when Xu Xin lead 3-1 to Fan, I recalled to some matches in the past when Fan was left behind, his mentality still rock and solid and that make him become champion, and I just talked he will beat XX, and he did that indeed. Congratulation Fan Zheng Dong he has mentality of the Champion.

interesting the shakehand player (Chen) coaches the penholder and vice versa the penhold player (Wang Hao) coaches the shakehander.
@@matmagix3845 I think it's more that their coaches respective tactics are very similar to their players rather than their grip.

Xu Xin was getting too tired near the end. You can see him gasping for air, and he turned more into a defensive player. 3 years ago, he would've won. Now, FZD has improved too much, and easily #1 in the world.

The game took one hour 27 minutes! No chance for the old to beat the young in a marathon like this. XX has all the bandages on legs and wrist which made me believe it would be a easy walk through for FZD, especially after XX's tough mix double final lost by a close margin a day earlier. It is too much asking from XX I must say. But respect for XX to take a 3:1 lead early by surprise. Too bad he lost the most important set 5 after leading 9:7. History tells me that the chance for XX to win is slim if he can't finish the game early and let the game drag on this long. Hope to see all doing well in Olympics and let the best win the title.

@@KapeeshPC The best ever penholders Ma Lin and Wang Hao both retired around 30 and not doing too well in their last year so 31 is already considered old in the world of CNT.
@@turboz551 You guys are still saying like they are ancient. Timo Boll is still in the top rankings even beating Ma Long in 2017. Being over 30.
They are not doing well, cuz sometimes it just be like that. Some days are better, some worse.
@@KapeeshPC Competition inside CNT is much fierce than any other country. So many youngsters are very competitive and tried hard to take their places. That is not quite the same outside China so players like Timo and Samsonov can still represent their countries and play into their 40s no problem. Also penhold style is much more physically demanding than shakehand due to the weaker backhand so their competition life is normally considered shorter. Timo is an odd one to stay on top for so long. That is not the norm I am afraid. ZJK is already long gone. Ma Long and Xu Xin are veterans among CNT players. They are already married with kids. You can't find any older players than them in CNT and still on top. They have my respect and no shame losing to younger uprising CNT players.
@@turboz551 I personally just think the newer ones get better than the older generation. Not that the older generation gets slower and that's why youngsters are beating them. I don't care if you are Chinese or anywhere. 30 is not old by any means. Movement and stuff gettimg worse is more noticeable when you are in your 50s.

It's really difficult to play with a left handed player especially while playing double or mix-double.He will be a pressure to the counter part.

Fan's supposed to win 2nd,3rd &4th game and the whole match if he tried more to attack the ball to both edges of Xu's right & left sides as he usually did and did play in 5th game instead of just stick to Xu's left side. And that proved one thing you can only ajust your expert way of doing things at one time temporarily , but not always...

Lets face, when players are starting to get into their 30's in sports where fast mobility and endurance are crucial at the top pro level, it is often the beginning of 'getting old'. Some hang in there longer than others such as Roger Federer in Tennis, or Timo Boll in TT. I'm fortunate at my age, 66, I am still quick and mobile (for my level) I am not bragging here, as I am at a low club level, dont play much.I play penhold in the style of Wang Hao and the backhands are just beautiful. Wish I was JUST 20 years younger, than I would put more time and enegy into being a 'serious' club player.
