  • This one was a long time coming. There wasn’t proper access to the outdoor unit so it had been down for around 2 months while ladders and railings were installed.

I used to get my 2 extension ladders to get those condenser until WORKSAFE told me I can’t use them anymore 🤷 I’m glad my client build a access to those units coz nobody wants to the PM on their aircons 😜

Thank god for UC8s these days

I reckon it may be that board, those two black cylinders are capacitors. Black top on them is just a cover but the top of them should be flat. Those look to have a definite bulge in them.
If you take a Stanley knife to the top and cut that top cover off the capacitors, it should be pretty obvious if they're bulged. Same as a run cap, when they're cooked it won't hold a steady voltage on the output and will cause issues with the blower.
I'd definitely recommend replacing that board before the fan motor (if those caps are bulged), or both. You could swap the caps if you're feeling adventurous too, usually hard to get ones that big locally though.
    Good video as always!

It didn’t cross my mind to check the capacitors on the board, but looking back at the video they do look bludged. When I go back I’ll cut the top cover off just to have a look. Thanks for the advice mate! Appreciate it.
We’re going ahead with replacing the board and fan motor.
      Thanks mate 🤙

@@hvacraustralia All sweet man! I find whenever there's some whacky or intermittent electronics issues the capacitors on the PCB are the first place to look (apart from skid marks).
Sometimes those plastic top covers get a domed appearance to them but you can tell pretty easily by pushing on the top as well. Those ones in the video seem to have a more distinct point in the center.
Usually see it more on the smaller caps further down on the board, less on those big mains filter caps. But either will cause issues.
Hope the new drive swap isn't too painful haha

Had one of these cards fail on a small PAC unit on an after hours call, had a spare on site thankfully they are pretty simple to change out.

Hey mate. Just curious if you where able to download that PDF online or whether you had to get it through tech support?
Im my experience, fault finding ACs is much more striaght forward with the right information but finding the information is the hard part 😂
    Great content as always.

Hey mate. I can’t remember the specific PDF you’re referring too, but for everything Temperzone I use both the service manuals available on their website. The 2016 version is great for UC6-UC8’s. The latest has good information on their most recent stuff.

Thanks mate. I’m not sure why I didn’t put a photo of the chat in the video, but if you google “Temperzone OUC operation” you’ll see the document that has the temp/resistance information I used.

Hello, I am a factory worker in South Korea. I'd like to get some advice from you. Do I need a specific degree or certificate to work as a HVAC Technician in Australia? If necessary, what is it?

Hey mate. Yes, we do a 4 year apprenticeship get a Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at the end of it. Once we have an employer they will send us school to complete the course. It’s a big process but worth it. Hope this helps mate.
