While she certainly excels in delivering catchy songs and captivating dance performances, her albums have generally lacked lasting impact.

    She seems to take her music so seriously, but the proof is in the pudding, and the pudding here is pretty bland middle-of-the-road pop music. 🤷🏾‍♂️ The truth is GP just isn’t fussed about new Jennifer Lopez music in 2024. The demand just isn’t there. But still, she ignores the lack of demand and keeps on spending more and more money on big campaigns, glitzy showcases, and high-budget videos for songs nobody asked for…. It feels like she’s screaming “Look at me” and people STILL aren’t paying that much attention.
    I watched her Apple Music live Special. She performs phenomenally well at her age - let’s not forget she’s in her mid 50’s - but It’s awkward to watch when you realise she’s pulling out all the stops and the pop culture reception is still so tepid. It’s certainly not being received as the blockbuster moment she intended, especially given how much time and money was invested.
    You absolutely _can_ have hit records in your 50’s, Madonna (4minutes) & Kylie (padam padam) proved that, but without hits, I don’t see what purpose new JLO music is serving other than being an exorbitantly expensive hobby? 🤔

    • @LD-tn6ff
      @LD-tn6ff Před 3 měsíci +13

      I mean, did Madonna prove that? Her last "big" album was confessions on a dance floor all the way back in 2005. MDNA, Rebel Heart, and madam X were by her standards, somewhat commercial failures, with each consecutive album doing worse than the last. It's virtually impossible for a woman over 54 in pop music specifically to release something to mass critical success to the masses due to a VERY agist industry. Kylie Minogue released one of the best pop dance albums of all 2023 (certainly with the best pop dance song), and still really didn't get the recognition she deserved. If you look into the last 50yo + woman to release an original number one song in pop, you'd be incredibly hard pressed to find one over the course of decades.

    • @cityboy2092

      I respect it. If she's still passionate about making music and performing, why shouldn't she, especially since she's more than willing to cough up the money for it herself? Her tour is selling well, so there's demand to see her onstage, which is how musicians make their money anyway, and the new album/movie basically serve as promotion for that. Her selling concert tickets will help cover expenses a lot quicker than the new album racking up a lot of streams, so it's not a total loss

      She was 49 during Hard Candy and the lead single was a success due to Timberlake and Timbaland both featuring at it and being huge. The other singles failed to be successful and the album until now sold less than a million copies in the US... The last 3 records all "flopped" and she sells less with every album and didn't have a global hit song since 2008.
      Don't get me wrong, I like madonna but the OG comment is right. A woman above 50 has little to no chances to shine in pop music.

    • @AXFN_
      @AXFN_ Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@Philipp19967 I agree that it’s incredibly difficult to sustain popstardom at that age - that’s a fact. But it’s also a fact that the Hard Candy album was released a couple months before her 50th birthday, reached no.1 in 37 countries, sold 4 million copies worldwide, and supported a record-breaking world tour. We can argue about the popularity of the album (I was in the U.K. where the album was popular) but you can’t argue with butts in seats - the demand was there, Madonna was on world tour, aged 50, and sold more tickets than any woman in music …ever: those are the facts. The Sticky & Sweet Tour was the all-time highest-grossing tour by a female artist and held that record for 15 years until The Renaissance and Eras World tours in 2023. Besides, 4M sold doesn’t seem like a flop to me, that’s nothing to sneeze at in your 50s. This JLo album will be lucky to sell even half of that. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    I think jlo is a user.. I mean everyone in Hollywood is to some extent. But I just don’t like the way jlo has used people (Ashanti etc) for vocals , pandering the black community through Rnb esque tracks to give her “coolness , and pandered to the Hispanic community / Latin market (when she can’t even speak Spanish ) to do dance music that would add longevity to her career. She’s a poser tbh

      She speaks some Spanish and is able to do an interview in Spanish. There are others like Demi or Selena Gomez who sing in Spanish and can't even talk anything. Selena just released a Spanish EP without knowing the language. Beyonce also went on the Latina train back in 2005/2006 with a whole EP for example without actually understanding what she is singing

    I think she had some catchy great songs. She’s a lot like dannii minogue. Whereas people like Madonna are defined singers. JLOs strongest field was her early movies. If she’d focused on movies only I think she’d have been far better off. She’s a great actress

    Michael Jackson's "Thriller".....and his sister Janet's "Rhythm Nation 1814" will ALWAYS be the classic, visual album---with a consistent flow. That was Michael and Janet at PEAK level. And although Janet owes her success to her brothers.....at least she didn't sleep her way to the top, like Jennifer Lopez.
    Jennifer got some big, black pipe from Keenen Ivory Wayans....to climb ranks, on "In Living Color". Afterwards, she was briefly a dancer for Janet Jackson (with her fake-ass, cringy "spanish accent"....in the "That's The Way Love Goes" music video). Then, she married a Cuban waiter (Ojani), promised she'd love him forever and starts dating Sean Combs (more black eggplant), in 1998---WHILE SHE'S MARRIED TO OJANI!! Ojani discovers her relationship with Sean, VIA NEWSPAPER AND TV!!
    Once I put the pieces together (about 15 years ago), I was like "Ewwww.....she'll do ANYTHING to rise to power. Lady Macbeth got competition!!" But, of course...she wants us to believe she's a victim, wounded by heartbreak🙄

    People really have to stop with this narrative that she neither sings nor dances, if you see her Apple Live performance she has more energy, precision and commitment than any of the current pop girls, in addition to very good vocal moments. The album works reminiscent of the sound of 2000 and captures it in a very honest way, the film is a mess but in a great sense I don't think anyone's personal story works in a linear way and in that sense of unpressibility it is more honest than many of the musical films released recently.

    When it comes to Jennifer's music career, I looked at it as a "Get In, Fit In" or "Came In At The Right Time" situation. That late 90's Latin explosion was a perfect time to make her musical debut with her being Latina. 2nd her success in music early on was heavily dependent on what's was hot/trendy at that time until 05'. 2011 was a lucky musical resurgence cause of the EDM craze (once again capitalizing off of trends) Now days J.Lo and her team don't know how to make a hit record (especially the industry being drastically different while in a state of confusion as well), they just throw songs out there hoping it sticks. Listeners shouldn't have a expectation for a J.Lo album.

    • @aziatix1168

      Yes. Couldn't agree more. She just always fit in inside the trend and she managed to do so during 1999-2005 and 2011-2016 (however her music in 2006-2010 was still great). Since 2018 she's just struggling and people aren't really interested in her anymore. Her song Cambia El Paso in 2021 was an entire club banger with tropical reggeaton vibe and steamy music video, yet it didn't click.

    What JLo lacks in talent, she more than makes up for in hard work, discipline and effort. Nothing has stopped her from becoming one of the most famous, most successful artists, actor, celebrity on the planet. She has been the first Latina in a lot of things and continues to pave the way. She makes things because she enjoys them and because she wants to. She has never swayed in who she is. And for someone who claims she just recently learned to “love herself” she sure loved herself enough to make all her dreams come true. That’s admirable.

      Hard work? She doesn't even sing on her own albums. What she has is over-exposure and connections because she can't sing and she's a bad actress - there's been literally no improvement in decades which proves that there has been no work put in. If there had been work she would by now have any concept of vibrato, singing with resonance and would have learned vocal runs and riffs - instead she's forever thin, wobbly and unsupported.

    Every middle aged popstar thinks they have to do some boring, inspiring, "this is my life journey" album at this point in their career, and they ALWAYS flop!!

    Jae Stephens actually did background vocals on Rebound, which imo was the best part of the song….

      Katy could have a Cher moment in terms of having a huge hit that spawns interest in a comeback/cements a role as a pop mother figure. Jlo has just been eh and stealing people’s vibes the whole time, so not that she doesn’t have other singers to act off of she’s fading

    JLo's new album is her BEST work. Y'all can sit here and trash her album all you want too when I'm sure most of you haven't even listened to it. Thank you, Jennifer, for giving us an incredible trilogy to indulge. Marvel could NEVER!

    The problem with jlo is her ego, she thinks she's the best above all others which makes her unable to evolve much

    Look… I’m happy for her but This Is Me Now wasn’t good and I’ve been waiting to hear someone else talk about it.
    I don’t know who JLO worked with but the autotune was really bad, and I think the worst part is that no one told JLO that music has changed. All the songs were in traditional song structure as opposed to cutting out the bridges and extra verses (which automatically dated the music)
