This was a dumb question to start with because no matter what any QB did this year, nobody would say that they have dethroned Patrick.

It will take a minimum of two seasons... even for Lamar, who I agree is best suited to "take the throne" to at least catch up to Mahomes to have this debate.
However, I would offer one exception... either Lamar or Burrow has an outstanding season, and breaks almost every single season QB stat while also going undefeated and winning a Superbowl, Superbowl MVP and league MVP. Burrow would be there (in the discussion of dethroning Mahomes) because of sustained success over the past 3 years (comeback player, lifting a terrible franchise to a Superbowl appearance, back to back afc championship appearances, followed by potential scenario I already listed)... Lamar because of his previous unanimous MVP.
Allen still needs 2 years regardless, because he lacks the equities of Lamar and Burrow.
And unlike Shady, you do have to acknowledge that both Mahomes and Lamar went to good, playoff ready franchises with great established coaches. Allen and Burrow did not have that luxury. Allen at least had a defense while Burrow had a wealth of weapons in skill positions on offense. In some respects it balances out, however there is a distinct advantage that Lamar and Mahomes have had over Burrow and Allen (eventhough Mahomes and Lamar are both more physically gifted than Allen and definately more than Burrow).
@@kevinschirmer4694 have you seen Burrows defense these past 2 years? The Cincy defense is elite. Burrow has averaged only 23 ppg and a 93 QB rating in his playoff career. I think the defense is carrying Burrow, not the other way around.

20-0, 6000 total yards, 60 total TD's, MVP, Super Bowl MVP and a dominant victory over the Chiefs in the playoffs. That's what it would probably take for anybody to take Patrick's crown by the end of next season. One amazing season from any of the young QB will never be enough to dethrone Mahomes. Patrick has 2 SB MVP’s, 2 regular season MVP’s and 2 Superbowls. Burrow, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence have a combined ZERO. That’s how great Mahomes has been. It would take 2-3 dominant seasons from any of those QB to even put them in the same conversation as Patrick. The only QB that can at least gain an inch to Mahomes resume is Lamar Jackson who at least has an MVP in his resume. If Lamar leads the Ravens to a Superbowl and win Superbowl MVP then we can all take this topic seriously. Until then, its like comparing Michael Jordan (Mahomes) to the Ewing, Barkley, Malone of the league.

Not this season, even if Burrow wins MVP and the Superbowl, he'll need to do it twice to be on par with Mahomes.

Meaning he can only hope to tie him in accomplishments at this point. Not to mention the wide disparity in both their overall career regular season and postseason stats. Burrow has been mediocre in the past two playoff runs (23 ppg and 93 qb rating) and has been heavily supported by an underrated elite Cincy defense.

Burrow is very calculating in everything he does. Mahommie is all about improv. Two different styles altogether.
Lamar would have to lose one game max, throw over 50 TDS, 5000 yards, and be regular season and Superbowl MVP, and beat Mahomes in the AFC Championship game. It's feasible, but highly unlikely. No other QB is in the vicinity of being able to get alongside Mahomes this year.
If Lamar and Mahomes went up against each other with same level of weapons as each other, who would win?

Oh that’s not all he needs to do. He needs to get back to the MVP level which he hasn’t been in for a few years. The book has been written on Lamar and that’s why he hasn’t been as successful, even though he still been successful. Lamar would need to have a basically perfect playoff run with basically no mistakes and have a historic MVP year and beat Mahomes in the playoffs by a couple of scores, at least to even be considered in the conversation to dethrone Mahomes and even that would probably not be enough.

I will say there is a conversation about the coaching being a huge factor for Mahomes and his separation from other quarterbacks. Reid is definitely an all time coach and is an offensive genius and out of all the other guys he’s been in the best situation. He’s had the best coach in football, arguably the best tight end to ever play, and up until this last season he’s had the most dangerous offensive threat in football in Tyreek.

I think Joe Burrow and the Bengals is the only team that can dethrone Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs Dynasty, but it will require more than 1 year to do it. All other teams basically mortgaged their futures in an attempt to win now, but it got them no closer...now the bill is come due and they'll be taking several steps backwards (Bills, Broncos, Colts, Raiders), maybe the Jaguars can become a real threat depending on how they finish out this off-season.

To all Chiefs fans who ask the question can you imagine what Mahomes would look like if he had Burrow's WR is irrelevant. That's because Burrow's WR's wouldnt work in Reid's system. Chase, Higgins, ect are all verticle threats and the last time Mahomes threw vertical concepts like posts, seams, corners, come backs, curls was like NEVER. Cincinnati actually runs a difficult deep vertical scheme that Mahomes could never execute. If you asked Mahomes to sit back in the pocket like Burrow and throw deep concepts he wouldn't last 1 game in the NFL. Reid's system relies on screens, shovel passes, jet sweeps, ect. The short stuff. The only time Mahomes ever throws it beyond 30 yards is to that HOFer TE otherwise he prolly wouldn't even bother. So please Chiefs fans, stop complaning. Mahomes needs quick, fast, YAC guys and hes got them a plenty. This is why Reid's system can make any QB look good. It has. I understand Chiefs don't understand various football schemes and they think WR's can fit anywhere but that's just not the case. Putting Jamarr Chase on a bubble screen or asking Tee Higgins to run a jet sweep just doesn't make any sense.

Okay here me out on this one because it's gonna be a spicy take. What if Burrow has a great year and wins MVP. Then AFC championship rolls around and its chiefs vs bengals. If the bengals win that and the superbowl after giving Burrow that MVP as well, he becomes 4-1 all time against Mahomes. He would then have 2 super bowl appearances to Mahomes 3. Obviously Mahomes still has two chips and he would have one but you start to wonder if he is the kryptonite to the chiefs glory. Even if all of that did happen I still probably have Mahomes ahead by a little bit just off accolades alone but it does make the conversation interesting. Especially that 4-1 ratio. Course it is a team sport and all.
If he pulls that then it would close the gap. Mahomes would still have the slight edge but it will mean that burrow will have a good chance moving forward to catch up to him.
