Hi. I am a HGV 1 and 2 driver of over 30 years. I still drive class 1 ' s for a very large logistics company in the south west. I have trucking in my blood , my father was also a HGV 2 tanker driver. If you need any help or advise , please do not hesitate to ask. To all of you thinking about starting out as a HGV driver, do it cos you want to be a driver, not just for the money, because you may well waste your money. Pro' s ... no manager looking over your shoulder, plenty of hours of pay, new trucks are a joy to drive, and you join a band of mostly very helpful professional brothers and sisters.
Cons, long and un-sociable days or nights, long periods of time working alone, some very poor operator's out there.
It is up to you to make the job good for you, if you do not like the job, walk away and try somrthing else.
I love trucking, and drive around 2500 km a week on multi drop artic work, using a moffett to tip my self. I also have a general interest in the industry past and present.

Hi mate. I've just passed my theory last Thursday and starting my practical training next week on a class C which I'm actually looking forward to as so far all I've done is revise for my theory.
Is it true that on the class 2 test, we have to follow the signs and not use sat nav? I usually drive my car relying on my sat nav mostly n now I have to relearn using sign boards cuz my instructor said so, it's a major pain in the ass. I thought I could just invest on a decent truck sat nav n be on my way.
The most easy thing youl do in the week of driving for a class 2..passed mine today was a doddle..
I am due to begin the lorry driver education next year, and I am gathering as much feedback as possible. I have been watching a few of your videos, and this one is really helpful. Granted, it will take a few months before I have to pass the HGV exam, but it never hurts to be out early gathering intel, so to speak! Great video, Deady! Thanks :)

Thanks deady. Just done my medical today mate fingers crossed for the rest.. paid 1750 all in for class 2 with pass protection covers 1 test fail and cpc and theory and hazards so I don't think that's bad 20hrs lessons . Fingers crossed

seems straight forward. much easier than your class 1 C+E reversing with opposite lock
The C+E is actually easier to complete than this..... Funny because in the real world C+E is an absolute bitch to reverse hahaha!
Great video to confirm what Ive learned. Taking my Cat 2 in a couple of days so binging theory side of things. Just have to say, stick the subtitles on if you want a good laugh. CZcams doesn't understand the northern accents at all. lol

I’ve already gone through it and failed once. You should relax mate and just enjoy the process. Always give way to everything else on the road, just a tip.

@@halb1282 : Well just stay calm and remember what you’ve been taught. Yeah you can get away with a lot in a car but they can fail you for silly things with truck driving in my opinion. Good luck.

I've come from catering too mate and just booked on with a training company today... Being a chef can be a great job but pay is crap, it's antisocial and you have to dedicate your entire life to it for you to make anything out of it. Being out on the open road seems much more appealing. How are you finding it? Did you follow it all through and get work in the end? Would love to hear some feedback because I'm bricking it lol.

Got my medical on the 26th of this month I'm kinda excited and nervous at same time now. Its happening but hey ho
This has changed a little since then, when you started backing up you moved then steered which is how I was taught as a bus driver in 2004, but now you are allowed to full lock your wheel before even moving, it makes it way more easier to get into that box, I'm surprised if they don't shorten the distance to add some kind of skill needed, I love to drive so it was too easy, to the point the tester was barely even interested.

Nice videos! Got my class 2 retest in a couple of weeks. Any advice for going right on roundabouts? Failed my first for clipping the rear wheels on a roundabout kerb.
Take as much room as you need. Keep checking your mirrors. Take your time. Don't be afraid to take up 2 lanes.
Ask your instructor for more advice bud. He knows more than me lol.

Yeah. They said ‘Head towards Liverpool’ and you have to follow signs to head in that general direction.
Thanks for sharing this. I start my class 2 practical on the 26th and have my test on the 30th (December). My biggest fear is the reversing part and getting it right. I'm driving 7.5t right now so the actual driving part of the test I have no worries about, just the reversing and being able to judge that small distance you have in the box. Thank you :)
If you can drive 7.5 you'll easy be able to do Class 2. Good Luck!

Hi I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks and you helped a lot with the cpc theory . I had my first driving lesson today )class 2) and went for a drive for 1 and a half hours. We didn’t get a chance to do any reversing today but he said I was a really good driver. I’m worried sick about the reversing exercise test on Wednesday. I’ve watched lots of videos but read lots of reviews where people fail even though they was good practicing 😅

I'm currently doing my class 2, my instructor has said I can have my wheel ON the line for the first part of the reverse, but can't go OVER the line, if it makes sense. I'm not sure this is true (I've even physically demonstrated it to the instructor in case there's been a misunderstanding).

I wouldn't be so sure, your best bet is just to keep away from that yellow line as best you can.
Same instructor I had when I did class 2 there... did my class 1 with enterprise though

F1 LAP because there trucks are auto (if you pass in a auto and have a manual car licence then you can drive manual trucks) and there prices were better and I no the test route areas better

Everything is done online now for research, they don't give books away, can you recommend a good book or two, too buy? I learn better by reading books

Failed class 2 today on this so annoyed with myself done it perfect when practicing and for some reason I just made a mess of it and hit b cone I would of passed if never done that
Unlucky mate, get it nailed down & make a reference with a truck or a bush or a cone or something that's inline with B cone, so you know on the reference that you have turned enough. I'm sure you'll hammer it next time mate.

Congratts mate! Get your CPC Mod 2 booked. I've had to wait 3 weeks for mine and i really don't want to! I could have been working now but i have to wait for my CPC stuff. I can't book my mod 4 until i've passed my mod 2. So frustrating lol!
