    They look wonderful! I'm having so much work trying to get my Dischidia to root btw, has tons of arial roots but not the other. Succulents are doing amazing in hydro, I'm very surprised!

      Hmmmm. What are you using to root the Dischidia? Are they under enough light? Let’s figure this out. 😃😃😃

      @@paultheplantparent2702 I have them in a light coco husk with terrarium soil mixture. It stays moist but not too wet. I have the cuttings sitting under my monstera lights which are pretty bright, and also growing my Calatheas. They are flourishing, I put them there knowing dischidia love light. I have one cutting laying down with aerial roots going into the soil. The other cutting is upright and growing vertically with the bottom leaves removed, and the aerial roots dried up. Knowing my luck I put the wrong end of the plant info the soil lol.

    Hi Paul - have you grown gynura purple passion semi hydro? I'm wondering if it would work or if the natural fuzz on the stems would end up wicking water and rotting it. I haven't grown it for years but your video reminded me of it. Time to add gynura back into my house as well as strobilanthes persian shield - I see a trip to the nursery happening this week:) Nice snake plant! Your camera in one hand "look at the plant" comment make me laugh!

      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Lolol. So funny. Yes gynura works in semi hydro. The only thing I noticed was a little mineral buildup on the stem, since it wicks like you said. But if you flush regularly, it should be fine. 😃👍🏼

    Hi Paul, I'm so over soil so I have just removed the soil from all my indoor plants and placed them all in jars of water. I have a question about the soil roots, does it matter if you chop them to an inch or so long or just leave them. Some of my calatheas and syngoniums roots were really long so I chopped the roots to an inch long and just have the roots sitting in water. What are your thoughts on soil roots, chop them or leave them?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I’ve done that too. As long as the plants are relatively healthy, they usually bounce back without a problem. Some of the roots would shed anyway while it grows new water roots. 😃👍🏼

    Hi! I just acquired a polka dot plant and I was wondering if you can grow that in water or acrylic? Thanks.

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci +1

      If it’s the pink polkadot (or white, or red) they grow fine in water and/or acrylic. They root up pretty quickly so they can acclimate pretty easily. 😃👍🏼

    So which is better for a beginner, Leca, or Lava Rock? For Hoya's and Thanksgiving Cactus, and one Crown of Thorns? I am getting tired of messy soil, that attracts bugs.

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci

      Well, if you’re ever thinking of taking them back out later, Leca is a little easier - lava rock holds onto the roots more. But personally, I love lava rock for everything. It holds more moisture and is a little heavier so it’s more stable. It’s also cheaper and I find it locally. But that’s just my opinion. They’re both great!!!!

      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hello there. I have done in semi hydro and some in water. The main issue (aside from the nasty thrip attack) was forgetting about them and they dried up. So hard to bring them back after a bad dehydration. But yeah. S/h works well too. 😃👍🏼

    Hello. You are the second person this week I have seen use Orchid soluble food for semi hydro. The other guy uses 11-35-15 better bloom. Can I ask what makes you use this one and and not hydro specific food.

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I also have hydro food - Maxigro, but when I experimented with the orchid feed, it gave the same or better results. It makes sense because orchids can’t grow in soil, so they need fertilizer that’s easily absorbed and available to the roots - both micro and macro nutrients. Plus, orchids can be sensitive plants, so if it works for them, I figured it could be a good option for s/h and water culture. And they’re all doing great!!! 😊 👍🏼🌱
