HUGE Communal Tarantula Enclosure Neoholothele incei
VloĆŸit

- Not everyone thinks Neoholothele incei (Trinidad Olive) is a communal tarantula, but after my podcast with Dr. Linda Rayor from Cornell University Entomology Department, it seems they actually do very well in a communal enclosure when kept properly. Linda was generous enough to send me some Trinidad Olive Tarantulas from a few of her 12 Communal Enclosures for me to set up and try keeping the communally myself. This is my How To Guide on building a BIOACTIVE Communal Enclosure. So watch me set up a Neoholothele incei communal based of Dr. Rayor's suggestions and we will begin the journey of keeping this species of tarantula in a communal setup!

How would one go about feeding a communal. Between them hiding and their shear number (15 in this case) how can you make sure they all get fed? Especially when there are many places for them to hide?
Hey you can call that plant the pink wandering dude instead.
Is there an update for this communal?
Good to see this video. I just want to be clear that I collected the Neoholothele incei from 2 or 3 different colonies and put them together in the containers I sent to Richard. I've mixed and matched my incei from different groups as I've expanded or contracted into new cages. I sent 15 animals and they all arrived safely. I've had the incei in groups since late 1990's.
Have you experienced much cannibalism with this species?
@@leobajs5457 probably so, if he didn't answer.
@@eyeseayew189 did you even watch the video⊠sheâs a woman đ€ŠđŒ with a PHD in entomology đ€ŠđŒ with a focus on communal spiders đ€ŠđŒ
@@fantamaplesyrup1674 it's a typo, calm your hippie self down. Bet you felt good about that, huh? You got me so so good.
DR. ..thank you for that kindness , i love the enclosure you req. and the plants added .
Well.. That fact that she put 15 Ts in only 2 cups, and you didn't find a single dead carcus shows me that they will be fine âș
Wow, the size difference between some of them is crazy! Now we know who steals all the feeders ;-)
I love how just pushing some moss into a few cracks/crevices makes the enclosure suddenly look grown in and natural. Beautiful! đ Hope the communal goes well!
Not spider related, but I do believe the first set of plants you put in there is actually a heart leaf philo. Probably wonât make much of a difference but their care is a tad different than a pothos. đ„°
Thanks!
That enclosure set up is gorgeous.
WOW!
Excited to see ensuing updates.
Me too!
Any updates since a year ago?I just start a communal I got in a trade. I have 3 gold and 9 normal from same egg sack. They are about an inch.
I remember getting my first avic. Versicolor completely by accident, the pet store had labeled avic. Avicularia (I had only had one brachypelma at the time) so I ended up getting one of the best tarantulas for $20
bound to happen when most breeders are producing dozens of species that all look basically identical a babies đ my "n. chromatus" grew up into a Brazilian blonde and I ain't even mad... gorgeous spiders!
Another fantastic production!!
Thank you!
That's very cool. I look forward to seeing how this goes. The interview with Dr Rayor was awesome!
Please keep us updated on this one, I badly want a communal but I'm not sure if OW tarantulas are in my future or not. (Trouble isn't me being afraid of being bit and is complicated enough that the bite reports for them I've found don't have enough information.)
I think making this bioactive was a really smart choice, keeping the trash down can only improve the situation for the Ts. On the botany end I've always had the best luck with odds and ends substrates appropriately mixed, and the variety of textures might be helpful for the spiders? Also I've seen tradescantias called 'Inchplant' as a widely recognized common name that is significantly less Yikes. Seems to be intuitive enough and its been called that in the past.
Really excited to see how it goes, good luck! (Also interested to see if both color forms keep presenting in your population over time or if one will win out.)
Hey Richard, another brilliant vid and set up. Hope it goes well for you. Best wishes from across the pond, Andy.
Your enclosure turned out nice. Can't wait to see how it goes on your update sometime.
GOD BLESS đ·đđ·đđ·đ
You have NO CLUE how long it's been since I've seen someone else that owns a Social D shirt. I love your channel and your one of my main sources for information!!!
Iâve been so anxious to see this video. What a beautiful enclosure you built. Your photography is just A-#1.
Really awesome enclosure! Loved when you revealed the big one next to the little baby! The picture you got was perfect!
This was awesome! I'll be looking forward to updates on these guys.
This is awesomeđ„đ„đ„

I can't wait to hear how this goes!!! Good luckđ€đ€đ€đđđ
The enclosure looks awesome. Have a lot of fun with your new spiders!
Beautiful enclosure , best of luck on the communal set up đđđ
That's awesome I can't wait for some updates about the setup in the future :D
Wow!! Thatâs one of the best looking enclosures set ups Iâve seen. I love Incei. One I had matured out male and I sent him off to continue his bloodlines. Lol. I really hope the communal works for you. Great vid as well.
Wow, thanks!
Very pretty spider! You did a great job with the enclosure!
Love the enclosure and looking forward to see how they thrive in there! đžđ·
âAnd Sand for the textureâ.
Hopefully they live peacefully together like a big family. Great video again keep up the good work
Bwahahaha that sneaky little T over the shoulder and that leap! Hilarious!
Man I need to work on all my enclosures, they are so drab but one
Omg I love what u did to the enclosure. And the spiders beautiful hope works out for you
Brilliant video Richard, fantastic set up, should make for an awesome communal, can't wait for the updates.
Thanks đ
The shirt game is crazy as always my dude!
Currently rearing one of these. It's an awesome tarantula. Fascinated by this.
Dude! Do you have a mic in my house!? I was just talking about communal species with my husband who asked if there were any and BOOM here you go! Great content as always. Beautiful setup
Thats so badass she sent you those! đ€
Its about time ive seen a you tuber mention my favorite enclosure plant. Wandering Jew. Been using that for over 20 years . Great colors and durable ! I also use several different Ivys which come in many sizes and shades of greens and yellows. My metallica looks great with his colors with the wandering jew and english ivys
Good luck with your experiment.
Great video as always Richard! Also love the T-shirt! I have 3 nirvana shirts đ
Great video, Richard. Will give me good ideas as my nhandu chromatus grows from a sling into its full size. I know they burry, but some nice pieces would look good in the enclosure
Absolutely superb! Iâve always wanted to keep incei but wasnât sure about the communal thing. Let us know how it goesđ
Crazy cool!!!
Richard!!
How are you man? BANGER as always!
Did I watch this during lunch at school? Well yes I did. Your channelâs awesome dude, I almost canât describe it at this point!
Take care Richard!
Thanks Noah!
@@tarantulacollective Ay no problem Richard!đđ đ·đ

Thanks and welcome
Hey richard can you do a video on maybe the top 10 or a setup video on fossorial tarantulas. Love the channel keep it up.
Nice video
Just picked up my first T over the weekend. Got an Arizona blonde and immediately fell in love. Everything about these creatures is so fascinating and I can see myself getting super deep into this hobbyđ
Yea beware it is easy to wander down this rabbit hole lmao
@@DG-iw3yw whyâd you even click on the video then? This whole channel revolves around a hobby of tarantula keeping
She is awesome btw I absolutely loved that podcast she was hella awesome
The fact only one got mildly out of control shows your experience. Im anxious that I gotta rehouse just 3 a gooty sapphire a tazinian chestnut and a GBB
Great enclosure setup! Where do you get your skulls? Do you sell them?
Nice tee and nice t's. In Utero was the first CD I bought aged 11.
Awesome â€ïžđ
Love itđ€© I just bought a 0.01 Neoholothele incei last week. I still think it's kinda tricky too communal spiders but its a dream of mine to have a communalđ
Gorgeous spiders, gorgeous enclosure, gorgeous video!!!
Can you tell what plants you used.. i know you said, but my plant knowlege is very very basic so it would help me out if you could write it down for međ€Ł
Do you by any chance have anything on H,macs? And so you know i really appreciate your videos , you do help alot
Love your hat! WV here
I never knew these could be kept communally!!
Iâll vouch for you Richard since I also saw the N. incei communal at Fear Not, during the meetup. I commend you on undertaking the challenge of keeping this species together. Between Fear Not and Dr. Rayor, you can take comfort in not being a guinea pig. My fascination at Fear Not, was their H. gigas communal. I did take Tanya aside to discuss that setup. I love some H. gigas, and have acquired 5 sub-adults for something special. They are being kept separately now to grow them up and keep them uniform size, if I can. Of course itâs hard because I never see them out. I have 3x M. balfouri slings as well, and Iâm sure they would make an adorable side project far down the road.
I had a close friend that kept Balforri and Metallica together in a 120 long for many years, and rarely had an issue.
When he was murdered by a drunk driver, I was the one that took possession of the pets. I still keep them together except that I had a enclosure built for them.
I checked on them all the time, and have never had an issue either.
I would venture to say that given enough space, the possibility of keeping them together could be successful.
I've researched it myself, and so far all I've found is that I have a VERY unique situation. đ
Richard I was looking to meet you at the Invertebrate show in Bedford last Sunday but I didnât see you anywhere. Are you gonna come to the next Invertebrate show in Brighton 24 October 2021?
Cool video and stunning tarantulas. as I'm commenting this a tiny spider is crawling onto my hand.
Iâve got a egg sac maybe Iâll try one too , fantastic T-shirt btw.
Looks freakin đ
Enclosure looks great buddy
Iâd swapped out the exo terra background covered it like the sides
Awesome t shirt my little boys middle name is cobain lol
Great vid as always dude đ€đ»đ€đ»đ€đ»
i'm vietnamese but i love watching your videos
Bro đŻ
So how do you go about feeding a communal, I'm presuming throw in a selection of sizes. Awesome video by the way.
I have a large collection of Tâs but I donât have a communal yet, I need to get on that!
Can you post an update on this, please! I've been interested in communal tarantulas since I first heard about this. Following very closely...
my 5yo is banging his head to the music playing while you plant the tank đ€Ł
Do you have an update on these guys? I just got one of them, but a communal would be awesome.
My single female is just nuts!!! I catch her at night running laps around her enclosure and then just darts into the substrate and is gone in an instant. By the time I see and want to film it she is gone. I call her NASCAR. She is fast and crazy. Kind of like the one that went "YEET!" off your shoulder LOL. Bonkers, just bonkers. She is almost ready for a molt so she has slowed down a bit. I might have to rehouse her into a more semi-arboreal enclosure. I threw in a bunch of fake plants and she has webbed them all down to the surface. Going to use more bark and sticks with the future build. This species is fun and nuts!
I have 5 N. incei but are all kept separately, 1 is confirmed adult female and I also have confirmed juvenile male so I hope to breed them in the future and might try an N. incei communal with some of the slings, I will definitely follow all the advice from both of you
Whatâs your camera lineup and what program do you color grade with? You get crisp shots and I like the colors of your videos/photos! Not sure if thatâs due to your post processing or your lighting.
I have a video where I go over the cameras and lenses I use you can watch here: czcams.com/video/Tk0SFQ9ue9g/video.html
I edit in Adobe premiere pro and do some color grading to try and make it look polished. But lighting is very important as well.
We you have a update on this one. I love to see how it turned out
Like I commented before, she is an awesome lady
Nice
Not sure which was cooler, the new set up or the Nirvana shirt. đđŒ
I started a n incie gold communal and set up 5 other communals for friends all n incie gold and got absolutely hammerd with negative comments on the fb groups and all communals are doing fine been about 2 months
Your enclosures look like art work, looks complicated, they living good
hhahahaha that's so funny how much it sounded like a drug dealer with the good stuff. "You want Incei's ? I got enough enough to populate the entire US. You want Incei's you just let me know". hahahahaha. This is awesome though in all seriousness. It was really great getting to hear the information straight from her experience and going on an adventure on your own to see how it unfolds.
A forever know as a petko skull hahahaha
Man I love T s that one sneaking up by ur hand
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Question, since you mentioned it here.
Are BioActives good for tarantulas? Do the isopods and springtails not harm the spider when molting? I'm also sure it has to be with certain species being that most (of mine at least) are all pretty arid.
Hi Richard. Can you please make a care & husbandry video for H. Maculata? I just got this H. Mac and I'm asking my fellow keepers here in the Philippines but I'm still not satisfied. I also started keeping tarantulas because of you âșïž Hope you notice this comment
Thatâs a really nice display tank. A little sand for texture huh? ;-P
I read this as "incel" the first time! It seemed inappropriate for this site, but gathering them all together to be monitored in one place would be a good idea!
Well I just got a N. Incei as a âfreebieâ not that long agoâŠ. Interesting that they could be a community. Hope it goes well, and if it does, I may have to try it as well.
How is this communal going? Can you make a video update?
