Barrier Surfaces of the Innate Immune System

  • The first aspect of the innate immune system we will examine is the many barrier surfaces, such as the skin, as well as the linings of the respiratory tract and digestive tract. These cells have to constantly prevent infection from the environment, so how do they do this? We've also probably heard of the microbiome, so what's that? How does it differ from area to area in the body? Let's get a closer look at this first line of defense now!

    Fairly well done video..
I gotta say one thing i've always loved about biology is how we mix things up a little with mainly leaning on latin and latinized words and phrasings, but still sometimes there's some street-cred style stuff too like the peyer's patches, islets of langerhans or hasner's valve.. it just kinda sounds funny to me..

Never ceases to amaze the master plan to encode all this elaborate and intricate structure is within each and ever cell, regardless of how much of that plan they actually take part in or how long or short its lifespan.

Thank you for another wonderful video, Dave. I have MUCH of your stuff yet to watch. But the latest series on immune systems, drugs, viruses and much more are SO needed right now. I have passed links to many of your vids to several people who NEED to watch them. I dunno if they do watch them but I tried.

Curious: my mom and I were talking about celiac disease, which one of my half-brothers has, and due to some recent tests I had at an emergency room visit, the possibility of myself having it came up. Then, she asked another of my brothers and he said that they determined that the celiac came from my step-mom's side. I wondered how they determined this. Figured it must've been some kind of genetic test, obviously. So then my mom sends me this:
"The two genes most closely linked to celiac disease are HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8. Nearly everyone who is diagnosed with celiac disease carries at least one of these two genes that they inherited from their mother or father."
This had me wondering, what kinds of studies are done to make these kinds of correlations between genes and genetic diseases?
Wasn't sure if you've done a video on this already.

Hello. I would really like some advice regarding the Covid vaccine.
I have already got the first shot from the Pfizer brand and was just informed that my second shot will be from the Moderna brand. Is this really okay? There is so much conflicting information. I already spent the majority of the day trying to figure it out. Additional, there are entire countries that does not recognized the Modern as a viable vaccine. And I just have to assume there has to be a good reason for this? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
