    • @-danR
      @-danR Před 2 lety +2

I used to use scissors that way, but got a much nicer bevel using a long and very sharp knife. Trimmed the rubber off roughly and fast with big scissors ( ~5 mm overhang), then with the knife, wetting the rubber on the smooth side with water and (very small amount of) soap as a surfactant/lubricant. The knife pulled down from the smooth side towards the sponge/racquet side in long strokes, resting the blade lightly against the wood. About 10 strokes of the knife completes the job.
Later when I got better at this got about 3mm overhang with the scissors and then glue the other side's rubber and same thing with scissors. Then I could do both sides with the knife without waiting.
This got a nice professional job that looked like it was done with a machine.
It always puzzled me to see pro-players with up to 2mm (Ovtcharov excepted) overhang around the edge of their blades. That overhang is useless mass that is actually quite a bit of weight that contributes nothing to the strokes and takes a few feet/sec off the fastest whipping loop or smash, creates extra turbulence-drag, also slowing down the final velocity at ball-strike, and represents an area a pro would never come close to in a stroke. That overhang's mass' only useful attribute would be to lower transverse wobble instability and to widen (slightly) the sweet-spot. But if you want that, it would be even better to have an extra 2mm actual blade around the perimeter, and a good rubber-bevel from the blade-edge.
