    Hello from Birmingham UK. My friend’s son has had one of these for 12 months. He was only 21 too. He loves his. I had a 98 T509 and a 955 Daytona. I loved them. I’ve stopped riding now. I’m 64 and too many back and body problems to carry on. The Triumph factory tour is great if you ever come to England. If you ever get the chance the TT at the Isle of Man is a massive eye opener. It’s actually frightening how fast the are. Good video. I enjoyed watching it.

      Well thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'm sorry to hear that you no longer ride. I know of a few riders who have started riding CanAn Spyders due to injuries. Maybe that could be an option for you. They don't lean but the riding position and controls are very motorcycle like.
      I have put the Isle of Mann TT on my bucket list, but most likely will have to settle for videos of it. I find it hard to put aside even a few days the past few years to ride. Much less a few weeks.
      Again, sorry to hear you don't ride anymore, but give your friends son my best and tell him to ride safe.
      Cheers from the good Ole US of A.

      @@scottsspeedtriplechannel Are you open for some questions? I would like to know what you think about that too narrow gap between handle bar and front suspension. • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm fine with questions. I did adjust my handlebars forward a bit, but I seem to remember only being able to make about a half turn of the adjusters at a time. Just remember to count the clicks or turns for preload so you can keep it straight. When I first got the bike, I softened it all the way for both preload and dampening settings then stiffened it all the way and counted the turns or clicks do I would know what I had to work with. I saw a video or an ad for a cap that goes over the fork caps. It was designed so that you could turn the adjustment with your fingers. If I can find that again. I'll post a link.

    Really enjoyed your recount of the ownership experience. TBH I think you’ve been patient with Triumph over the issues; slack engine bolts could have ended in disaster, missing key just not acceptable and a loose side stand (oh dear!). Nice that you got your scrolling indicators, but the story just says “sloppy” Triumph. What a diabolical rascal the previous service manager was, no wonder he was let go. Like most of your mods, maybe not the auxiliary lights, but hey it’s your bike. I too think it’s a great machine. Hope you get as much pleasure over the years as with your previous 1050. I may have been able to get a better deal or price if I would have tried.

    About the directionals being illegal in the U.S. I believe it’s for the same reason they have strict guidelines for cars.
    For cars there must be a larger area of a solid directional that illuminates before the sequential lights begin their dance towards the direction you are turning.
    Could it be that the directionals on motorcycles are already small as it is…..I don’t know.
    Come to think of it, it would be cool to see a thin ring or thin oval ring with a line of line of sequential lights.
    All LED of course.

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před 7 měsíci

      You are absolutely right. The requirement in the US is that upon initial activation the turn signal must be of a certain amount of lit area. Brightness and distance of visibility do not matter.
      Upon initial activation of the scrolling Triumph signals only one tiny LED is lit, not enough area covered. In reality they are brighter, can be seen better at distance and also will catch other motorists eyes quicker than the standard Triumph signals.
      Sometimes regulations don't really do justice.

      First, thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video and will continue to watch in the future.
      To the best of my knowledge, every new vehicle sold is supposed to come with two keys or key FOBs. I think this is some type of law. As for the Scrambler I don't know the particulars about the bike so cannot say if it comes with a full size backup or a tiny black non-powered one. You probably saw the pictures of the backup in the video. It's about the size of a US penny.
      They told me that the backup was not in the original crate/ packaging when they received the bike. I think it was so small that it got lost or tossed. It's important to have a second key for any vehicle you own. A damaged or lost key/FOB without a backup makes you dead in the water.
      BTW, I'm sorry I did not respond sooner. For some reason this comment did not show up in the regular place. I just now noticed it while in YT Studio checking analytics.

    Hi Scott, how would you compare the trottle response, smoothness and sound to the 05-10 Speed Triple?

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před rokem

      My '07 Speed Triple was not "fly by wire". The throttle was more responsive to input. It did not take as much twist to start moving from a stop. Being my first "fly by wire" bike that I've owned, I just thought that was how they all must be. From day one, I felt like I had to give the bike more gas to get rolling.
      On the bright side, it also seems that when hitting jarring bumps or rough areas that wrist twitch doesn't upset the speed of the bike. Not as many abrupt throttle changes that I don't mean to happen.
      I've heard of the pieces you can get for some bikes to take up the slack in the "FBW" throttles to give it a more instantaneous response. I think I would like to try that, but haven't found one yet for the new model.

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před rokem

      Soundwise, the '07 and the 1200 are very different. Even though they are both triples, the new model is freer spinning and larger.
      I had the original OEM exhaust on the '07 and it had a 3 into 1 into 2 setup. After 30,000 miles, it had an incredible off throttle burble, almost backfire sound. I liked it a lot. The mufflers were up closer to your ears also.
      The RS with the 3 into 1 into a split muffler just won't sound the same. I get a slight bit of burble on deceleration with the new muffler, but not very noticeable.
      I used to ride the '07 to lots of race events and longer trips. The higher mufflers made using saddlebags a real problem. If I do any trips with the 1200, I think saddlebags will be easier to use.

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před rokem +1

      Have you watched the "Installing the SC Project muffler" video? I have some audio from the 1200 OEM compared to the new muffler. My attempt at using a laptop with a desk mic failed, so the audio is all Go Pro, but you could get an idea. I never recorded anything about the '07 so I don't have any sound from it to use.

    • @jerryx2000
      @jerryx2000 Před rokem +1

      I am not a fan of ride by wire bikes. I sold my 2017 Aprilia Tuono because of its ride by wire on/off & snatchy throttle. I have a local guy selling a 2010 Speed Triple with only 2800km. Was you old Speed reliable? Did it use oil or other issues?

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před rokem

      I sold my '07 to a friend with about 70,000 miles on it. I broke it in a bit hard, and it did burn about 1/2 quart of oil between oil changes (every 3,000 miles).
      I maintained it pretty well. It had some issues with the charging system. The battery sits on it side and with the old school maintainence free liquid filled batteries it would kill a battery every year or so. I changed to a gel or matte type battery and that was solved. However, before I changed battery types, it caused a couple of regulator/rectifier failures and one time killed the stator. The issue with those was the connector (3 yellow charging wires from the stator). The connection was made from different materials than the copper wire and would not flow perfect with heat and such. The simple fix is to direct connect the stator wires (eliminate the connector) Sauter copper wire to copper wire. After that I did not have the problem again.
      I had the bike nearly 15 years, ride on all conditions sometimes putting 1,500 miles in a few days. Mostly just regular problems.
      Zero engine or transmission problems. One thing I found strange was that any coolant I would put in the overflow tank would just boil out.

    How would you compare the chassis between this latest model vs the 2007 one? Did it make the bike handle better in the cornera? My understanding was that the 2007 one wasnt as nimble as the same generation street triples, which was what i had. But thinking about getting this latest gen speed triple.

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před 9 měsíci

      I worked at a Triumph dealership in 07. I've ridden the Street Triples then too. The Speed Triple was definitely a heavier bike then as far as handling and nimbleness goes. The Street Triples in 07 were far more agile. That is not to say the Speed handled poorly, just took a bit more effort to move it around.
      From the 07 to today's Speed Triples there is just as big if not a bigger difference. In one of my videos I even mention that the 07 felt more stable than the 22 model, especially in high winds.
      The new Speed Triple goes into turns so quickly and easily that it feels more like a Street Triple than the old 07 Speed Triple.
      This is by far one of if not the best handling motorcycles I have ever ridden. I liked the ergonomics of the 07 and it handled well, but the 2022 is absolutely incredible.
      It's just so easy to ride. You may have heard about how it makes you feel confident, well that is so true. Please take a test ride on one. Take it through some curves, use the brakes a bit and roll on the gas from 5,000 rpm one time and I guarantee you'll believe me.
      This model was re-engineered from the 2021s and Triumph got it right. I'm not just saying this because I own one.

    • @scottsspeedtriplechannel
      @scottsspeedtriplechannel  Před rokem

      The "on-run-start-stop" switch is all in one. That's new to me. All of my previous bikes had keys and a switch for kill or run (on or off) with a button to press to start the engine.
      This bike has one switch and of course no key. The ignition switch is a toggle switch with momentary switches on the upper and lower sides. To turn the bike to the on position so that the screen comes on, toggle the switch up, then press up momentarily. The screen comes on. To shut off the screen, momentary press up again.
      To start the bike you must toggle the switch down into the run position, then press the momentary switch down to activate the starter. You can either turn on the screen first, then switch to run mode or toggle down before turning on the screen for "quick start" mode. If you toggle down first the screen won't come on until you start the bike.
      The toggle switch is always down when the bike is running and to turn it off, you toggle it up. Then the engine shuts off. To shut the screen off momentary press up.
      To lock the steering, turn the handlebars to the side before shutting off the screen and press the "lock" button which is mounted above the "on-run-start-stop" switch. Then the screen shuts off and the steering lock activates.
      To address your original question; it does take a bit of pressure to activate the toggle and momentary switches, but there is no separate button to start the bike.
      I guess this might be the way bikes are heading with all the keyless ignition.
      Are you subscribed? If not, subscribe and reply back to me and I'll put together a video showing the start, stop keyless system for you. It may be a few weeks, but I promise I'll get one done.

I envision a really large TFT display large enough for all the information and shot of whats on your 6. It could even be a smart cam system that alerts you when someone comes up behind for instance and also could have the option of loop recording and maybe a momentary button that zooms? COULD be just SO superior to mirrors in every way so I dont understand why we are not seeing such even on high end stuff yet?? And hey with a REALLY smart system it could even store image types to look for similar to facial recognition except it would look for things like I dont know? POLICE CARS? Actually would not even need to recognize the vehicle it could read LICENSE PLATES and warn you for ANY government plates coming ANYWHERE in the cameras view! And ANY motorcycles too (as cop bikes dont have front license plates we'd just have to maybe settle for it spotting motorcycles with windshields? which would be fine ....anyway Tell me THAT wouldnt be so cool? So for the first 100 to 200 miles when I exceeded like 2500 rpm it would show red. Then as the mileage increased it would automatically update to the next level. Next I just picked up my new 2022 Speed Triple today and find I cannot cover the brake pedal with my foot as it seems partially engaged. So am I to just keep my foot to the side of the brake pedal? And finally have you seen this muffler? Looks to eliminate all the brackets in back if I do away with the foot pegs and install the Tail Tidy? Normally when I ride, my toes are on the pegs mist of the time unless shifting or braking. If I do ride with the center of my foot on the peg, my toes are to the side of the brake lever and shifter. I have to reposition my foot a little to shift or brake. As far as the brake lever being partially engaged, I doubt that. You would probably smell it or at least feel the excess heat. Do you feel a drag when riding or when rolling the bike? Also if the height of the brake lever is the issue, I think it can be adjusted somewhat up or down. I adjusted my shift lever down a bit because my new boots were thinner than the old ones. The brake should not be partially engaged until you engage it.. be careful with that
      That might be a Zard exhaust. Do a search for 2022 Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS exhausts and mufflers and you will find a few more that are "shirty" styled and utilize no bracket in the rear. I think I've seen at least two besides the one in the link you sent. I like the look if the one you found there though.
