This was the most intense match of the table tennis history. Both player delivered their best. It might have taken a considerable time for Dima to cope with this defeat.

This is simply the greatest losing performance in Table Tennis history by Ovtcharov. I’ve never seen a player play this out of their mind considering his opponent and stage and still lose. Just tells you Ma Long is undisputedly the greatest ever.
That was indeed the best match of the Olympics and one of the best matches in recent years. Hats off to Dima for coming so close to dethrone The Dictator.

WOW WOW WOW that match was amazing the passion and skill in just so great, this match was as close as it could possibly get Dima just playing incredibly, pulling off magical shot after shot, high risk high reward is how he rolls while Ma Longs incredible persistance and superhuman consistancy pulled through to let his win, just barely!
Every points of this match are worthy point of the match, they gave everything they got, it's privileged to watch

I really don't like Dima's style, but wow, in this match he really deserved to win. What an example of a battle for young European players.
Dima has to win with back hand and that makes his style very grinding and tedious to watch like a Nadal tennis match, but he has come closest to upsetting the apple cart.
@@Ragameiste Dima's backhand is great but Ma Long's has been perfecting is backhand blocking for years going up against the likes of Zhang Jike, Fan Zhendong and Wang Hao. His backhand side has become an iron wall by now.
@@SahilPawar95 if there is one chink in this great iron wall, it is the backhand. Dima came close to breaking it only to be undone by a weaker forehand. Recently Fan has had many upsets as did Jike. All that tried to take on his forehand lie in ruins. Such is the power of the GOAT.

@@nishantupadhyay01 Ma Long is the best player ever, but in some matches, his opponent was just as good if not better. Ma Long nevertheless didn’t lose; almost lost. His experience along with luck kept him on top. No one is perfect. Don’t forget that the legend is also aging compared to some young rising stars. Sometimes good luck is the tipping scale when other factors come short for success. That’s what I meant; otherwise, Ma Long must have been a perfect player in all his matches.

In my opinion many of the serves from both players were illegal serves. Some of the serves where they throw the ball very high, the ball is not going vertically because in some cases the contact point is more than 50 cm away from the throwing point. (I have no idea if they is an upper limit of how far is permitted the contact point to be from the throwing point). In some high serves of Ma Long he covers the ball with his body and the ball is not visible from his opponent all the way before the contact. In some backhand serves from Dimitrij Ovtcharov, the ball was not thrown high enough (I think has to be at least 15 cm or 16 cm).
trust me, there are players with lot worse cheating serves, not vertical, not high enough, and body cover these are not confusing, but if someone hide the ball contact with his arm that is the most annoying thing.

There was one tournament, I don't remember which one, where they used technology to determine whether the serves were illegal. If I remember correctly, they determined whether the ball was thrown almost vertically if the angle between the line from the point where the ball left the hand to the point where the ball had a maximal height was off by more than 30° from a perfect vertical line.
