  • The MG ZS EV has generated more messages to this channel than any other car! So, have MG built a perfect example of great value or is it cheap to buy for a good reason?

      @@ThePedro1664 sorry for the delay, never received a reply notification.
      Honestly enjoying the car, only had a couple minor issues. Rear wiper scratched the glass so they replaced both parts. The Sterring column developed a click and was replaced. The common issue I had was a BMS update (which has now been resolved) which caused it to not balance or correctly charge up.
      I had to go through winter with up to 70miles max range by the end of it, once it was patched out I've had nothing but happy motoring.
      It's also been reasonably cheap to charge, It's cost around £470 to do 12,000 miles (3.9p per mile).
      I have found it to be the perfect commuter car to go back and forth to work with the shop runs added in. My daily drive is a 45mile round trip and with the nice summer weather I can go almost 4 days between charges, IF i avoid the motorway.

    I think you're right about the MG labelling. Here in Canada back in the late seventies, early eighties, I worked at a car dealer that had the British Leyland franchise. I remember the very last MGB we sold sitting on the showroom floor, brand new, with a sheet of cardboard under the engine and gearbox so the oil dripping didn't spoil the floor.

    • @stevehazelton6540
      @stevehazelton6540 Před 4 lety +2

      Don Little I have owned four mgb roadsters and my present weekend car is an RV8. One of the issues with cars of the era especially MGs is that with lack of use the various seals and gaskets tended to dry out and weep when driven thereafter. The aftermarket items tended to be less bothersome.

    I think the MG has the “reputation” that the likes of Skoda had until 2002 with the Octavia launch, or later still the Hyundai. Nobody is laughing now. They are all brilliant cars and, I think MG will replicate their achievements.

  • @michaelsummers9579
    @michaelsummers9579 Před 4 lety +6

    I test drove the excite version yesterday. I was pleased with the external finish, gaps in panels were good & door closing matched my Mercedes for satisfying sound. Interior finish is fine. I don’t have any issues with hard plastics, this is a car designed for families, it must be durable. The drive was superb, quiet, smooth & no rattles or squeaks. The steering was a little too light for my taste but it does mean effortless driving. The car would have been better with paddles rather than the kers switch but no complaints about the regenerative braking at all, just need the brake to stop the car creeping & once stopped it enters auto hold automatically. I’m old enough to remember the first Japanese imports & the concerns that motorists had about them & even high end German cars are made in several countries these days. Final point. MG are making their own batteries & a facility will be in the UK so if the worst happens the battery wont need to be sent abroad. The decision to continue to purchase was easy for me & my needs.

    • @andrewwhaley7639
      @andrewwhaley7639 Před 4 lety +1

      Agree on the paddles, those 3 buttons (mode, kers and battery) are unnecessarily hard to find when you're driving. Regen seems a thing you're going to constantly want to adjust dependent on driving conditions i.e. low on the motorway and high around town. Overall I didn't like the instrument layout and thought the main screen was too low down. Great drive though.

    • @michaelsummers9579
      @michaelsummers9579 Před 4 lety

      Andrew Whaley I didn’t try main screen I was really focused on drive & finish. Most sat navs take a while to fire up & I noted James Coates said once running it was ok. It might be worth noting that I believe that these demo cars may be in need of the software update being applied to cars coming into country. In any case Apple car phone & Waze will do for me in the NAV department. Overall, for the money I thought it was pretty good.

    Thank you for a great review. I must rush to the defence of the old MG/Rover. We had two of the top spec 75s and the second one did 76K and neither of them had the slightest problem. The only thing that worries us about the EZS is the range. We have just returned from Brixham to South Yorkshire and our Prius did 700 miles and was filled just before we set off and once during the week and it will have been filled again today.

    • @Marknorthway
      @Marknorthway Před 4 lety +1

      With two diesel 75s on the drive, and having just put a deposit down on this EV, we'll keep the Rovers for long haul, and use this closer to home. I'm sure once we get in to the swing of things we'll get to know where charging points are and get further afield. Electric certainly feels like the future.

    Just thought this was worth a comment, i recently test drove the MG and was impressed with the quality of the car, as you say it's a very keen price. I was drawn to the MG because of the ridiculous price of the Leaf. My existing Leaf pcp ends in February, the MG dealer tells me there is 1000 MG's arriving in the UK in November followed by another 1000 in February. The dealer has taken a look at my Leaf and i'm waiting for a quote. Bear with me this gets interesting.
    So the other day i got a call from the Nissan dealership asking what my intentions were at the end of the pcp, i'm considering buying an MG went down well. After several phone calls and emails i've been offered a leaf n connecta for less than the MG, they said it's a loyalty bonus scheme and i've haven't signed the paperwork yet but somehow they have managed to come up with a set of numbers that beats the MG. So i have a Leaf n connecta on order for delivery mid November.
    I thought this was worth posting because there are probably many people in my position that are disregarding the Leaf because of the stupid list prices however i think the dealers know that to keep customers heavily discounted deals need to be on the table.

      Something similar happened to me too. They ended up offering a 40kwh Tekna for £25k but with a significant bump in my old Leaf Trade in. Only downside is lack of cooling on the Leaf battery. I’d also say at least on the Tekna that the ‘toys’ and finish in the cabin is a step up from the MG. Saying all that Nissan should be worried!

    Some bits are obviously built down to a price but a lot felt decent and it was a really nice drive.
    The size for the money, with a flat floor in the back particularly, and the opening sunroof really made it for me.
    Ideally I'd like more range but it'll only be an issue for me once in a blue moon and in a year or two we'll probably have a longer range EV in the family too.
    I can't actually get a proper insurance quote at the moment, as it's not actually listed on anyone's systems. Hopefully that will be rectified before the, likely February, delivery.

    I really really like this car for its price point. I drove it for a week in Australia and loved it; apart from some of the software niggles and satnav mistakes. As a Tesla owner, I think the MG ZS EV is value-for-money and has features that even my Model S does not have such as the blindspot indicators on the wing mirrors, great all-round visibility, heated seats, and rear window wiper. Also, the 7-year full warranty is fantastic! I consider the MG ZS EV to be an ideal second EV for me; and I also recommend it to anyone who is considering an affordable family EV.

If this car turns out to be reliable (good battery, no mechanical problems, etc), people who want to electric will definitely check this out and, thanks to the incentives, savings and, the most important, infrastructure, will have a great chance to close the deal. One thing that I've noticed when the MG ZS is parked next to other makes of cars, is that from the outside it's visibly narrower and inside the rear seat is not really suitable for 3 peeps unlike it's SUV rivals, but for 4 it has plenty of leg and headroom.

      @MikeBookham Před 4 lety +2

      Paul Goffin Agreed, however this is not really suitable for 3 adults in the rear. The lack of centre head restraint has a couple of advantages:
      1) Better rear visibility for the driver.
      2) Better for an older child sat in the middle because their head is too low to use one and therefore would need removing anyway.

    As a Tesla owner, I think this is a good and needed offering for the EV buyer. It won’t steal any sales from Tesla because they are not in the same class.
