Funny enough, as a massive petrol head all my life I would actually consider this Bentley as a 3rd or 4th car knowing exactly how it'll be like to own and maintain whereas the Toyota....nah.
there was a leak that toyota is working on a prius GRMN based on the plugin version (6.5s), which the le mans prototype seems to confirm. the crazy thing is GRMN is supposed to be even more sporty than GR. I dont think its going to be sportier than a GR yaris or corolla though
the le mans prototype look sick IMO, a prius GRMN with 250-300 hp, eAWD, body kit, exhaust and a manual mode sounds sweet! if they did put the RAV4 prime powertrain that thing would be legit quick. RAV4 prime is 5.7s, with 900lbs/20% weight reduction and less drag it could be 4.5s, but I think its going to be just a tuned version of the 2.0l, hopefully with also a boost for the electric powertrain

The trouble is it’s not even just the regular 1500-2000 repairs that you will need to do. With a luxury car of this age, if something major goes wrong it can cost more than the purchase price of the car. A few years ago I looked at Mercs or Beemers that were around 4-5 years old because I liked the look of them and they were still in decent condition. My dad had a 30 year old Bentley about 25 years ago. The conclusions at the end of this video were on point. It was an amazing vehicle, wholly unreliable, and expensive to maintain.
Yeah i think nobody would pick the Bentley if they knew the costs for keep it running :D
They are not unreliable if you maintain them... And they are not expensive to maintain either in relation to their segment. You cant expect them to cost the same as some silly toyota maintenance wise...
Your father should have not bought one apparently since the target for these cars is not people who cares about maintenance costs. They wouldnt even give it a tought.
My boss has a 12 years old flying spur with around 100k miles thats never left him on the road. But of course, he follows the maintenance schedules, every 5000k or 6 months, and does proper full inspections by Bentley and always replaces every bit of hardware that he is recommended to replace.
And the experience is fantastic of course. He doesnt even need to lift a finger and gets to choose either to be personally chauffered or getting a bentayga or a continental as a replacement parked at the front of his house. Thats the bentley experience, and thats why they sell thousands of them even though the low level populace thinks of them as unreliable.
In fact, I dont even think they want those cars to be reliable when driven on a budget. They wont make money out of poor people driving them and Im not even sure they want poor (or lets say average) people to drive them. It devaluates the brand and its exclusivity. Its easier to sell these cars to vain millionaires with promises of exclusivity and uniqueness.

The new Prius gets better gas mileage than my motorcycle. That's pretty impressive honestly. I guess Toyota is trying to get around that stigma by improving the looks and just blowing anything else out of the water with mpgs.
Motorcycles may be more efficient because of the weight, but there's still aerodynamics. Cars were originally designed like a horse carriage with a motor, then moved on, while motorcycles and bicycles are still stuck with the horse riding design. Once motorcycle manufacturers do something about it, the efficiency will skyrocket. With a complete motorcycle redesign, who knows maybe they'll also become safe enough to ride without gear
Yeah my FJR when I ride for max mileage in town I get about 40-41MPG. I wonder if they are quoting highway when they gave the numbers for the prius.
@@gmailisaretard Nah, the Toyota website says 57 city, 56 highway. I'm a bit surprised at the highway number, honestly. The city mileage was a given for me since the Prius tends to only use the electric motors at low speed and low throttle, so driven conservatively, it gets great city mileage. Still hasn't dulled my hate for them, though lol
I sold my motorcycle when I got a Chevy Volt. Now with my Tesla, it's a no brainer.

Do an episode where you give all the hosts a budget to pick a new daily, and them make them defend why they chose what they did, and then talk about what they would do with it in the future to make it even better.
I've similarly thought there ought to be a game-show-like challenge "will it daily," where the hosts challenge each other to daily fairly absurd vehicles for a week, the only rule being that it must be street legal. Even just a lot of the stuff they've reviewed on the show, like the Ukranian off-road machine, Jay Leno's 100-year-old electric car, this Bentley (with everything breaking), and so on. It sort of feels like the Top Gear hosts ending up in some rather absurd vehicles for their road trip challenges, the most recent one being a great example, especially Captain Slow in the Crosley and "Titties 'n Beer". This would all be rather silly rather than serious, a low-budget-daily challenge could be interesting. Though I get the sense other car channels that focus on "what is the most reliable, best value car you can buy for $XXX" would probably address that better.

Fun to pitch vastly different cars against each other. For a while I was worried they'd go with their silly comparisons and ignore reality of the expensive broken stuff, but at the end they came to their senses. The Bentley might be the better car to drive on the weekends, certainly the better car to show off, but the Prius is the better car to own, live with, put gas in, and maintain/fix. Though I admit I've personally gone the other way, I sold the 2007 Prius in favor of dailying my classic Beetle. But the Beetle is a lot more practical than a Bentley (window regulator doesn't cost $1,300, and it doesn't even have power steering to break), while the Prius had over 300k miles on it and I worried was a financial time bomb if the traction battery went out versus the Beetle I can fix everything on myself and parts are cheap. Plus, having both, I found that I usually drove the Beetle and left the Prius in the driveway or offered it as the family loaner car.
The Beetle is so light that it doesn't need power steering. The drawback of the Bentley being built like a tank, is that you _need_ power steering.
@@ValleyOakPaper Yeah, parking that thing without power steering sounds like a royal pain. The Bug I've never felt like I needed it unless the tie rods were worn out or tires low, but as long as everything is in working order I've never felt it lacking. The good part of that is that I never have had a problem with the power steering and never will. Same goes for the radiator, cylinder head gasket, window switches or wiring, brake booster, power locks, water pump, catalytic converter, or a long list of other systems. Can say the same about the A/C, but in this scorching summer I'm sort of wishing I did have that. I've also never had the check engine light come on (though weird noises, misfiring, or lack of power have served the same function). While many think I'm crazy to daily that thing, the more time that goes on the more I realize it's actually extremely practical. Tonight a friend was complaining about struggles with getting her car fixed by a dealer, she envied that I could just fix everything myself.
@@quillmaurer6563 Are there after market AC systems that actually work? Because AC is only going to get more important over the years.
@@ValleyOakPaper Yes, I've seen people with Bugs rig up both aftermarket kits and some have even managed to make the factory-option A/C (rare but it existed) work. Those wouldn't work on mine as I have a turbo setup that would be in the way of how they are set up. There are electric ones I've read about, but I don't know how good they are. To do that I'd probably need to upgrade the alternator, possibly even rig up my own using the guts of a higher-rated modern car alternator in the Bug's housing. It's a struggle on the Bug though, as it puts a significant extra load on the not very powerful engine, and does so during the hot weather when the engine is already struggling with heat. But eventually it might be necessary, with record-breaking heat waves every year. I've certainly noticed it being more unpleasant over the years, probably both because it's getting hotter and I'm getting older and thus less tolerant of it.
Yeah I also had a brand new Peugeot 208 and preferred to drive my 15 year old Seat because it wasn't as numb. Compared to a Bentley I'd pick the Prius any day, but a more sensible old car is way more interesting

While that a/c test was so close its pointless, it's possible that some refrigerant has leaked out of the Bently over the years.
Nah, just cooling a convertible with its roof down is pretty pointless.
It really was a bogus comparison
British cars used to have a reputation for having weak air conditioning. Makes sense, given that England is a cold and wet country. Arab oil sheiks would buy Cadillacs because they had industrial-size air conditioners that could keep up with the desert heat.
Yeah, the only way that test would have been valid in any way is if they had done an evac and recharge on it. There is no way that the refrigerant level is correct after 30 years, sealed high-pressure systems aren't a perfect seal.
Meanwhile, that Prius just rolled out of the factory with a perfect charge.
This felt like a paid ad for the Prius
But the Focus Group was against the prius 😅
I live in Albuquerque and have seen a good number of these new Prius. Everyone loved them for the power and many love the gas range. You can almost go from here to Vegas in a single tank of gas due to the high gas milage. I do hope other companies follow this route with cars. Even making budget cars again that is like the Prius.
Unfortunately americans really dont buy small cars in high enough numbers to justify developing them. 70% of cars sold in 2022 in the USA were trucks/suvs. There's a very stupid reason for this and it has to do with "light truck" exemptions in regards to federal regulations. If a manufacturer can get a car designated as a light truck then it can skirt a bunch of safety/mileage requirements which means it's cheaper to buy. This has lead to americans overwhelmingly buying trucks/SUVs which are horrible for the environment and cost a ton of to maintain.
Manufacturers are pulling small vehicles out of many markets. Like Ford recently ditched the Fiesta because it's sales weren't high enough to justify refreshing the model and they already have the Focus. Other small cars, like Fiat and whatnot, have abysmal sales figures in the US.
For places like the US, where nearly all vehicles are massive, it creates a fast race to the bottom where people don't feel safe driving a small vehicle because you have Cletus in his Ford Fuck-450 tailgating you and Karen with her 3 kids in their Yukon swerving around the lanes cuz she's on her cell phone. Also everyone's headlights blind small vehicles.
@@CRneu Manufacturers build what their customers will buy. Americans chose crossovers and trucks. We don't want tiny little cars. We have lots of space and big roads so we don't need tiny little cars. If you don't feel safe driving a little car, that's a hint to join everyone else and buy something bigger and safer. Bigger vehicles are safer for the occupants.
@@bwofficial1776 bigger vehicles are not safer and no data shows this. The data shows they are safe if against one another. But a SUV hitting a pickup? Sure both will survive but with injury. A car against a car? Same thing. And not everyone wants bige cars. If you notice there's many small cars on the roads. And the reason they are older is due to how expensive they are becoming. Vehicles have become inexpensive. No one can afford them anymore. With this, and the only option is to really by a SUV is another reason for them being so popular. Companies have forced this so they make more money. It's easier to see SUVs because they prove sedans about the same even tho they are nowhere near equal in price. There's a lot wrong with the auto market in this country. And the mentality is also messed up and backwards. Also proves no one cares about the public Transit system even tho it's needed.

Thats a good advice for people getting a 1st car is get one that is reliable that can get you from point A to point B and knowing your budget if you can afford parts for it in the near future or at least if the parts are still in stock for older vehicles
That" GOD DAM" Was so perfect 😂😂😂😂
This is the problem within old expensive cars. They maybe cheap to buy but the maintenance is still expensive even for things like tyres and brakes that are things you will need to change regularly depending on how many miles you do. Like in this episode things broken and they aren’t cheap to replace. But still a great episode 👍🏻
Yeah, maintenance is going to add up quickly.
This made me think of Depreciate Ty Hoovie and more on his mechanic Mr. Mr. Wizard and Wife.
Scraps not for heaps.
Yeah there's a common saying that there's nothing more expensive than an old cheap car lmao, especially if it's from a luxury brand
Parts like window regulators are very likely borrowed from one of the sister companies and can be bought for cheap as they are probably being used in multiple cheap cars. Same goes for a lot of items on the old luxury cars. The cost of ownership would be more but not by a lot if the owner likes working on their own car to fix basic issues. But I agree with James and Nolan that the prius is definitely the obvious choice for a daily car which you can depend on.
Depends, old mercedes opel are cheaper than old Toyota to maintain but Bentley is another level.
Decent cars perform way better with budget tires than budget cars with premium tires.
I feel like more people would chose the Prius over the Bentley if you reminded them about the maintenance cost or even cost to fix the window lol
Donut deserves their own TV show, they could replace the OG Top Gear.
WoW! That's a crazy camera setup back their in the Prius, imagine cameras in 5 more years
This is some old school Top Gear stuff, and I am here for it.
11:26 should have put the Prius in "Power Mode".
'fastest Prius ever' vs 'the guvnah' SENT ME
the "focus group" of totally not actors was a nice touch. also james you parked to close to the curb lol
Need to budget an extra 35k just for maintaining the Bentley, would love one since it's the last real Bentley ever produced
No such thing as a 'real' Bentley
Finally made the 1 minute pit crew
Can I join the crew?
I remember mid 2000’s hopping in my convertible shirtless after leaving the top down on a hot summer day. You never forget that pain.
That Bentley is totally awesome. Hope it turns up again in some more videos! Maybe a road trip?
no way its gonna make it through the whole thing hahah! so that means they gotta try it, lol
It would actually be hilarious seeing them fix massive engine failures on a road trip to Chula Vista 😂
The cost of maintenance on the Bently makes it a hard pass for me
it’s sad that the yellow Prius isn’t sold in the US
bro got the TF2 Sniper voice line
Just amazed the Bentley's AC still works which is pretty impressive! As to which I want to own versus drive well that answer is simple!
Why is that impressive?
@samuelwilliams3130
It’s a British luxury car dude. It’s a wonder it didn’t fall apart Looney Tunes style while they were driving it.
@@samuelwilliams3130Considering that the window and power steering had failed the AC would be another frequent source of failure for an old car .
@@theshowmaster3836 in 1996 the engines and most of the components were being supplied by BMW. The styling and finish were British, but the bits that make it work were German engineering.
@@EvilGavYeah the fact that they are bmw parts is almost worse than if Bentley made them. Bmw is notorious for producing crap plastic and rubber parts that constantly fail. Bmw is the one German car company I avoid like the plague.
I actually saw a new Prius driving around on the road yesterday. And I can’t believe I am saying this but it looked really good.
Largest parallel parking space I’ve ever seen. Could drive into that
Let’s see who wins a safety and cost of ownership comparisons
I feel like if you mentioned the $1300 window part that may have changed a mind or two
.....and the power steering failing on a car that size.
10:45 Did y’all clarify this would be to replace your existing car ? I’m thinking in their head they answered from the perspective of it being a secondary vehicle. I can’t imagine they’d pick that as their daily driver over a new Prius
Ok verified
@@jhypyro lol wut
was that a Honda ridgeline in the parallel park test shot? Nice 👌
Earlier model Priuses looked ACCEPTABLE. This new model looks AMAZING
The old ones looked better
Loving the style of the graphics in this video! Brings a old video game feel to the video ❤
the new prius honestly has a great design
Cars getting closer and closer to Cyberpunk styled cars. And I don’t mean from the game, I mean by how angular and sleek the designs are.
" Run my card "" 🤣🤣🤣 That's my answer
Awesome content guys, keep it up
Even as a lifelong car enthusiast, the new Prius is tempting. I may even consider one of them in next couple years tbh.
Okay now that Bentley to Prius transition was slick as lightning!
“I see it as an opportunity” …….yeah to go completely broke trying to maintain it lol
that 335is at 3:44 is stupid clean oh my
9:20 hahaha i love this kind of car show.... i already drive a Prius and I like to spend my breakfast/lunch watching donut compare a Prius to a Bentley... great content! Next I would like to see a race between these two similarly priced vehicles!
Maybe save for the next EPISODE!
You guys! I love how you improved the editing of the video! Nice work!
