- The Elizabeth D. Kay Environmental Center was dedicated on October 28, 1993. This property, once called Hidden River Farm, was donated by the Kay family to be used as an environmental center, where "each day would bring a new wonder and challenge to learn." The first parcel was acquired on March 29, 1962.
Elizabeth D. Kay (1894-1987) and her husband Alfred were known for their contributions to horticulture, conservation, humanitarian causes and the arts. Mrs. Kay was interested in horticulture and conservation on many fronts. She was founder and three times President of the Garden Club of Palm Beach, Florida; and member of the Garden Club of Somerset Hill. In 1960, the Kay’s established the Pine Jog Environmental Sciences Center on their farm in West Palm Beach, Florida reflecting their interest in ecology and desire to attract children to nature.
The Kay’s made carriage trails through fields and woods that wind down to the Black River where a dam was built to create a deep and calm swimming pool with a diving board. A summer house was built alongside the ‘pool’ with showers, changing rooms, a fireplace, and a terrace. Only stone foundation ruins remain today.
Very interesting. No graffiti is a plus. Thanks for sharing.
this place is stunning..
Far out! What a fun place to spend an afternoon exploring!
Pretty cool
Nice video!
Thank you Craig
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures live in FL now but would hike NJ trails frequently. Friend of mine and her daughter hiked that and the picture was by the ruins which piqued my curiositiy. I would've guessed it was an old mill based on the waterfall, but found your video and also a web page from the Chester historical society. Love these historical digs, great stories, they really are. If practical, not sure if its practical, but it'd be great if you could do the old German bund camp on top of Federal Hill in Bloomingdale, NJ (land might belong to Tilcon so you might not be allowed up there)
I’ll have to check it out
Such a beautiful place and the ruins are fascinating and a little sad. I wonder what it looked like back when. Thank you for the vid.
This place is amazing. I wish I could see it myself
I have been there. Years ago when devereux deerhaven was around. It's calm and peaceful. I miss that place.
People should pay you to narrate and explain their life man you have the voice for it! I feel like I learn a history lesson watching your videos Mr. Patrick!
What a cool place. Like to seen what it was like back in the day!
So awesome to see these places! I’m from New Jersey didn’t know about this! So cool!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing your adventures
I would have a place for you to explore
It's amazing, thank you.
Patrick! New to your channel but recognize you from the countless expertly crafted airstream videos. Awesome job on your NJ outdoors channel!
Nice, I am your neighbor on the island of Staten.
Just came across your channel, really enjoy your videos. New subscriber. thumbs up...
I hike there at least 3 times a month. I consider that's place New Jerseys rain forest like you mentioned
It's always wet there. I could be wrong, they don't let mountain biking there. It's a good thing, it would be crowded and this building would never be what it is now.
Great place especially if you like to hike that trail along the river and get off the trail all together. Great
..I live in jersey and iv never seen these places
I'm scared to leave my house but now I kinda wanna go and explore
nice videos!
I have one question🤔💛 is this property owned by somebody or is it for sale 🤗💚please leave info thank you💛💚
Such a shame that it wasn't restored
Looks like it might’ve been an old millhouse.
👍🏽
Looks very old, imagine what it is what like in it's prime
This is so sad :-(
Thank you very much for watching
