The CZ75 SP01 Phantom Gen 2 is AWESOME! Especially if the trigger is improved by putting in a 15# hammer spring and extended firing pin and matching firing pin and firing pin block springs. You end up with a very light, fairly compact, 18+1 9mm pistol, with a good DA/SA trigger and very low recoil. The main difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 is that the Gen 2 has a more advanced fiberglass type composite, instead of straight thermoplastic.

Last April, I purchased my first pistol and since that time, I have purchased 8 addition pistols. Recently, I've been hearing good thing about CZ and shot the CZ P10 this weekend. I was amazed at the accuracy and how good the trigger felt. CZ will be my next pistol, maybe the P 09 because I like the mag capacity, and I'm a lefty so the ambidextrous controls will be great.

The SP-01 Phantom is significantly cheaper when you consider the Mec-Gar CZ-75 magazines are 20-26 dollars and the P-09 mags are 45-50 dollars.

Great honest review! Appreciate your honesty here. I love the looks of the Phantom, but have a P09 and love it. I also have a SP-01 Tactical and also love that pistol. However, the grip is a tad small on the SP-01 Tactical. I really wish it used the same mags as the P09, because they are slightly wider which also makes the grip a little bigger and fits my hand better. Something no one ever mentions here. Why did CZ not use the same magazines in all of their 9mm pistols. That would have only made sense. A gross misnomer on their part. The 19 rounders in the P09 are great and you can upgrade to true CZ made 21 round mags as well. I use the 21 rounders and they run flawlessly. Back to the grip of the P09, I put talon grip tape on it and made a world of difference. Love that stuff and have that on all of my pistols. Really hard to go wrong with any CZ pistol, but I agree they hit it out of the park with the P09. Perfect range gun that I'd compete with if I had to and also a great home defense gun. Easy to point and shoot and extremely manageable. Very little felt recoil, so it is quick to get back on target. If I ever run across a Phantom, I might just buy one and give it a try as well. Its CZ, so I'm sure it will be excellent..

The Phantom is back in production and at a cheaper price. You can find them for $529 in a lot of places. I think the SP01 line of the 75 pistols are some of CZ’s best. Except the Phantom is much lighter than the original SP01.

I have the CZ p-10F, which is very comparable to the P-09 in size, weight and capacity. I know that my pistol wasn’t available at the time when this vid was made, but I think it would be a great modern comparison with these two terrific guns. The P-10F would be the striker fire representative in this size CZ.

I know this is an old video; but THANK YOU, for doing this comparison. I just bought a Phantom, and I love it. I am contemplating buying a second one; because I found one at a local shop for a ridiculously low price. I've been hearing good things about the P09; so I was debating whether or not to get one of those, instead of a second Phantom. This video was very helpful in helping my decision. Also, is the magazine release on the Phantom reversible? I'm right-handed; but I'm thinking about giving one of my Phantoms to my left-handed son, and buying a P09. That way, I can justify buying both guns.

  • @LieutenantDangleBerries

I’ve owned and carried a few different CZ’s. I’d love to pick up a reasonably priced Phantom, but I’ve only seen one in person and I live not far from CZ USA. It would be nice to have 98% of my SP-01 Shadow’s capabilities in something that’s ~30% lighter. I’m still sad they never made a Phantom with a manual safety.

Love the CZ but as long as I am in my 15rd restricted state….I am not waisting my time on any more CZs. It’s crazy because no matter the model I have(except for the P-09/P-07/P-10F) every single company even CZ themselves doesn’t have any 15rd magazines in stock. Haven’t for the last 3 years. Idk how come they aren’t jumping on this making it a priority to make 15rd magazines because a lot of states are going to go to 10-15rd max capacity magazine laws. You spend good money and get 2 stinking 10 round full size magazine. Spend $40 on a +5 base plate and spring to convert your 10rd mags to 15. Love the firearms but this lame state is causing me to miss out. My P-07 and P-09 are the only ones I’ll carry concealed. All the others are safe queens until I move because this ban isn’t going anywhere and $100 to get 3 +5 base plates? Can’t do it.
