Paying with cash is always the quick and easiest way to go, saves you the headaches and of having to worry about payments and interests. I'd want to get an RV and with all the necessary amenities and also saves you paying thousands in rent when you can use that to put a down-payment on a house, buy a cheap car and live within your means while saving shit ton of money. While others are blowing their money on traveling, cars and other expensive shit and falling into debt, you on the other hand have the comfort of knowing your way ahead of the game saving up thousands of dollars for the future because we all have retire one day and unlike the others you have a big pool of money to fall back on

Same as lotto winners. Very few make sound financial decisions. Decades ago the apprentices at Dawson (then TDM) mine had production bonus held in trust until they completed the trade. 60 % pissed it away, 40% turned it into multi million properties.

G'Day Keithy, good advice for young players there. I'm at the other end of my working life ( worked for 50 years so far) and apart from business related borrowing I preferred to pay cash and live within my means. and ive done okay too. I did fancy buying a very cool boat however my wife is no dill and not keen. From my years in the motor trade she learnt that owning a Range Rover generally meant poverty so encouraged me when I considered getting the P38. She knew that once I got that Id never be able to afford a boat :) Getting stuck into the mods on it again next week in between customer jobs. Cheers Mate, I'll get some pics etc up somewhere as I progress.

Only thing with the stock market at present I could add is for people just starting out - be careful investing in these times - the US is printing Trillions of dollars - Trillions. They cant do this forever and at some point their debt market will implode and make the GFC seem like someone lost $20.
Just be careful and only put in what you are happy to lose.

      G’day again mate!
I knocked that answer over in the other comment you made, but I’ll touch on it again here.
The mines will pay for your accomodation and meals while at work. The exception is if you are working as a contractor. Some contractors stay in the near towns to the mines, and some food costs may not be covered, however, they cover accomodation.
If you get into the mining game, remember to keep your nose clean and live within your means - think about how you’d pay the bills if you lost your job.
      Good luck mate!

      Joe earns 120k p/a
Joe has a property debt of 500k, a boat loan of 35k, a brand new KTM on finance at 15k, and he just bought his wife a new Subaru, and himself a new 300 series Land Cruiser (both total 150k).
Joe can manage that debt while he’s earning his wage, and is expecting a pay rise in 2023, so he’s looking to upgrade the boat.
OH NO! Joe lost his job! What a great time, because the mining industry happens to be down at the time. What’s he going to do?
Joe now has to sell all of his fancy stuff because unfortunately he couldn’t afford the freedom to save a few bucks “just in case”, and the bank are cranky that he’s behind in his mortgage repayments.

Hey mate, as someone that moved up to Karratha last year - Most cleaner/kitchen work you'll find will be with a company such as Sodexo or Programmed (at least in my experience). Programmed just took over the Woodside (North West Shelf Project - Oil & Gas) and I believe Sodexo is the contractor for Rio Tinto.
The money won't be as good in these specific roles at least from what I've heard from people (and most of them hire locals or relocate you). Ideally truck driving, security and other non-specialised jobs would pay you more.

      @TryABaconSlice Před 2 lety +1

I work as a geo for one of the big companies and yes, the money is very good when compared to other opportunities with my degree. In saying that, if you dont have a true interest in geology/geoscience and are just chasing money then you are better off getting qualified in a trade which can be carried over to mining.
For example, an electrician or boilermaker gets paid as an apprentice, and can fairly quickly end up making more than a geo in FIFO.
To put that in perspective, you pay upwards of $60,000, while making no money, to get a degree and a job as a geologist, while an apprentice makes ~70k a year to get qualified and then jumps to a ~150 - 200k salary as an experienced FIFO sparky, boilermaker, etc.
Just my 2 cents, i dont regret my path as uni was fun as hell and im on good money doing something i find very interesting but it is certainly not the way to go
