    I appreciated that at the end Felix accepted the loss in an humble way. Ma long is superior to him right know. But Felix is still young, he has still so much to learn in experience, he will become far more stronger than now in a few years. He should not be in hurry. Ma long is at the end of his career, he deserves some last trophies.

    • @jtack64
      @jtack64 Před 7 měsíci +4

      Obviously you do not play tt. No matter how much exp Felix will learn, no matter how strong he will be, he will not be able to dominate tt world like Ma Long, not even close, simply because he plays pen-hold. Do not get me wrong, I play pen-hold as well, so I know it. The ceiling of pen-hold is right there, no matter Felix, Qiu Dang or Wang Hao, the limit is there compared to shakehand, I mean you can play pen-hold very very well, but again the limit is there for the time being.
      So I mean maybe some other young player would be close to Ma Long's career (though very less possibility), but not Felix as a pen-hold player, not any other pen-hold player so far as I can tell (I watch almost all important tt matches).

      Pen holder CAN REALLY STRONG
      and also MORE FLEXIBLE
      MUCH STRONGER THAN WHAY YOU CAN EXPECT…
      The key is HOW YOU RE USING YOUR WRIST POWER It’s a HIDDEN power
      The penholders griping is short so it is more FLEXIBLE while handshake griping is relatively long and easily to GENERATE MORE POWER on the FAST SHOTS
      so …they re both got their advantages
      TO BE GOOD OR EVEN ELITE IN MASTERING PEN HOLDER IS MUCH HARDER THAN THOSE USING HANDSHAKE 😂😂😂😂😂

I guess it's hard for him to prepare for these high stakes games since there are so few players that can outplay him, at this point he's the best western player, and maybe the best non-Chinese, tied with Harimoto (though you could consider Harimoto a Chinese player aswell i guess)

    I've rarely seen Ma Long so agitated - he really didn't want to lose to this French kid playing Chinese penhold. To see the pressure getting to Ma Long was actually quite weird. In the end experience and guile got him home. They played in Budapest last year and Felix just failed to take Ma to five sets - he's getting closer! • @Wally-H
      @Wally-H Před 7 měsíci

      Xu Xin did have one weakness though - he learnt to play the RPB but he wasn't as good at it as Felix. If Felix had played him and drawn him into backhand rallies, he would have buried Xu Xin. As I remember it, Xu Xin would try to get around the ball and play as much on his forehand as he could and sometimes against the very best opponents that was his undoing. For sure it would have been a fascinating tactical match.

    • @pham1020
      @pham1020 Před 7 měsíci

      @@Wally-H RBP used to be his weakness. But by 2019, he managed to improve his RBP. His game became more complete and he managed to destroy ML a couple times. Also, Xu Xin's touch game is much better than Felix and it will be a lot of unpredictable shots for him to deal with given the fact that Felix right doesn't as much experience. Hard to tell if he will be able to adapt to that. The one reason that Harimoto could beat ML but never beat Xu Xin. Sadly, we will never see this match.

    • @bryanwells4063
      @bryanwells4063 Před 3 měsíci

      @@Wally-H Xu Xin is a lefty so the matchup would be very bad. No matter how good Felix's backhand is, if Xu Xin is ripping his lefty sidespin forehands from way behind the table at him, Felix won't be able to do anything. And even with Xu Xin's backhand being his weakness, he could still use that thing with deadly precision and power, and Felix's forehand just isn't delevoped enough to win against Xu Xins backhand from behind the table, and especially his step around forehand to Felix's forehand. I think, at least in their first encounter, Felix would lose 0-3, or 0-4, whatever it is, Xu Xin was just too crafty and consistant. Maybe in future encounters, but Felix plays quite similar to Harimoto and we all know how the matchup was between those two (harimoto and Xu Xin)

  • @VoicesofMusic
    @VoicesofMusic Před 7 měsíci +60

    Really great match because both players continually changed tactics. Lebrun had trouble with Ma Long's serve throughout; if they play again expect Lebrun to adapt to the serve. Ma Long raises his hand before receiving serve to slow the match in irregular, not regular patterns: this definitely had an effect and was presumably a planned strategy. Ma Long also carefully used only a few times the super biter serve with maximum downspin, sometimes with sidespin, and also used this on some short pushes. The heavy spin is easy to read because it hops off the table shorter or moves sideways, and so is not used that often as it is easy to read, but LeBrun netted a few of these with the result that he didn't have the best net clearance margin on some other "normal" serves and pushes. Expect in a rematch that Lebrun will definitely read these heavy spin serves no problem, so we look forward to a rematch.
    Ma Long's supersonic forehand, that does not rise from table when struck, but hugs the table, was missing from this match. This small difference had only a small effect but probably worth a few points. The forehand was still great, but we didn't see his extra gear, probably just a bit stiff.

      No, he knows he's got a stronger stamina than all those old farts, now Dima knows he's too old, Ma Long was already out of order at 4-2 in the 4th game and completely let the things go out of his control because he knew it was impossible to deal with that speedy kid. Back in the day in the 90's, you had to play more rallies, more points, with less water break, witrh no one raising his hand for nothing before receiving the service. It was true duel, like the WTTC 93 final: 1h03 to play 190 points ! and only 4 water breaks... They do not only raise their hand because they can't read the serve or want to play a mind game. They all do this because after 3 games they're all let with no gas in the motor ! man... Gatien Saive and Waldner must be laughing nowadays...

      Oh, felix certainly tried to... Everyone tries to. But that is what makes Ma Long so difficult to beat. He makes it impossible to just hit to his backhand, because he will simply step around and smash with his forehand, or block/counter so consistantly with his backhand that you have no choice but to try to hit to his wide forehand. He has such a complete game, it is insane.

    Felix 打法類似張本智和,都是調整拍面去彈打任何旋轉的來球,他們對來球的旋轉,判斷錯誤,就出界或下網,這種球除了快外,沒有質量,只要馬龍抓住,Felix 彈擊那種快速直球或彈擊那種快速下旋的命中率高,那麼,馬龍不會一再送出那種球讓對方彈擊。換言之,馬龍在第5局,調整了自己打球節奏和旋轉,Felix 變成不會打球了,因為他打球除了快外,質量和變化都沒什麼。總之:一位頂尖乒乓好手,除了快外,還要兼顧球的質量,旋轉和變化度。

      @@Wally-HWell, he has a very deep understanding of the game, he even was credited by tennis player Tomas Johansson when he beat Andre Agassi, Waldner had noticed a pattern where Johansson tended to win the points and when advised, Johansson changed tactics and won. So I imagine the stuff he picks up in table tennis is far above what grip someone uses. He also has a lot of experience as opponent to pen holders.

  • @GrumpyOldSwede-ef4yz

    Interesting to watch the psychological aspect of this game. The Lebrun brothers are of course known for their unsportsmanlike tendency to hurry up the game and rush the serves while the opponent isn't prepared, and we've already seen cases of the opponents making a point out of this by being slow to receive (don't remember the exact game though, sorry, but in that instance the opponent was warned for not being ready). In this match we have a milder version of the same with Ma Long doing it to a lesser degree, obviously not to the extent of receiving a warning. He did catch Felix at (only) one time serving away while being unaware of his opponent. For another opponent I'm guessing his failure to be ready could have warranted a warning from the referee, but since everyone is aware of Lebrun's rushing the service I believe he was getting some leeway. You see Ma Long also taking his sweet time for his own services - hardly a coincidence but a way to disrupt the pace for Lebrun and get him out of sorts. Then you have Lebrun being very vocal for instance while Ma Long is getting ready to serve - various loud encouragements that almost seem as much directed as his opponent as himself. It seems these things are now part of every day table tennis at the highest level. I, for one, blame Harimoto at least in part for this development.

      I think you got it right. I too have noticed all that circus of voices and shouts that the boy does before the opponent's serve is really annoying and makes me dislike the two brothers a lot.
