- I'm obligated to mention that Mother 3 is basically my favorite game ever. One of the many reasons why is its fantastic soundtrack. From a selection of over 200 tunes, I narrowed it down to my top 30 picks. There were plenty of awesome ones that weren't able to make this list, so feel free to let me know your own favorites. This video's all about the music, but it should also draw your attention to the superb fan art that the Mother/EarthBound fandom has created. Chances are, there will be more Mother 3 related videos coming from this channel in the future.
A couple trivia facts for you all: two significant dates relating to this game are new years' (when the game's final chapter takes place) and 4/20, the Japanese release date. - Hry

It just boggles my mind that a video game of this quality was not given a worldwide release - in my opinion this is the best RPG Nintendo ever produced, hands down. I first played the English fan translation in 2008 and it touched me deeply, on a fundamental level, much deeper than any game I played before or since. This game is like a great novel - rife with symbolism and open to a wide range of interpretations. I recall the plot and its implications often, and the depth of the themes Itoi wove into his story never ceases to blow me away. This is the closest a video game has ever come to literature, and I would give anything to play another masterfully-written game by Itoi. I know he said he will never make Mother 4, but why not create a new IP?
I 100% agree. It's very sad that so many people couldn't play mother 3. I played it on a gba emulator on pc and it worked great all the way through, the game is breathtaking.
An excellent story based game such as this is, in my opinion, BETTER than literature; video games are the most powerful art medium because their interactivity deepens our connection with the story, allowing the game to give us an emotional punch in the gut in a way novels and movies cannot. It's just that the medium is young and unrespected by many.
Well I think at this point whatever Itoi’s next game would be if he ever had the drive to make one would be mother 4 in name only. There might be consistent elements like the magic, mr saturns, and the kid going on an adventure but mother 3 didn’t leave any loose threads like the first two entries. I think the only way for the next itoi game to be a new IP is if elements like the child on an adventure, the PSI, or maybe the turn based battles went away. That said I think Itoi is done with games. Especially after Iwata’s passing knowing how close those two were.
To be fair, JPRGs are possibly the most difficult games to localize. But Nintendo should've put in the hard yards. Luckily fans have already translated it (and without the restrictions of age ratings or company image) so I'm satisfied.
Not the best RPG, the best game.
When my personal favorite song, Monkey's Delivery Service, is #30 on another person's list... It really shows how incredibly diverse and exceptional the whole soundtrack is. Wow!

Maybe to some, that would seem like an odd choice for number 1, but I perfectly understand. There's something about "Memory of Life" that is absolutely spot on--it perfectly encapsulates the overall tone of the game, dream-like, rather reflective, maybe slightly depressing, but with a bit of what might seem like an uplift at the end. The entire soundtrack has its gems, but that one track... I dunno, it seems to transcend all of them in some way I can't adequately describe.
It's kinda sacred to me. I actually avoid listening to it unless I think the time is right.

I honestly think "Mind of a Thief" should have been at least in the top ten. But hey, it's your personal opinion. At least I'm not posting a 3 paragraph long hate letter about how "Unfounded Revenge" and "Monkey's Love Song" weren't on the list.

"Pollyanna" is my favorite song (not just from a game, I mean overall), and "A Certain Someone's Memories" is my favorite arrangement of it.

Just recently bought a GBA along with a fan translated copy of Mother 3, having fun so far! I'm currently on chapter 4 and so far it has blown my expectations out of the water.

Thank god It is finished is in top 3, thought this song was super unappreciated, and was really glad to see it make it up so high. Hearing the cold music slowly warm up always gets me.

When you began with Monkey's Delivery Service I instantly liked the video. I got into Mother 3 completely from the music, it's amazing.
The image for #1 gives me goosebumps... I've never played the game, but I can still feel the emotion from that song and the picture combined.

I was suprised not to see Unfounded Revenge, I love that song.
Great list anyways!
You got just about everything I'd look for. The only theme I hoped for was unfounded/misplaced revenge. But you got the best of them. Love theme, 16 melodies, it is finished, they all made me wanna tear up at the thoughts of the things I'm unhappy about in life. But they are great themes.
The Real Lucas If I could add one honorable mention, it would be that song/both of those songs (they're so similar anyway)
I think these themes are the last bit of confirmation in my decision. I'm joining the Mother fan base. I have progressed a bit through Earthbound Beginnings, but it's the only Mother game I've played. However, after that, I'll be checking out EB and play as Ness, then I wish for Lucas like everyone else. Although there's Smash Bros, it just doesn't feel enough. But let's not rant here, just enjoy the music and relax.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it back then. Those were satisfying videos to make, since they were all from my most-played games. Mother 3 is the one game I've completed more than any other.

super random, but I've been watching your vids since elementary school ( I'm a sophomore in college now) and you've really inspired me to start my own channel and do my own lets plays , you should definitely come back and do a Lp of mother 3, but if you don't come back thank you for all of the memories :)
That's so cool to read! Always good to see content being created with people genuinely doing their own thing. Lets Plays are a pretty fun hobby, right? Though I was a slow editor splicing the clips together and the quality wasn't too good, I remember how satisfying complete episodes were to upload. I feel a lot of the RPGs I've been playing recently wouldn't be great LP material, but Mother 3 may eventually still deserve its own series for old times sake. Maybe someday!

When this song came out in the video game, it just filled me with determination and it was a sensation to keep playing until the end, it is priceless what I felt, I really liked having played this game :D, even so, it gives me a bit of nostalgia to listen to these songs, and that I played it less than a year ago :'(

y'know, the organ sound in burst-in rock n roll and a part in curtain call sounds like the selection sound.
My all time favorite from this game would have to be Mom’s Hometown. It’s right there in the prologue, when you start as younger Lucas. Whenever I hear it, it makes me sad about how much the world has changed in the game. It makes me think of a simpler time in Tazmily, and I also consider it a sort of theme for Lucas.

You should do more Mother 3 videos. Mother 3 is great, I just wish I could play. I look forward to the day the Mother fanbase has a full victory, and those who cannot play Mother 3 yet get it released for them in their region. Just an announcement of it would be the best thing ever, I'd be so excited, I'd die of impatience if I managed not to get a heart attack from excitement.
I have gone through a little more than half Mother 1 (virtual console), and I loved it. Made me go back to the couple other RPGs I have. I kinda wish I had more great ones like Mother, though it just makes me appreciate those few more. I have only 3 other RPGs (two are of the same series), and I've always loved them. They were great, but Mother tops them both. They tug at your heart, but Mother 3 is the only game that made me cry.

I have two melodies left to get in Earthbound Beginnings. And I got Teddy just recently. I'm in Itoi Caves, and I swear if another Starman uses the death beam (instakill level of PK Beam) I will be angry. Ninten and Ana both have super healing, but it costs SO MUCH. Wish me luck. I might have to return to Magicant a couple times just to avoid the game over.
