I'm a bit ignorant, but why is he always using those ear buds? I see he always wears them when playing. are those to prevent ear damage because of the loud sound of drums?
Those are in-ear monitors, they allow Josh and other drummers to hear what the rest of the band is playing, perhaps adding a metronome to set the song tempo if the drummer wishes. In this case, he is hearing and playing to the "Lane Boy" track that we've synced up to his drumming. They can also offer a level of hearing protection depending on the model.
I wonder what's going on in his head while playing the drums like this... Does he hum the melody of the song in his head to keep in time..? Does he sometimes think, 'Tsk, I didn't that hit kick drum hard enough' or 'I hit that cymbal too hard and it's clashing' or ' Oh God, I almost missed that drum'.. Or think 'Geek, my palms are sweaty'.. xD
Does he go, 'Oooh! here comes that fast part! better get hyped up!' And when he successfully finishes a song is he like, 'Yeeeeea! That was good, hope I can do it again!'

When I play the drums, generally nothing goes through me head and I don't know why. That is until I mess up. Then that's all I can think about even if it's just a tiny thing

Josh inspired me to get my own drum set and i couldn't be happier because thanks to him i found out that it is one of my favourite instruments and i'm so happy i discovered it thanks to him.Even when i'll be like 35,and i'll still be playing the drums but i'll not be so much into bands or into twenty one pilots,i'll still be grateful to him.

Right josh is saying he loves the S cymbals but he doesn't even use them? In all of the tour videos from ERS he's using the A customs and not the S series. I see other artists doing the same thing. Makes me wonder if Zildjian is asking these artists to lie through their teeth to promote the new series. Don't get me wrong Zildjian makes great cymbals and the S series to me sounds great and ill probably buy some because they are affordable but I wonder what the real situation is.
