Is it worth $7000 more?! MG ZS EV Long Range 2023 review (EV range and efficiency test)

- Once the poster child for affordable electric SUVs in Australia, the MG ZS EV now comes with a Long Range model.
It adds $7000 to the price, but it makes for a more user-friendly electric SUV with a much longer EV driving range thanks to its bigger battery pack.
The new top-spec model has 40 per cent more driving range but costs a whole lot more than the entry-level ZS EV, so is it worth the extra expenditure?
It's going to depend on what you need most out of your EV -- and whether you buy this instead of the incoming MG 4 EV (MG4), or the BYD Atto 3 (Yuan).

Would love to see tests in a country environment, driving 100km between towns without the regen braking helping. That’s more of a real word test than every test I see of EV’s driving around a city
Great informative review Matt. The only thing that dissuades into purchasing a 'full EV' is ultimately range envy; I do long drives occasionally hence why I'm looking at either the MG Phev or Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross..

I promise you you don’t need the range unless you live in the outback! 😁
It’s 100% a mindset thing, the way we’ve been conditioned to think with petrol pumps. So on the very rare time you actually do more than 3-400km in a single day, you can rely on the DC charging network which is expanding all the time.
Full EVs are superb to live with day to day.

As far as this EV SUV at $55k drive away I’d wait till one hits the used market (usually under a year) and you’ll pick one up for $35-$40k that would make it a bargain !
You reckon EVs are dumping their value that quick? I’m not so sure this will drop that kind of amount in a year. But time will tell!

Well, you can get it closer to $43k already if you negotiate it down to at the dealership on a sale and including the clean car rebate. So a demonstrator should be around $40k immediately.
ZS ev is the best for a family with 2 kids. I wish there would be a bigger 7 seater for the while family!

Nice review, if it were $10,000 less it would be the number 1 seller in its segment.
Getting 17kw/h per 100km is ok'ish you would need to larger battery option at 77kw/h to make it viable for a 7.2kW charge box as you would need that power point to be minimum 30amp on the circuit breaker.
That said I don't know if this brand can overcome the inherent issues with its owners at this price point.
Yeah, I guess it does have the very affordable entry level car at $45k driveaway? And it’s going to be all the EV SUV you really need.

I don’t have a car at the moment. I like to say that I’m “in between relationships” in that regard.

EV,s not for me recharging would be a pain and apparently they don't get flat tyres no spare. If i was to spend $45,000 on an EV it would be a hybrid. 😊

@The Right Car? If they made them around $25,000 to $30,000, they would be a good town car. But not as your only car,unless you go nowhere.
Chargings a pain? Standing there filling the tank then waiting in line at the station is way more of a hassle I reckon
@@buncha5651 in my 2021 model 2.5 years into ownership 52,260km so far. Only held up by not having the time to get out more. Two 2,200km+ road trips(one of these was 2100km just two days), many 600km+ day trips. It’s a fantastic little car very practical & having a home charger makes it simple. It’s my only car, my partner has a car that is now ev as well as we were only using the ev instead of the petrol car.

@@GlowingTube Those two are in veeery different price categories from the MG ZS, although objectively both are clearly better cars, it's more car and more money than many need, want or can afford
The problem with the MG ZS is it is ugly AF, hopefully they fix it with future update. Until then MG4 much better option.
