I might consider not pirating EU4 if the complete collection was 75% off... Paying upwards of £100 for the full game is ridiculous.
Good luck with your thesis!

srsly what happened to reman?
@@AlzaboHD wait like actual brother ?
@@Roland____ well, it's not really obvious if you don't listen very carefully, I pretty much had a hunch that they must be somehow related to each other.
Damn, bro. Didn’t realize how many ducats I could get from trade until I tried establishing colonies as the OPM of Munster. I made it the most developed city in the world to be wealthy enough to establish them. I colonized the mostly unclaimed region of Colombia and the western coast of North America. These colonies seemed untenable at first, but then I realized that I could use my fleet to protect trade and use merchants to collect from trade nodes outside my home node. I also grabbed the Ivory Coast because I heard you can’t grow wealthy off of trade without them. Unfortunately I don’t want to continue the save game as I got boggled down into a war with Great Britain, due to them wanting valuable provinces I had. Regardless, thank you Alzabo, for publishing this video and recommending different ways to play the game for better results.
yeah. the ivory coast is important. with it, you can get 100+ ducats of trade income.
AdrianAtGaming Can you give me a list of regions in eu4 by trade profit, from largest to smallest, or post a link to one, please? You’ve piqued my curiosity.
4lan there are a few nodes that don’t steer to any trade node. Which basically makes them extremely rich and if you make one your main trade node, it will become very difficult for others to compete with you on that trade node because they can only collect which gives them a penalty if it isn’t their main trade node
Oh no, Ironside Is spreading everywhere!!!
A really helpful tip for culture conversion is; when you have several cultures of the same foreign culture group, embrace the largest of that foreign culture group and then convert the others to that embraced one. Going between cultures in the same culture group is much cheaper than going from a foreign culture to your home culture.
Absolutism and it's benefits are not locked behind Mandate of Heaven, the age bonuses are though. Also I would argue that the revolution disaster is also quite useful.
Thanks for the correction! Only the splendor abilities and golden ages are locked then? Good guy paradox with the pleasant surprise!
@@AlzaboHD Absolutism is part of the Art of War DLC :)
@@yuriportela8543
No it isnt. I dont have Art of war but I have absolutism and I am pretty sure it was in the base game.
@@BeWe1510 Yeah you are correct. my bad, i must have confused it with the revolution mechanics.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand originally it was locked behind Mandate of Heaven since it added ages in the first place. Prior to some patch, instead of absolutism there was an absolute monarchy government form. But some update added ages and absolutism to the base game.
@AlzaboHD, I would love a PU guide video, I have seen many but they always seem to gloss over or miss one or 2 things, it would be nice to see a full video that has everything in one place and I think you could do this.
Please, I only want to get random PU's on people while not playing Austria or Castile.
I am with you. PU's are probably the weakest part of my game right now and I could use a detailed Alzabo guide for some help.

A trade guide would be fantastic!
I appreciate your tips and also the fact that you sound weirdly similar to the star wars theories guy
Doing my thesis as well. Solidarity.
An in-depth look at trading would be a great idea. As it would help players understand the mechanic better and help with gaining ducats.
1:30 There's something you missed here. You can also find trade goods using the F key. There's probably more things you can find also, like terrain types, but I haven't searched for anything outside of provinces/areas and trade goods yet.
Good video! I would be interested in a more advanced tips n tricks video as well if you have something to share
It will definitely come out! I'm currently researching the most obscure strategies that players might not know about. More well known advanced strategies will include how to obtain the Burgundian inheritance and how to destroy Ming's mandate (this mechanic will change with the next free DLC).
I would love to see a video on trade and personal unions. I think I know how trade works now, but I have no idea on how to get a personal union on someone. In one of my games, I got a message saying one of my people was next in line for the throne, but no PU thing ever happened. Also, I'm a new player, and I love your videos, they're really helpful.
A PU video would be nice. I’ve never really understood how to make those happen intentionally.
While not an in-depth answer, this is not a video and there's a bunch of stuff left either unexplained or deliberately false to keep this simple, here's a few tips when going for a PU.
1. Get the same ruling dynasty as your target. This can be accomplished by marrying them, and either having their king die without an heir while you're the strongest (for the purposes of PU mechanics) nation they've royally married, or having your ruler die without an heir while your target country is the strongest nation (for PUs) that you have a marriage with. This is easier to pull off, as you can simply kill your heirs for 50 prestige when your ruler starts to get old to force yourself to adopt the ruling dynasty of a different nation. In case you would be put under a PU yourself instead of getting a different ruling family, you can simply go to war to keep yourself from getting PU'd.
2a. Pray their ruler dies without an heir while they're not at war and they don't have a PU of their own while you're the strongest nation (for the purposes of PUs) with the same ruling dynasty that they've royally married.
2b. Claim their throne and pray their ruler dies without an heir while they're not at war and they don't have a PU of their own and you've royally married them.
2c. Claim their throne and declare a restoration of the union war on them before they get an heir with an average or strong claim on the throne. Proceed to win the war and enforce the union.
2aa/2ab. Very rarely you instead inherit the country outright instead of PU'ing it. Enjoy your free low-autonomy development.
3. A newborn heir ruined your plans? Welcome to the fun that are PUs. Save scumming is the bread and butter of playthroughs that have more PUs than you'd expect to see.
or
1 Be the strongest rival of a country someone else is getting a PU for. You'll get the option of contesting the PU, allowing you to declare a restoration of the union on the newly PU'd country's overlord for the PU.
or
Be a country that gets scripted PUs (for example Austria, Castille, Aragon, Poland, Brandenburg)
or
Be a country that gets restoration CB's from their mission tree (for example Aragon, Poland, England)
There's also a way to enforce PUs on anyone (at least, there used to be. Not sure if it's fixed) involving making a vassal, placing your own dynasty on their throne, forcing the target country to accept your vassal as their vassal using the age of discovery splendor ability, then claiming the vassal's throne and dowing your target country for the vassal's throne. For some reason, this allowed you to enforce PU on the target country, not just the vassal even if the target counrtry wasn't a christian monarchy. If you've ever seen a screenshot where the player had, say, the ottomans, the papal state, or Ming PU'd, this is probably how they did it.
All you videos are great! Good narrative pace, love the matter of fact style, snarky comments. Would like videos on 1) forts & buildings, 2) espionage tactics and strategy, 3) interesting unique units of countries, 3) understanding and taking advantage of terrain and weather, 4) sprite packs, 5) trade goods - which are best early, middle, and late & and how to dominate the most valuable, 5) how to interact with new world & primitives for trade but not colonization, 6) Ai basics, ai intermediate, ai advanced (i.e. what the hell is it doing and why?) 7) settings for notification as game progresses without be overwhelmed. 8) Your opinions on area of the game that need fixing, better ideas, and what are your recommendations to developers going forward. Personally, as a retired naval officer I am interested in how to strengthen naval play. As a student of history, I don’t understand why the role of jews in Europe is ignored in events, surrounding provinces are not affected by fleeing refugees, and civil unrest based on economic, and ethnic resentment within cities and provinces is ignored in the game. Keep up the great work!
I know this is a old comment but the mare nostrum dlc and the el dorado dlc are good since they add and expand on naval options. Also the knew upday coming out is going to revamp the naval system. I would look into this for help with naval options.
Trade and PUs would be amazing videos. Having 2k hours I know most of the mechanics but getting refreshers is always nice for myself. Plus not having to teach every player every MP game is nice
I always thought the succession notification icon was a trash can for some reason
Great video. One suggestion, if you ever do a video about Trade, please explain how to cut off trade going away from our home node.
Good example as Brazil controlling the whole South America, there are 2 nodes "end" nodes that we cannot control further.
One feeding ivory coast (home node) and the other south of Panama feeding the Caribbean.
Hope you understand what I mean :)

Trade tips? YES.
You can accept the particularists demand to raise autonomy at 0 absolutism and manually lower that in provinces which will give a head start on absolutism, usually up to 50 which is also a requirement for the disaster to trigger
Interesting fact about pu and vassals. Pu will count your vassals in to relative strength and vassals do the same thing but opposite. This means you can pretty much have a super big vassal and pu and still be a 1 province minor.
@AlzaboHD At 6:55 in the video, you move your cursor to suggest that the Alexandria and the Tunis node are connected in some way, when in fact that trade path goes past Tunis and to Genoa.
surely interest in more in depth guides, talk bout interesting tips
A detailed video on trade would be fabulous.
It's easily one of the least transparent elements of the game, and I've heard almost exclusively contradictory or outdated info.
Two disasters I'd add to the list of useful disasters are English Civil War and War of the Roses. Both get you rulers with good stats with minimal pain and a small prestige hit. Oliver Cromwell is especially good, as he's scripted to have the Strict trait and stats of at least 5 5 5.
something to add: rebellions tick up on day 1 of every month, but fire on day 2. So if you're looking to last minute harsh treatment them, you can pause every day 1 of every month and if they progress to 100% harsh treatment them to prevent them from spawning on day 2.
Could you maybe make a video about the war mechanics? For example I don't realy understand the traide war and sometimes I don't realy know which kind of war I should declare to get what I want. And maybe also how the battles work, I get the penalties, dice roles and moral and stuff but there seems to be more to it. I would realy appreciate it or if you or someone else could tell me where I can get infos about that. Thanks!^^
P.s. Love your videos! I learned a lot about the game becouse of you!
This video changed the way I look at KotOR. I now understand the pragmatic nature of the dark side
Thanks for the guide. Always found this game quite confusing but the guide has somewhat simplfied it. I like to watch people play EU 4. Have you ever tried playing as Ayuttaya or Khmer?
Thanks for watching! I've played as Champa and Myanmar but have yet to try Ayuttaya or Khmer in SEA. Which do you prefer?
@@AlzaboHD Well Ayuttaya because I have not really seen anyone play them before.
I feel like #8 is a safe tip, but there's much more to trade. Sometimes it's really worth to collect in your home node.
A solid trade guide would be nice.
I hope your thesis was recieved well!
What graphics / map mods do you use? Map looks really nice
Great tips! :) Few notes though;
Collecting trade in home node gives 10% increased trade income, witch is usually better than transfering from an upstream node with little control. Collecting outside of home node however is rarely beneficial.
On culture, colonizers with the golden century dlc can expel unaccepted cultures to the new world. This is very useful as it also increases the development of the colony.
So instead of genocide, they get deported
@@phantomlordmxvi yup, better for all involved, right?
@@Norwegian4life Yep
Something I always wondered, is it worth it to steer trade in nodes where all of the income is already being directed through the node by other nations? The cape node, for example, usually has half the world steering for you up to Ivory Coast.
AlzaboHD can you make a video on Zoroastrianism in ck2 and how to restore the Persia!
Step 1: buy a stupid dlc just to play as an Iranian nation, thank god Paradox stopped this after ck2.
I would live to see vids on both how to exploit PUs and control trade
Can you do one for Hearts of Iron IV please? I can pain the universe in EU4 and CK2 but can't win a single battle in HOI IV... Share your genius with us lol
Use 20w division infantry with 7 infantry and 2 artillery, and for tanks go 40w 8 mech and 12 med tanks
@Michael Hoppmann Lol how. I did that in my first game of HOI 4
@Michael Hoppmann Attacking in 1938 is silly, attack in late 39. For starters, keep the MEFO bills up so you get extra factories, build military factories and focus on the focuses that give you factories and territory (Austria, Czechoslovaquia, Memel, Yugoslavia). That's for starters. Send volunteers to Spain to get exp and expend it making your divisions better
You must use your tanks. Try to avoid attacking with your infantry, use them as a line. Have some divisions of motorized infantry and tank infantry. Use your tanks to attack, concentrate on small points to put pressure, and then encircle enemy units, the less you must fight the better. The motorized infantry should quickly move and cover the tank breakthrough to avoid them getting cut off. Once you encircle some units, maintain the encirclement until they start getting attrition, then you can use your infantry to liquidate them. Also, make sure you produce a ton of fighters to keep superiority in crucial areas.
The case with France, it's because effectively your troops are doing almost no damage. This is because the border is extremely fortified. You have to use the tanks to blow a small gap through the defence, then rush into Paris and try to encircle their units at the borders. If you manage to take Paris, France will almost inmediattly surrender.
The trick of the game is to avoid trying to do damage directly, and instead concentrating force to create encirclements to starve out enemies. Encircle units with no organization or place to escape will just die instead of retreating.
nice vid, thnks.. which map mode is this btw?
Just to be clear on the institutions tip, is the goal to make said institution spawn in your country? Or does increasing development just make the institution jump to that one province (and thus spread from there to the rest of your land)
Just here to like the video, comment and probably learn a thing or two. Don't mind me.
Thank you for your support! o7

I have a question. I made a custom nation with my surname as the dynasty. Once my king was 80y and no heirs, i forced my dynasty on a vassal(Hungary), so i can retake the dynasty back later. I couldn't get it although I royal marry only them when my other king died. Tried many ways but can't do it

Man finally, I've been waiting to chown down on this copper
How do I get high absolutism with estate influence way higher than loyalty equilibrium
Thought I accidentally swiped to an ISP video for a second there.
I feel like #7 (spreading out your AE) is a dangerous tip. At the start of the game it can usually be a good idea since even a coalition of 4 people could be deadly, so you expand to many sides and keep all of them below 50 hopefully.
Later in the game though, when you're blobbing, alternating between sides will only create a mega-coalition of the entire world against you. It might be a better idea to completely annihilate a single culture/religion before focusing on another, since this keep the coalition sizes manageable, and often they won't even form since they would be too weak. Just my opinion though.
I found that a great tip for #6 (preventing coalitions) is always allying the biggest nation in the area where you intend to expand to. Your allies take significantly less AE than other nations, so it's easy to keep a really big nation out of your coalitions while you slaughter their brethren. When they finally get mad about it and break the alliance, it's too late and they're pretty much alone.
by the way here's a military tip: build to max width (you can see it in the military tab) and use cannons if you can afford them. Oh and also as long as you dont play the commonwealth cavalry is not worth it
is there a setting where the game pauses when I get an event or a pop up that requires decision?
What Map Mod/Graphics Mod is he using? It looks really good
Can you please make a video about revolutions?
This is a great idea. Thanks!
“EU4 is just a glorified map staring simulator”

Regarding the institutions. Do you know if there's any ranking in the game, which decides who gets the center of inst? Because with Ryukyu I have managed to get all the conditions for getting Colonialism in Settsu, but I never got it. I reloaded like twenty times and always an Iberian nation gets it (mostly Coimbra or Sevilla). Do I have to discover more provinces or get some colonies?
I don't believe there are any rankings. Any nation that has fulfilled the prequisites which are exploring at least one province in the Americas (off the top of my head, might be more) is eligible. Since Portugal, Castile, England and sometimes France or others take exploration you will be less likely than them to obtain it. It's certainly possible to grab the institution but you have to get really lucky. For the Asian nations make sure to explore the coast (land tiles) and not just the ocean tiles. Are you exploring Alaska?
@@AlzaboHD yes I did discover Alaska, and I have all the green ticks. so I should be eligible for the center, but, as I wrote, I didn't get it. :(
