I love me a good broken book spine! I have many many sci-fi books from my teens that are like that and it just gives me fond memories whenever I see them. It's also why I prefer paperback over hardback books. I love seeing the wear and tear and love. Also, Rocky is the best

Wait why do people get so freaked out from a broken spine? It shows that you love the book! Any of my readers paperbacks from the riordanverse are broken spines. Hardcover dust jackets look slightly worn.
