If anyone ever wanted to know why "the arcade crash" happened in the 80s, a big part of it was because there were way too many cabinets that didn't amount to much more than what you see here. You're a vehicle or soldier sprite on a scrolling screen and other vehicle or soldier sprites come in from a random direction, then you get shot, explode, and put in another quarter. Eventually people realized most of those games weren't really hiding any more than what you saw in the first 30 seconds, and gave up on all of them for a while. There have always been a steady stream of great arcade games, but there was definitely a shovel-ware period that drowned out some of the greatness and drove people away at the time.

The first known publicly revealed "video game" ever is Bertie the Brain from 1950. It was a digital version of tic-tac-toe and resembled a game show-style "arcade machine" prop about two to three times the size of the player.
Fun fact: the company that developed this version went on to make The Pinball Arcade, a somewhat buggy pinball simulator that has better physics than the pinball game in this game, and still more fun than this.

It's funny watching how Farsight Studios, a company responsible for the amazing Pinball Arcade series, got started with this, and the included pinball game is just horrible, with the ball actually going through the flippers at times!
SNARCast Productions What? TPA is absolutely atrocious compared to every other pinball emulator out there, and those are free. Farsight has the nerve to charge you for fucking camera control ffs.

AAlso, all of those "you are dead" screams in most of the games remind me of the time I got Megarace 3 from some random cereal box and was scared for weeks after I crashed my pod and heard some the most disturbing "game over" sounds.
I find it a bit unnerving with how similar the music and menus in this game look and sound just like "Sega Channel".

Funny that Joel doesn't seem to realize Newgrounds was never exclusively Flash content. It's a forum, a music site, video site, and game site. The games use shit like Unity and HTML5 now, and I suppose this was pre-Newgrounds Player basically saving Flash content, but yeah no, Newgrounds isn't going to die just because Flash did. It's survived this long without selling out to anyone either. They'll be fine.

32:00 Something about Fusion without its bilinear filtering; If you notice, it creates duplicate lines of pixels (in Joel's case, it created 32 duplicate lines). Pressing Alt+0 squishes the screen, which also gets rid of the duplicate lines.

The Genesis version honestly isn't too bad. Very primitive but very playable. Would I had bought it new? Hell no. I was no interested in spending that kind of cash on odd games. This happened to me once, but the difference is that, it was cheaper, on the ps2, and it was a scam. And by a scam, i meant that i bought a game cd (forgot the game) and it turned out to be 30+ games.

If you put the cartridge on top of Sonic & Knuckles, then you will enable to show the Sonic & Knuckles "NO WAY!" screen.
And then press A B C and Start, and you open blue spheres game. Works for every non Sonic compatible title.
