Having tons of celebs there gets them lots of press and more eyes on their ceremony since it looks like they're trying to establish these awards as extremely prestigious. That's my best guess, at least, lol. It's the same tactic that Anna Wintour used for the Met Gala. That event is just a fundraiser for the Costume Institute, but has become one of the biggest events in the country because of the number of high-profile celebs who attend it.
