    I sometimes get the opportunity to check out and drive awesome customer builds. This car is an awesome example of something that could be a bargain now but more collectible in the future. I figured this was a good opportunity to talk about a car that doesn't get as much love as maybe some of its newer versions of itself. It also maybe a car to consider purchasing if you are in the market for a "special" Mustang. The 2007 Shelby GT500. This one started out stock when dropped off with us and now leaves transformed into a pretty stout street machine. We installed a built short block, a VMP Gen 3R supercharger kit and Kooks headers.

    These cars will go up in value because they were first take on shelby come back. In first part of 2007, was fastest muscle car out there.

    Got 3.73 gears in my 2008 GT500 along with smaller pulley, tune, intake, Borla Tourings with H pipe. She dyno'd at 550 at the rear. Even the brand new 2015 GT PP car I owned does not compare to the fun factor of the GT500. The acceleration is INSANE and the whine is "heaven". :D Plus i'm a sucker for the S197 since my favorite GT was a 2006 out of the many Mustangs I have owned.

      Amen, I love S197 as it was the last of the real raw solid axle muscle.

      I got almost exactly mods you do except I got borla stingers and 4.10 and mine also put down 550. It's a monster on a 17x7/15x10 f14 drag pack with an et street r on the back. Traction in first is insane...it will slam your head through the back seat lol. So raw and beastly and it sounds wicked. Had no trouble walking walking away from a stockish 17 ss camaro 8 speed auto. These cars are so badass. Way more unique and cool than a coyote everyone has a coyote. They're both capable of big power but these sound better and have more torque. Love these cars.

      Our 09 has a Whipple 2.9, with 3:73's, Mcleod RXT, high flow cats, slp axle backs. I too am a sucker for the S-197 platform, feel that Ford got the look down pat!

    YES THEY CAN! My 2008 Shelby conv. GT500 kicks most cars asses with no problem and totally stock except cold air. My cars value has gone up 20 K since I bought it in 2012. Funny, but every regular new mustang gets out of my way and can't keep up with my Shelby. Never mind a reg 2013 GT. 2024 is the first yr a mustang is getting a 6 speed Tremec , Shelby had this in 2007!

    Trying not to disrespect as we are both Mustang lovers. But your 2013 GT would not even come close to standing a chance against a 2007 GT500. I have a number of friends with your same GT and wow what fun cars. But they have never even come close to hanging with my 2007 GT500. Now I will give you something here. The way the 2007 came from the factory after a run maybe two the supercharger gets heat soaked and a 2013 GT will then tromp on it. But a simple Heat Exchange upgrade will allow the 2007 to continuously tromp the 2013.

    I love my 2009 shelby gt500 it has 373 with smaller pulley and tune and intake and with plans of long tubes and throttle body in near future but it's already a handful in my opinion it really blows my mind when I hear people say that they are slow or sluggish really? what do these people normally drive a acme rocket ?lmao I really couldn't imagine needing more power for street use in reality and I still average 19.5 to 20 mpg on the highway but if you do want more these cars have alot of power potential if that's your game and will always be more valuable and have more prestige then any dime a dozen GT car anyday.

    • @midnight347

      People judge them off what they do bone stock as if anyone keeps their car stock anyways lol. Once they're modded even with minor things like you speak of it turns into a completely different animal. These cars with light mods, a tire and a driver behind the wheel can be a force to be reckoned with. They're far from slow for a car from 2007 its actually quite the opposite. What makes these badass isn't what they do stock its what they're capable of once modded with pretty simple mods. 600+ rwhp with bolt ons alone and you're a simple blower swap (similar to changing an upper intake manifold) away from making 700-800 rwhp. The stock motor and trans can both handle this power level no problem. The only gt that can hang with these fbo for fbo is a 10r80 car and even those would have trouble matching what these can do. Only way they can match is on e85 if both are on pump the gt500 smokes em. Even when the 5.0 is on e85 it's gonna have its hands full with a true fbo well driven 07-09 gt500. People say uea throw a blower on the 5.0 and see what happens...well if you do that you can also swap the blower on the gt500 and make similar power on stock motor with way more torque down low. These engines also sound better imo. Totally different sound and feel vs a coyote. Give it a more old school muscle look, sound and feel.

      @midnight347 Před 2 lety

      Another thing is the stock gearing is real long so when they're stock they're gonna feel sluggish compared to the way better gearing in a coyote car. Bolt on, gears and a sticky tire and all the sudden they're not sluggish anymore and can rip your face off in 1st and 2nd gear. These things were making 800+ rwhp everywhere years before the coyote even existed. These and terminators are the og of modern badass fords. The coyote owes alot to those cars for paving the way.

    BTW a fbo 5.4 gt500 with a gen3r on pump can easily make well over 700 to the tire. 650 is 2.3 tvs numbers even those can go above that with the right supporting mods. It's all in the supporting mods. A gen3r on a bone stock car otherwise can make above 650. With the right supporting mods and fuel a gen3r 5.4 can easily make 700-800 even on 93 pump gas. My bolt on 07 put down 550 through 4.10 on 93 and it has a 2.6 upper, stock lower, unported blower and stock exhaust manifolds. I have a gen3r I'm gonna swap on same everything same size pulley (gonna need 93+boostane because with this pulley the gen3r will prob see 20 psi) I should be well over 700 to the tire. These things have no problem making power. I could top 700 on just pump gas but I'd have to run a 2.8 that is the smallest recommended pulley for 93 according according vmp. The factory manifolds and twin 65 cj tbody will def hold back its potential but it should easily be well over 700 to the tire. A gt500 regaurdless of year between 07-14 is more reliable at north of 700 than a gen 1 coyote. Their safe cutoff is below that. Coyotes are awesome but these gt500s can be powerhouses with the right mods. They were making big power years before the coyote even existed. It's a low compression setup so it needs more boost to see these numbers vs a high compression coyote with all the fancy tech. Two totally different cars that can make big power totally different ways.

    Cool take on your cars! I almost the same, except i got a 2014 3.7 as a daily driver with my 07 Gt 500 (and both black). I've taken 4 long road trips with the 500 and total miles is 40k. I actually get more taunts to race when driving the 3.7 than the 500 :) But thats ddriving, 500 on road trips don't mess with me. Young bucks luv it. Don't sell yer cars if ya like them.

    A GT will always be just that no matter what you do to it. That GT won't get you into a Shelby event. I have a 07 Red Stripe ( BLK w Red Stripes) package GT500 sent back to VMP and upgraded to Gen.3 with all 2013 Mods in 2013. It will destroy a GT and most Shelby Gt 500's and they are 373 6 speeds by the way in the 07. At the end of the day I would rather have an 07 GT 500 in the garage than a 07 Mustang GT ( Boring). The upgrades did cost 23+k in 2013 but well worth it. Most 15yr old Mustang GT's are refrigerators or washers and dryers now, Just saying not to mention production #'s,, mine is 144 of 168 made ( How's that GT sounding now?). The 07 Shelby GT500 is the deal of the century and its kind of common sense really if you do a little " DD " Good video Donny and sell the cookie cutter GT and buy another 07 Shelby for the love of God Man!!

    You actually want BJ McCarty (Venomous Tuning) out of Florida to tune your car. He is the best in the business for these. I think he used to work for VMP and then went out on his own since he was the guru. I heard bad things about certain tuners that work at VMP. Where are you putting your gauges? I put my Boost and AFR gauge in the center vents. Looks really good and only had to drill a small hole in the air duct for the boost tube. I found the gauge holders on Etsy. Mine is the same color and everything. Love it :D

      Hey Biff, thanks for the info on BJ. This was a customer car at the shop and kept everything looking original on the inside so we put the wideband in the glovebox since it was just used for tuning.

  • @midnight347
    @midnight347 Před 2 lety +2

    You can't make more power in a gen 1 coyote vs a 5.4 gt500 with similar mods. Fbo can get you to 600 rwhp in a gt500 and with a blower swap you can make 800 rwhp...more than a gen 1 coyote is capable of. Even gen 2 coyotes can't really make more than these gt500s their safe limit is about the same. With minor bolt ons and gears the shelby wakes up like a sleeping giant. They have no problem feeling peppy with simple mods. Intake pulley exhaust tune gear and a sticky tire it will walk most coyotes. If it's a forced induction coyote you can simply swap the blower (much cheaper vs a full kit since already supercharged) on the gt500 and match anything that coyote can do. Idk why everyone thinks coyotes are so superior to the old gt500s. The 5.4 gt500 ecspecially 07-09 was very restricted from the factory and you you easily pick up more than 150 rwhp with bolt ons. Blower swap and you can nearly double the stock hp level reliably. Yes a mild modded coyote can prob take down a stock gt500...They're not even that far apart stock vs stock. However once they're both running bolt ons the gt500 has the advantage. They really wake up alot. With a gen3r you can easily top 700 to the tires on pump gas but you gotta have the proper supporting mods throttle body and intake etc. People have made 700 with the 2.3 the gen3r can easily acheive that on pump gas. Well above that with some boostane or e85. I paid 16500 for my bolt on 07 with 100k that is less than what gen 1 coyotes go for. I'll take the gt500 any day. They have no trouble competing with coyotes with the right mods and driver behind the wheel.

    • @Snipedkill1016
      @Snipedkill1016 Před 2 lety

      He's talking mostly stock vs stock. You can mod anything to be faster, then you have to compare the money in it. The 5.0 is a very good motor, and the Boss 302 Roadrunner is probably the best engine for supercharging since it's a forged engine, unlike the standard 5.0. I had a modded GT500 and now have a stock Boss 302 and the Boss 302 is still faster due to the weight advantage. If I had to choose between a standard GT though I'd take the GT500

    All of these modifications kill the resale value. 20 years from now if you have one that hasn’t been destroyed it will be a miracle. Same thing people did in the 1960s now is super hard to find a matching number LS6 Chevelle. Or a matching number 440 six pack road runner.
