Hello John! I’m a Whiskey Shed subscriber and I first would like to say thanks for not only great reviews but I love the history you give on the products you review! My Irish whiskey enjoyment started when my wife and I went to Madison Square Garden in NYC USA, for a concert. But before the concert I wanted a jolt of tequila. So I stopped in an Irish bar in Times Square and asked a nice Irish accented bartender for a shot of Padron tequila. He looked at me and said “please try a shot of Irish whiskey, and if you don’t like it, You don’t have to pay for it.” So I said “why not.” He then poured and I drank. I looked at him , he looked at me and we both smiled. I reached into my pocket and payed him the $14 it cost. Before I left I asked him the brand he poured me. It Powers Irish Whiskey! I’m still enjoying Powers as well as Green Spot till today!
Just picked one up for St. Patrick day. I love powers gold.
Love this Irish Whiskey!! Fabulous video!! Thanks so much!!
Nearly finished my second bottle of this great whiskey!!!
Awesome review! Love your style and concise information!
This is back to 30 again in Tesco Ireland. Just opened a dram along to your review. Love the banana off it. Spiciness is well balanced
Well done. Great preamble on the quality of available whiskey in the past. While it’s easy to get nostalgic, there was a lot of awful (and sometimes dangerous) product which was sold as “whiskey”. We live in very fortunate times indeed to have many good options readily available on the shelves.
Thanks for the review. Got a bottle tonight for $70 in Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada. It's about $20 less expensive than Green Spot, which I have been really enjoying lately.
On the first nose, I was really interested. After the first sip I thought it was not as nice as Green Spot. After the third sip, I'm really glad I bought this!
Your reviews are really enjoyable. Easily my favourite on CZcams. Ontario just received their first batch of Powers Gold Label. I believe I bought the provinces first bottle. Absolutely delicious. I feel like like I’ve missing out on this liquid heaven my entire life. Watching your Three Swallows Review just make me angry that I don’t live in Ireland.
so glad to have stumbled across your channel...enjoy the story and history behind the whiskey....good stuff
Cheers Philip
Long time bourbon drinker starting to play around in the Irish Whiskeys. Been following your woodworking channel for a while but just figured out that you have a whiskey channel. Both are great, but I think the whiskey channel is better! Loved this one and I really like this Powers whiskey! Thanks!
Sounds nice John!!!
For the Money there’s none better.
Sounds delicious! Nice review.
bought a bottle of the three swallows today, loved it
Love the review, just grabbed a bottle of this for Paddy's day, can't wait to try it
Hope you enjoy it!
Again Mahalo for the great review on all the different POWERS Pours and definitely watching other Irish CZcamsrs...Man a lot of them are very up in the air with the rebranding, the notes are not like the notes of yester years so other ppl on CZcams are quiet upset. For me, as a new enthusiast in this DEEP Whisky Rabbit Hole. I love the controversy from outside looking in...From Hawaii I am so so happy I found the one last POWERS Gold Label at a very well known retail liquor establishment...and again it was superb, a sweet Irish Whisky compared to a Jameson Triple Distill...I love my POWERS. in a few days at my Christmas Party, I had some good friends who I called my Sommeliers because they had many times over tried to introduce me in their world of whisky, inviting me to these Bourbon/Scotch Pour parties. I used to pour Coca Cola into 5k neat pours......Never invited again....Well, with your awesome reviews and historical tid bits, the roles have be changed. I am now the sommelier not only in American Bourbons, Scotch and Irish, along with pairing with another new founded rabbit hole....CIGARS.....Mahalo again Sir...
my boyfriend offered to buy me a nice glass of something while we were at the Irish pub. I asked for the John's lane because of your videos. was not disappointed! :)
Glad you liked it!
John I’m going to try and find a bottle of this over in England.
And see what I think and I might even give my dad a bit and my father-in-law to see what they think as their whiskey drinker .
Love listening to these whiskey shed . Cheers
It's good stuff
Tried this for the first time today. Wow for me at the price i paid (€46) it stands up against the redbreast 12. Really get the unmalted barley biscuity smell and its just bursts with orange and peppery flavours..so comforting
It's one of my favourites at this price, hard to beat.
Just grabbed a bottle today! Thanks for making this
Hope you enjoy it!
Happened upon this video, and then immediately got a bottle of the Powers Three Swallow for just North of 40 USD here in Lincoln, Nebraska...and I love it--thank you for sharing! As someone who found Redbreast 12-year at a regional grocery store about a decade ago, and has tried to evangelize it ever since (given that, around here, most peeps equate "Irish Whiskey" with just the base expressions of Jameson and Bushmills), this is a welcome compadre. Definitely going to purchase this again.
I also see that you're planning to review some bourbons in the future. My in-laws hail from Western Kentucky, and every year or so when we make the trek out there, I find myself in a small liquor store with hundreds of small batch bourbons (some so young, they're barely past moonshine). I agree that Maker's Mark doesn't really hit the mark, as it were (though always a good mixer). I suggest hitting up the following someday if you're able to:
Four Roses Single Barrel
Basil Hayden's
Johnny Drum
Jim Beam Black (actually makes a great take on a Hot Toddy/Hot Whiskey)
Elijah Craig
Good luck, and thanks again!
Cheers Neil I'll try them out!
Nice, I was hoping you would do this one as well!
HI John! I love you reviews! They have helped me understand Irish whiskeys so much better. Qstion for you- I have a friend going to Ireland in about 10 days, I want to have him pick up some whiskeys for me, preferably something I cant get here in the states. I do like bourbon style whiskey the best, Jameson is good but im not a big smokey scotch drinker. Any suggestions? Locally I can get powers Gold label and im going to try that! LOVE THE BROGUE!
You can pick this up for about £30 in the north recently. Massive fan of it!
Got it tonight at Tesco for that price.
very underrated channel. thx
Glad you think so!
I just tried Powers Three Swallow today and man I agree the best Irish Single Pot Still Whiskey for under $50! I paid $41ish after tax in Texas. Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is my favorite as well even when compared to Bourbon and Scotch. I just couldn't enjoy it as often as I'd like because Redbreast 12 and Green Spot are both $60ish after tax. Now I have a good one at a good price I can enjoy almost everyday after work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Maybe it's time to splurge on a space heater for the Shed? I know it's not insulated but a 1500 watt high efficiency space heater would do wonders in the cold months while you are in there. I have to run a 50 thousand BTU propane forced air heater in my shop here in the frozen north where it's -20C on a good day and -40 on a cool day. All my glues and finishes have to be stored in the house as they'll freeze solid over night if left in the shop without heat on. Another great video on a fine whiskey! Powers Gold Label goes for around $47 to $50 here in my part of Canada. I haven't found three swallows anywhere quite yet.
I have one just need to fix the gas regulator I have left it on the long finger
I would ask for KNAPPOGUE at some time too. My brother loves it. Also, maybe you need a portable heater on behind the bench...lol. That way you get warmed from the bottom up as well as from the top down. :)
You dont need insulation(or a heater) when you got whiskey .....!
Yeah I'll get some it's on my radar so to speak
Good review! My favourite budget whiskey is the Powers 3 swallow. Can't be beaten on flavour at that price point. However one of my all-time favourite whiskeys is the Johns lane, incredible drop for the money.
Trying to get more Irish Whiskey in my cabinet. Unfortunately no Powers available in my province over here in Canada. I'll keep my eyes peeled in the future. I did pick up a bottle of Fercullen on offer without knowing much about it - mind doing a review if you can get your hands on it?
Yesterday I just picked up a bottle here in the States. $39.99. Anxious to crack it open.
Its nice!
A little bit too spicy for me it's why I don't like pot still including redbreast, I like John's lane which is also pot still but seems sweeter. Good review
Defo putting this on the list. Another great review of irish whiskey. On a side note, I've seen peaky blinders irish whiskey in shops recently... is it a gimmick poor whiskey?
I have not tried it yet so I'm not sure
Viewers in Ireland - 3 swallow is 30 quid in Tesco today 1st April!! 33 in supervalu. Get in there quick!
30euro in O Briens as well 👍🏼
Great review! You said it is 40%abv? I have a bottle at 43.2%abv. I wonder if it's abv fluctuates in different markets.
I originally thought is was 43.2% too but on the bottle its 40% so could be a regional thing.
I just got it at Dunnes for forty five quid!
You paid too much. It’s on sale at €30 very regularly in Ireland. Wouldn’t pay more it than that. It’s good but not €45 nice.
I have been a Powers fan for years ...and three swallow is top of the range ......all the Powers bottlings are iconic ...is there a bad Powers out there ...i dont thinks 🥃🥃🇮🇪🇮🇪
Can you do a review of Connemara, love to know what you think of this peated whiskey. Certainly compared to the Scottish Islay whiskys.
Will do
Would you say this or Johns Lane is better? Regardless of price value
John's lane would be a little more complex I would say it's better.
$40 in ohio
Me too. Mine was in the older bottle/box.
Proven fact: If you drink Three Swallow and say "Irish" and "Kentucky" like this dude, you're officially an alpha male.
