclean animals could spark a pandemic. But those commandments were not given to the Moabites.
