  • This week we transitioned our kids from separate rooms to one shared room so that we could put our newest baby in the nursery.

    Room sharing is intimidating so I procrastinated for a long time, but now we need to do it because our new baby would sleep better in a different room a so we were really motivated to do this. These are our tips for putting two young kids in one room, we will probably have more to share after this transition is finished. We found a sound machine to be helpful and we planned for the first few nights to be more tiring than normal.
    Let us know your tips! We would love to hear what has worked for you! Do your babies share a room? Twins? Toddlers? How do you do it?

    My sister and I shared a room from babies right up until we moved out in our early 20's. My mom made sleep seem so easy. I have a baby now. Sleeping kids (or lack there of) is enough to drive someone crazy. I hope everything worked out well! :)

    Hey, not a mom but I am watching all your videos because I really like your personality and your approach to parenting. And as I am kind of early today I thought I might use this opportunity to tell you what I think about your channel! I love that even though your focus is on motherhood, you don't make your kids the protagonists in the videos! Also, can we talk about how you always look pretty and somehow like 21? (Even younger with this beanie!) Do you have a special secret haha? Thanks for making your videos real, but also encouraging and positive! As I said, I am not a mom yet, but I already feel prepared pretty well by your channel :D Keep going! Greetings from Germany!

    If loads of people give advice on having small children share, could you collect them and make a new video with them? I’m about to have a new baby and that one and my current baby (15months older than the new one), will share room and I’m kind of afraid that the older one will hurt the little one somehow by accident 😳😳

    I will be interested to see how it goes with opposite sexes while almost 4 years apart in age with one of them school age with those stressful, exciting experiences that are worlds away from the realm of the toddler with all the attendant emotional upheavals. I cannot imagine this working well. And Eloise will need her own space separate from Wilson more often than not. Twins are an entirely different set of emotional, developmental needs. We don't do room-sharing, but keep their bedroom, study space, play area their own unless in the family room. We keep some things in the family room we can all do together. They are welcome to go to one another's rooms to play something they share an enjoyment of. This works well for us so they can do their own thing, have privacy, bring friends home. They interact in the family room, when appropriate: meal times, after school, needing help with homework, watching movies together. But they have their own place to sleep, have friends over, do homework that requires any concentration, have privacy, be sick, practice their own sleep patterns. It depends what sexes they are and how close in age they are and if they are already being heavily influenced by the outside world, like in daycare, preschool or K-12. We await some good outcomes and advice.

      I shared a room with two of my sisters for almost six years. Our family did not have the luxury of allowing each child to have their own room. Children adapt. I'm not trying to bash you for valuing your children's privacy and giving them that option, but for many family shared rooms are a necessity. :)

    • @philippapay4352
      @philippapay4352 Před 3 lety +2

      @@annarocha3254 She did not ask what we recommend. She asked what we do. I told her what we do. We have very few children, so it is not a matter of luxury. We numbered our children partially by how many we could provide privacy for as well as support financially and have plenty of time for each. I, too, shared a room as a child, as we all did in my family and at times the age and sex pairings were not ideal, but they worked. They had to suffice, as did one bathroom and a tiny kitchen. I was not being stupid or critical. And I had a similar experience to yours in my own childhood in this regard.

      @@philippapay4352 I certainly didn't think you were being stupid. I just wasn't sure if you had considered other options. But it seems that you've had your own experiences that led you to the way you do things with your children and I totally understand. Not bashing. :)
