- We recently weaned my (almost) three year old from his pacifier. This video shows the strategies that worked (cutting holes in the pacifier) and the strategies that didn't work (pacifier fairy & "giving paci away to new babies")

For my son, our goal was to be done with the binky by 2 years old. So a few months before he kept losing them all the time and he had like three and then they were just becoming less and less. One day, it was nap time and he was super attached and felt he needed his binky to sleep and I scoured the entire house looking for it and could not find any of them. And that ended up being that. We told him we couldn’t find his binky and that was okay because he was such a big boy he didn’t need it anymore. I thought it was going to be a big huge process in getting rid of the binky but it ended up being so easy! I was so surprised!
I’m literally in tears watching you cry because I know how it goes 😭❤️
I haven't had the chance to watch your channel in a long time. Wilson is so big!
When I found out I was pregnant with my 'one and done' baby (after a miscarriage with a girl), I really wanted a girl and didn't know how I would ever connect with a baby boy. After watching your channel and seeing little baby Wilson, it somehow made me change my mind before i even found out the gender and all I could see myself having was a baby boy who is going to be one this week :D
I will be honest, I did not connect with him or feel like I loved him at all until just a few months ago and your realness helped me overcome that guilt. Being a parent is hard, especially mentally and emotionally. It took a toll on my identity and mental health. But I realize now, that is just part of the process. At least for me. I'm so glad there is someone like you who is so transparent about motherhood and is so supportive. I'm just so grateful for you.
Im so relieved you shared the emotions you felt for this transition. We are going to start the process in a month and a half and I am already so sad for her, dreading the process of destroying something that brings her comfort at nap and bedtime. For me it's like....the process of growing up involves so much stuff happening that hurts our hearts and I feel like I'm personally responsible for this hypothetical first heartbreak she is going to experience.
I love the idea of this process tho. Making it undesirable instead of just vanishing it from her life. Thanks again for sharing.
I love this so much… I’ve felt so guilty that my son is 2 and a half and we are just working on getting rid of his binky…. I’m going to try the pacifier fairy I think he might bite because of the presents lol!!! ❤️ you’re such an awesome mama and I love that you made a video about this! It’s so hard for us too it really is… 😭 my boy is going on the potty and still has his pacifier it’s like I’m losing my baby in the blink of an eye 😩
I love you Jessica cause you are my soul and heart.
My sister in-law went with my nephew to Build a bear and let him pick a toy, then she cut along a seam and sewed the paci into the new toy while he watched. They made a big celebration of it. So he knows it's there for comfort but it's not impacting his teeth. She's crafty, so that works for her.
Aww Jess, it's so emotional to see them growing and reaching these milestones. My girl is 2 and we went down to only for sleeptime, we did this step cold turkey when she was 17 or 18 months because it was affecting her speech. We have now stopped naptime paci at nursery two days a week, I think the next step would be no naptime paci at home at weekends and the when she's with my sister. And then after that we'll start with bedtimes x
Am have Hannah down for nap time ⏲️
She did not have it last night
She hasn't go on today 😢 😄😄😇
Ok, the passive aggressive praying made me giggle so hard! This video was so helpful overall, because I am deadly afraid of weaning my little boy of his beloved paci and honestly I don't believe he will fall for the paci fairy thing...
Binky fairy, love this! 😅🙏🏽💕
Oh my Gosh, I cried with you as I watched it. This is soo emotional in every way. Thank you for sharing all this, I've got the courage now for doing it with my douther (I guess 😅)
Hannah has still got her dummies am trying take Tham off next year
Could you do a vid on potty training if you haven't already please? ❤️❤️💙💙 I have no idea where to start
Omg you made me cry just watching this because so many feelings. I get it! My 2.5 year old loves her Paci and I'm so scared of starting the weaning process! Did you limit Paci to naps/sleep only before fully weaning?
We tossed my sons chupo (our word for binky) the day after his first birthday. Never had any issues. We were just done with it and he didn’t fuss at all. 🤷🏻♀️ we got lucky I suppose
What a great video Jess!
I need advice on how to stop a thumb sucker. Everyone please comment!
I was a thumb sucker as a kid for EVERRR! My mom eventually got me some book called “my thumb and me” or something along those lines that encouraged me to stop. It literally came with a thumb glove, which sounds crazy, but you put it on before bed so every time you go to duck your thumb it’s not appealing anymore. I truly remember this which is so crazy! Maybe something like that is still around?
I sucked my thumb for way too long and it caused so many orthodontic problems, it pulled the top of my jaw forward, messed up my teeth, etc…! Stay strong, you’ve got this!!!
depends on how big is the kid, but you can substitude the thumb with a paci
I got so emotional watching this 😭 I have a 17 month old who loves his pacifier
Saving this for our turn some day soon 😟
Hi Jessica! Love your content. Any ideas on how to wean from night feedings? My son (16 months) is on formula still because he demands it and cries so hard 😫
One of my best friends just went through that. Her little girl was crying desperately for her formula every night. What worked for my friend: She diluted the formula with more and more water every week (by approx. 10-20% at a time), until it was just water. Her little girl did not complain because it was gradual. After three nights of just a water bottle in the end, she stopped asking for it. If you have time to do this slowly, this might work. Best of luck to you!
there's a pattern about human habits that if you can do without something for 4 days, then you can break the habit. We were giving our son only water during the night after his 3rd month and he used to wake up for less time every other night
I have a 29 month old that is addicted to his pacifier and bottle. I'm still working on it!!
I'm trying with my almost 2yr old. It went well for a week but then she saw her brother (2month old) started with his and she cried for it again. 🤦♀️
I have the same issue. My son turned 2 last month and I have a 7 month old. My 2 year old has never been a huge pacifier kid until probably a year when the molars started coming in. Now he wants it to sleep/naps which I was fine with but during the day he has moved to wanting it then every time he sees his brother with it. I wanted to go cold turkey and throw them all away or have him stay “bye” to them but then he will probably take his brothers.
Ahh bless him
My new 4 month old likes sucking his fingers.
My son actually did bite through all his pacifiers… it was becoming a choking hazard, so I had to cut them. He was so sad, I ended up caving in and giving him a wubbanub that we had in the house. He bit through that one in a couple months, but by that time he had become attached enough to the little toy that he sleeps just fine. He’s 20 months now! His baby brother uses a paci, but so far he hasn’t tried to use it! Praise God!
Not there are not my bay love s her dummies so my nephew said
I think I’m first!!! Yay!!!
Love from South Africa!
