    This is and will forever be the most underrated but also unknown great and best movie. The passion, the culture, the truth the movie speaks. The fact it is also based on true events aswell... but instead of an American soldier it was actually a French soldier.

      It surprises us how there's so much wisdom and beauty packed in this movie and yet it's seriously underrated.

    Truly a beautiful movie that provides perspective in living. Difficult days for all now, perhaps even war, but let us never forget our humanity

    The same way we treat with our Indian culture ...British taught us that wearing British cloths are modern ,all our ancient text is waste..the Last samurai movie taught us to respect our ancestors and culture

      Indeed. They have messed up many cultures and religions under the name of "Civilization".

      @@brianking1921 People err, even the best of them. All we can do is learn from their wisdom + their mistakes.
      We'll always go left and right from the balance. I guess the goal in this life is to play our part in restoring the balance. Once restored, someone from among us would again mess it up and the cycle goes on.
      But the Samurai lived with the balance for quite a good time. And that is something worth looking up to.

      The British taught you your history lol you wouldn't know who Ashoka was if not for the British. You wouldn't be able to read the Brahmi script or even know about the Indus Valley. Show some respect

    I don't know where you're getting your historical information from, but it was the US that opened up Japan with force.
    Japan had trade with the Dutch for a long time, and they helped smooth out delegations and treaties that push Japan to modernize with the rest of the world.
    Up until the restoration of the Emperor, the country was ruled by the Shogunate and the Samurai class that controlled the country with an iron grip. Trains and new technologies meant serfs and peasants didn't have to live under the abussive control of their lords. The samurai who fought against change were the ones that wanted to maintain their status, subjects, including slaves. These rebel samurai also used guns and other technologies, and had no issue adopting them.
    The difference is that the Imperial army was now made of volunteers, both peasant and samurai, who believe in the restoration of the Emperor and modernization of the country.
    That's a brief summary. The movie is amazing, not knocking it, but it's hilariously inaccurate.

    @RaageShajar - It's curious that you single out the British for "selling" progress. Civilisations have been doing that ever since the first social groups developed on the planet. Go to ANY continent and look at the history of its people ... you'll find the same. In India, Egypt, America, France, Spain, China, Persia, Japan, Asia. All are equally "guilty".

    • @Athleticorner
      @Athleticorner Před rokem

      You are right, all the civilizations have been doing this.
      In the movie, the story revolves around the crimes of British people. So, wouldn't it be weird if someone started writing about the crimes of Pharoahs of Egypt while giving a summary of The Last Samurai?

    The Sam urai is humbled with arrogance. Where does the samurai worship in the church of RA? Let's call it the Golden child.
