Very interesting video and I like how you explain everything and why it works or doesn't.

Good stuff, brother. Great idea, especially if you know you’ll be moving relatively soon.
(Maybe a down angle into the grow bag while you’re working the substrate around the root ball would be helpful to your demo, just a suggestion)
I appreciate you sharing, brother. I’ve got some burlap around here, I think I’ll give it a shot.

That's a good idea, I'll try to keep it in mind for the next one. Let me know how your project goes!

Im trying this is an apartment, I want trees for my shade flower bed and got a really crappy one from Home Depot, so I’m hoping in-ground will help the tree recover better than in a container

Thanks for the video. Do you ever keep them in the grow bag without planting in the ground? Thoughts on this? I’m wanting to do some containers but not wanting to purchase expensive pots as of yet. Wondering if I should use some of their native soil which is clay here in charlotte

Thank you. You might try mixing a little of the native soil with the recommended mix, but I definitely wouldn't use it if I didn't have to. Really need better drainage. At least for japanese maples, I don't think I'd leave them out all winter in a grow bag. But you could place the grow bag inside a larger plastic nursery pot and insulate with some leaves or plastic, that should work.
