Chris, I think it's very sweet & respectful of you to do that. It is our ways.
My first husband had the privilege to have met my Dad but he didn't respect nor followed our tradition of asking my parents for my hand in marriage.
But my 2nd & current husband didn't have the privilege to have met my Dad but went to his gravesite to ask for my hand in marriage. And he also asked my Mom.
I know that may sound too much for some, but that's how much my husband loves me and I love him even more for that gesture.
God bless you.
So happy for you Jessica. Sounds like a great man. Wish you guys the best there:)
The father was giving side glances, looks like he was thinking “this guy is older than I am”…
Something that just happens here.
....also another creepy!!!!! guy on island hopping.

I’m not worried brother. Living my best years and know how difficult life is for folks nowadays. I expect folks to not only not understand but also resent me. I get it.
Most of the province girls are very graceful, traditional, and shy. Believe it or not, most of them are still virgin. It's completely different from those city girls! I grew up in the province, never experienced night life, never wear make-up, no nail polish, just trim and cleaned. I was 27 and still a virgin when I married my American husband. He could not explain the feelings and the thoughts of why I was still a virgin of my age at that time, I simply told him... It's my gift to my husband to be... he cried and said to me that he felt like he won the lottery! We have been married for 23 years with only one child. So, if one day you want to marry a filipina, choose her or a filipina like her, and you will never regret!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you watching and commenting. Sounds like you have an absolutely blessed life. Amping
I want such wife in future , natural and not entitled.
Absolutely traversing a very narrow path, nice to see families with a sense of responsibility to the community, i.e., preventing rumors and respect for parents by seeking permission.
Yes! Love the idea really. Hey, thanks too for the super sticker. Really appreciate it
@@CarefreeChris
do you get a bigger percentage from CZcams or the buy me a coffee? I usually do the buy me a coffee route.
No worries brother. I think BMC has a better return to me but I’m easy.
I stayed with her and her parents we had such a great time. They are traditional but we are doing things upside down and it works amazing
So cool
You need a trip to the Philippines bro.
Well that was an insane ride with three on the bike.
Real happy for you that you found someone to travel with. You look happy I do hope everything works out for you. As far as asking permission it’s all about respect for the family. You found a good girl. Look forward to more travels.
Thanks a ton!
They really appreciate it and we made them comfortable that completing her college is the priority
Been there so many times I ask to meet the parents. Shows Pinay I have respect for family, tradition, culture and parents. My being proactive makes every encounter extremely positive with family and Pinay. Trust is earned by my confidence, respect and openness
Really great advice. I've done this a couple of times now too and really love the idea. I also like it as it gives me insight to the family
I’m very happy for you Chris! You deserve all the goodness and adventure.
It's pretty cool that you went to ask permission. It also shows that she has respect for her parents. 👍
Was there no serenade with your ukulele, or was that off-camera?
lol Benny. To funny brother. We did joke about serenading though
My Filipina parents approved me before I got there. I’ve helped them in many ways…..great ppl
That’s the way to do it
Good tradition, parents are in control 🎉
It was like that in the West just 25 years ago
Yeah. As a father I'm wishes this is how it was done still in the West too
Geeze man...I live here in the Philippines and I am jealous as hell Chris....living the damn life man...to my brothers in the US, sell everything you have and get over here... it's amazing. You will be cared for well, I promise. 😅
Hopefully, they'll leave their Western hangups at the airport, And remember they are guests in a culture that is different than their own.
@@tryscience Agreed when you land back in America you know you are there, way different culture here, just about mutual respect and loving-kindness

That's awesome Chris! You're blending very well with the culture
Btw, that place is in the middle of nowhere and it shows your determination to date her 😂.
She's a great girl and we're off to a good start
My Filipina fiancé was 37 when I met her. I never asked her parent’s permission. She is an independent adult.
It’s more just a heads up than asking for permission. We didn’t want gossip to get back tot he family
The only asking for permission is possibly marriage. Your only gonna break hearts when the breakup goes down.
I think it's a great idea to understand the culture as well as possible ahead of time. He's not in Kansas anymore! Oh wait, I don't think he was ever in Kansas lol
@@tryscience understand the culture of saving face.
@@cebubossman7615 Yes, saving face is very important in the Philippines.
Yeah, I’m talking with my girl right now and she’s explaining that there’s a difference between asking for permission to date / travel and asking for marriage. It’s not as common nowadays, but still a sign of respect especially if you’re traveling around the country together. Different dynamics in the provinces
I'm actually heading to cebu to visit for a planned place to retire. Staying in IT Park. Are there any places you suggest I should see or things to do?
Yes. I need to create a playlist of all my Cebu City videos. I’ve done so many. Don’t know where to start
Go to ormoc in leyte as it's only a few hours on super cat ferry. I was at IT park and not much to do except mall shopping. Go to Carbon
Market in Cebu. Leave in early morning though to avoid heat.
I've never seen a cement scooter path but it makes perfect sense. Much better than a dirt road especially when it rains.
Yeah that path was so tiny. In some parts it was less than a a foot wide

Wow, that's a tiny road! It was great catching up with you Chris and be careful out there in the province.
That road was incredible. So much fun
I love your channel you're doing a good job
Thank you so much!
Interesting video. Glad you posted this, thanks, Chris...Jim
Interesting times here brother Jim. Dating, traveling around. So incredibly beautiful and fascinating. Hope you’re good there too
How would they get the building materials back there?
I was thinking the same thing. There are several big modern houses back there too
@@CarefreeChris big job for sure!
wow Chris, that road would definitely be a rollercoaster ride. I felt like I should be raising my hands and arms during that ride. was wondering why so narrow. you're becoming more like a filipino every day. 3 on a bike, waiting for 4 or even 5, lol.
lol so much fun brother
Chris “ get off the freaking sidewalk “🎉😂. Great video thanks for the insight. ❤
I know right. That road was super tiny
A good way so parents can both side trust
Yes. Totally agree
You laughing was great as you ride that path 😂😂
lol that path was epic
3:25 As a Filipina now living in US my interpretation of dating (ligaw in Tagalog) is you are datiing with the intention of possible marriage. Unlike here in US, dating is showing interest in a woman (ilikeyou) to get to know her more and maybe progress into a relationship but necessarily a marriage in future. The "iloveu " is a sign that the dating part is progressing into a more serious relationship. So just be careful you don't want to be forced into marriage (pikot) just my opinion.
I talked about this in the video. It’s just a sign of respect for the family and doesn’t have anything to do with marriage
I also acknowledge it can be asking the daughter’s hand in marriage but WE’VE been clear in OUR intentions
Yeah. It was really about meeting the parents to avoid gossip or at least making them aware that we’re dating. Didn’t have anything to do with getting married
Yep, I asked permission as well when I first met my wife. I really had an appreciation for the fact that my wife, her family and a lot of the Pinoys uphold that tradition that is long lost in the west 🤙🏻
That is awesome!
Mine consulted her family, but it was mainly about flying her to our honeymoon in Cebu after we were married. No sex before marriage. The West used to be that way and I have witnessed a few Church of Christ couples who just
That is some ride on the narrow road. You did awesome bro.
Yes it was. Tiny road with 3 up lol. So much fun 🤪
Road?!? I see a very long sidewalk. lol I bet it did feel like a rollercoaster.
I know right
Hey Chris, my girls farm is about 20 minutes by boat from there. We are building a small piggery and our contractor knows the dad and recognized him by his picture…. Then my girl saw you yesterday walking in town. She was on a tuk tuk so couldn’t stop and say hi. Keep up the good videos!
Hey Michael. Yeah I’m back in Palompon. Sounds like we’ll be neighbors:). Please tell her to say hey if she sees me again. I love meeting folks:)
I like that you're starting to show your age.
I'm feeling my age:)
I’m 54 she is 26 no kids I’m her 1st and a deep province girl
Nice man
Wow, that's what you call, in the middle of nowhere 😅. Stay safe, healthy, and wealthy Chris ❤❤
So true. Really remote
Great skillz on the bike!
Thanks man. Was fun and I'm glad I had some miles on the bike already. Especially with 3 up.
Real gentleman 👏
Thank you
I was like OK a small road, is it after he gets off the sidewalk? 😂
lol. That road is tiny
Being filmed for CZcams is to personal and when you break up, they will all be regretting the day they saw your face
Such a wonderful prospective.
Reminds me of those down to earth Americans in my Ph childhood. Had a few classmates. Fun times.
I’m loving the culture out here
Great video man. . Island gossip happebs on all islands.
You got that right!
If there is no tsismis, you are not in the PH
I did the same thing Chris. After our first date, on the 2nd day of hanging out i said, what should we do today? She said, "we will go to my parent house" 🤣 Ahh, man it was a great experience. It shows a lot of you to put yourself in that situation willingly. Cheers from Bohol.
Amen brother
im glad i got my daughter out of the philippines.....she dont need to have the need to date foreigners my age or older
Yes. Move her to the US. So much better there for women no question. Especially Filipino. The problem there though is the culture
@@CarefreeChris im making sure she dont lose her values she already knows no dating until she is done with college....shes 20....must have been awkward asking her father to date her....im imagining it like asking my friend to date his daughter.....just wont end well....im sure her dad felt a need to say yes just because of the economic situation their in....there are still some beautiful pinays close to your age still look good....just borderline pedo to me
Good for you. Hope that works out for you both. As far as Mary Rose’s family, they couldn’t be happier for their daughter. They’ve raised a sharp girl and she’s doing incredible in life. I truly hope to be a contributor to her continued growth and development.

So adorable
You're living the life of Joe Valentino bro, enjoy life is short.
You got that right!
lucky that path was paved.
for sure
That's not exactly required anymore. I dated my wife 22 years ago in cebu and never once was it brought up.
Yeah, it’s not really requirement to ask the parents, but it was out of respect so they didn’t hear that her daughter was dating a foreigner other than from us
Hey Chris, cool you met a nice woman. Where did you meet? Meeting the family is only right and respectful. As you say, it also provides some insight. Just wondering though: does meeting the parents and asking permission to date give the expectation to the parents and her that your future intention is marriage?? This would just be my concern. Have you clarified with her and family that at this stage you are simply dating casually which may or may not lead to marriage? (Since I expect this is your desire to help get to know each other). I have no direct experience with this, but understand in the province casual dating is not necessarily the norm culturally. Good luck. David in southern Shikoku, Japan.
It would be separate conversation to ask for marriage. We were both clear that this is just dating and traveling around the country. If we both decided we wanted to get married, we would approach the family again. This was just a… “Hey I’m dating a foreigner family and I want you to know before you hear about it.” Kind of thing
Great question/ point though David and I appreciate your comment. We’ll follow-up with the family too to make sure they’re clear on several things like completing her degree.
@@CarefreeChris Great you are able to date casually and what better way to get to know each other than doing some traveling together. Glad to hear the family and her were cool with dating without any pressure about the future. We all know it is far better to take it slow. Enjoy!
wow what a ride that road or path was not wide hehehehhe . is so good to be out of the cities and in the province everyday is just a adventure ✌✌
I love being out of the city
@@MichaelHawk1936 end of may will be going to negros to dumagete from there few weeks in siquijor
Considering Chris has mentioned he has a daughter, curious if his experiences has changed how he would view a similar age gap if his daughter wanted to date an older man? Or do children get angry at their fathers for dating young?
I saw another channel where the guy was 40+ years older than his Filipina and dating younger than his own children, and they were not accepting of it at all.
That’s a great question and I have changed my way of thinking since living here. I can see the life advantages to pairing with someone significantly older early on in our lives
@@CarefreeChris thanks. It’s interesting what we learn from other cultures.
I hear you brother. I would never envision myself in the relationship I’m in now other than here. I’m learning a new life here. I’m making mistakes but all part of it. I love the person I’m becoming here. A more chill laid back guy. Someone I haven’t been since my teens. I hope you’re good there
Omg😮 you were on a paved hiking trail 🤯
I know right. The road was so small in sections.
Now you seemed to have arrived in the real Philippines after all. Is the bitsy, tiny road = stairway to cloud #7?
Love it:)
Wow...what a ride!
Yes it was!
I guess nobody living in that area owns a car, but how on earth do they get the materials they need for building a house up to their land?
I was thinking the same thing
Her dad got a $400 bottle of his favorite brand of liquor her mom got flowers.
I brought Lechon Manok :-)
That isn't a road, that's a sidewalk.
It’s hardly a sidewalk even. Parts of it were less than a foot wide.
Are you riding those narow paths in flip flops?. In motorcycles from the knee down and from the elbow out is the majority of the injuries.
It’s true. Lower legs stuff is typical and my lax stance with gear isn’t wise especially considering I spent a year recovering from an accident
The filipinos here ride in flip flops, do construction in flip flops, cut down trees with chainsaws in flip flops they are proffesionals haha. They also love riding their motorbikes with a bicycle helmet that isnt strapped. Its a right of passage for them.
It's like the American southern values in the 1850's .
Yeah. So simple here. Love the culture
As soon as I get my things sold I’m on my way. I’m envious of your life.
I hope you're able to make it out here soon
I think you'll do fine Lou if you have 250K or more and then retirement of course - it's still a long way off for me though I could leave now
@@blockaderunner I’m retired Military. I have a pension. Just have to sell my house and car.
I'm a year or two younger than you and I would rather date a woman who is 30 or 32 and then I shouldn't have to ask permission because she has already had at least a BF or two along the way.
It wasn’t really asking for permission as it was giving them a heads up. Still something to consider regardless of the age as dating a foreigner can be a big deal with many implications
Petty nice.. I've been in Philippines 7 years
Love it
Getting into the spirit of the philippines ride 3 on a single bike.

lol right
Nice ride.. roller coaster road 🛣️😅
Thank you 🤗
Don’t put her on camera if you’re not going to marry her.
Time will tell. Right now we’re both getting to know each other.
Why???
So, if it doesn’t work out, she will still have a shot at finding a good man. No sensible man wants any long term relationship with a woman who was highlighted on CZcams parading around town with a foreigner.
FFS Youd do the same in any country.
A daughter is a daughter.
Dont abuse.
Agree. A a father myself I love the idea and wish it was something that happened in the West
Great subject matter. I'm glad you're man enough to respect her culture customs. But did you have to ask for permission to shoplift the pooty too or is that assumed?
Lol

It’s a different dating experience here no question. I don’t necessarily take into account my dates finical background but that’s always been my way
