  • In this video, I'm talking about how colour is coming back into interior design in a big way! The fact that IKEA manufactures so many colourful products signals its desire to appeal to Gen Z and the younger market overall. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section! How do you feel about this much colour? Are there any standouts from the collections?

Oh gawd! I was married in 1974 and the vomititus colors of orange and Avacado green were gross then and they still are today somethings never change. I collected Shaker and primitive painted furniture. My three children have some pieces along with tradition things. I find my old style looks fabulous still today. My home a 200+ historic one is on house tours from time to time. It works and I’m still happy at almost 70. Love to you Nick😊

Yeah, I was married in 1975 . I’ve always hated orange in most any tint or hue, and though green is my favorite color, not avocado green. And the two colors together I found absolutely distressing! I didn’t mind the harvest gold though, and actually purchased a refrigerator in that color. I was SO relieved when 1980 brought the natural and organic, neutral colors and shades of brown and off-white.

As a late 30s woman I cringe so hard with some of the “Y2K” fashions being redone. I’ve come to the conclusion if you were around to see these styles live and die, they’re never going to come back as appealing in your eyes. Which is why I hate tribal tattoos but rather love a lot of this collection!

I am also an older Gen-X. The house we bought in 1999 came with avocado green kitchen counters. They’re still here. They need replacing, but I like them. lol The orange is ok in small amounts as decor, though I don’t currently have anything that color in my house. Harvest gold is an absolute no.
My mother had a 1950’s style pink kitchen the whole time I lived at home, and my grandparents’ house remained firmly in the 1950’s, so I didn’t live with it to now hate it. Mom did have some harvest gold small appliances, so there’s my issue with that color. lol

Back in 1965 I baby sat for a family of three rambunctious boys. One evening (while the boys were arm wrestling in their mutual bathroom over which one could brush his teeth first), I needed a toilet trip of my own. I decided my only option was to use the master bathroom. To access that toilet area, I had to walk through the master bedroom, which I hadn’t yet seen. The wall to wall carpet in the bedroom was a shag of long fibers, some turquoise blue, others chartreuse green. That color scheme and carpet type were not unusual for the era. What traumatized me was that this carpeting was not only wall to wall, it was ceiling to ceiling. The carpet covered the floor and ran up all four walls, ending at the intersections with the ceiling. I felt liked I’d been swallowed by a sea monster from a Peter Max poster. I decided that I didn’t want to see what decorating nightmare awaited in the master bathroom. I fled into the hallway and waited for my turn in the boys’ bathroom. Messy as it was, I felt much safer there.

Live long enough to see them come back twice lol Great memories and none of that is my color today,(*so not me now) but I keep up on trends for my grand kids and I love seeing things come back in style! My house is not "bright", but my sunny thoughts of this video are 😂 Thanks, Nick! So much fun watching!👍🏻

I love your videos and your humour is fabulous. You speak so quickly though that I have to have coffee before I watch them and concentrate. Even so, I frequently have to rewind to catch what you said 😉 A trait in my family too. We had to work hard to slow it down so that people could understand us

It’s funny that people complain about the Swedish pronunciation but my boyfriend who was born in Sweden and speaks Swedish fluently said that some of the product names aren’t even real Swedish words💀

I had those colors in my bedroom. I sewed curtains made from sheets. A shag rug, a bean bag chair and a Stereo turntable for my 16th birthday. I paid for everything else, because I worked after school. Does anyone remember the 20s resurgence when The Great Gatsby movie of the 70s came out, let’s bring that back.

Exactly. For those of us actually alive back then, we loved "antiques" with real wood and things made with great craftsmanship.

Oh there's definitely a 20s resurgence... But I don't like 20s furniture I like 20s clothes and that came back in the 10s and went away again

The styles from Bonnie & Clyde with Faye Dunaway & Warren Beatty were a big influence! And who can forget the looks from The Sting with Paul Newman!!

Nick is an amazing and talented designer. But honestly I could listen to him talk about peanut butter, the weather, or ancient history. He has a gift.

I LOVE, LOVE color….the bolder and brighter the better. BUT I don’t decorate with lots of bold color because I get sick of it very quickly.

nostalgia, love it, love color, it cheers me up when i look at it. The white look was way to serious, and said to me, "don't have fun, we can't make a mess."

I'm a Gen-Xer and a lot of this is perfect for my 1980s Memphis Design themed guest room. I also keep finding weird 80s stuff in the local Goodwill.
