- Commando Helicopter Force's Merlins and Wildcats have been working together, along with Apaches, in the Norwegian mountains - where the tundra and environment can be just as deadly as any potential enemy force.
The training provided on Operation Clockwork is "absolutely essential", Lieutenant Larry Lambert, 1 Lt Op Clockwork, Commando Helicopter Force, told Forces News.
"It's probably the hardest environment on earth we actually operate aircraft in. It's vital to provide the defence of the northern flank that we are tasked to do by defence," he added.

The Merlin chopper has to be my favorite of all of them, its just such a beauty to look at. 💪🇬🇧
Been there, done that and got a 'BLUE NOSE'! 846 Sqdn (Sea Kings) in 1985 I think. Brilliant!
847 same later on 2000s
They are wrapped up so nice and warm - They all look so cosy!
Amazing. Norway showing what value it adds to NATO.
I hadn't thought before now the effect drones will have on helicopters now and in the future.
❤👍

Those men on the ground should be wearing Cam whites-no excuse.
wonder why this helis are not painted off-white to match the background colour at all....
If they were there long term then maybe it would make sense.
Why? They primarily operate in a maritime climate where the current scheme works better - a helicopter is also very loud, slow and easily radar detectable so a splash of white on its fuselage won't help to conceal it..
Can we not afford to give the troops the correct camouflage for arctic warfare?
Why would anyone with common sense want to 'occupy' the land?
Hardly "extreme" going by what they're wearing and you can't even see the moisture from their breath when talking. Why aren't they wearing proper arctic gear? Lack of budget?
All that environmental damage...
I can tell by the way his coat is open it's only just below freezing, go try -40 guys. russia is cold AF.
Goed man 😂
Hardest environment? A they/them pronoun discussion?
