- The Way of the Gun is a 2000 American film produced by Kenneth Kokin, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Ryan Phillippe, Benicio del Toro, Juliette Lewis, Taye Diggs, Nicky Katt, and James Caan.
One of my absolute favorite movies. A neo-western with no heroes, just varying shades of bad.
Glad I'm not the only one who sees the Spaghetti Western DNA.
This was a masterpiece.
I disagree, Parker and longbaugh were the heroes. They started as the villains, but in the end, saves her and her babies life

Underrated in that the performances of Ryan and Bencico were well received but they should have put them in the running for awards.

Underrated for Benicio and Ryan yeah. But Sarah Silverman's performance was spot on too.
I'm not condoning hitting women but eh.. I kinda understand that scene.
I will never understand why this film didn't receive more attention. I absolutely adore this film. Usual Suspects was a masterpiece but I liked this even more!
I think maybe because overall the plot of this movie had no specific direction or sense. It was just wayward bunch of diverging scenes put together with no underlying concert storyline.

@@reckz420 the 2nd and especially Final acts of this film are amazing. It builds to a crescendo beautifully.
I knew it was severely underrated the first time I saw it when I was 17. It was competing with the likes of Gladiator, Traffic, Erin Brokovich, etc. One of my favorite movies of all time. First one that really made me a fan of Benicio Del Toro. It was the first ever DVD I purchased and put that sucker in my ps2.
None of those are even in the same league as WotG. Of those, only Gladiator is even worth watching.

@@jonnybirchyboy1560 no he was saying that it was severely underrated at the time it came out as it makes it pretty hard competing with 3 other movies that had at least 3x the production budget and staring "A" List actors making $20 million a picture which is around the same cost as the entire budget of the way of the gun.
@@jonnybirchyboy1560 I agree 3oo% and then some. The Underrated comment phenomenon via CZcams is the sheep wanting to make a comment for whatever annoying motivation or incompetence. Enough said and the movie is in my Top 5 of all time favorite motion pictures, # 4.

And maybe @Jonny Birchyboy is saying, it's just an ok movie & therefore not underrated. Or maybe he thinks it's fantastic & his experience is that people refer to it as a great film, and that might be a different experience, than what some of us (who think it's underrated) have had

Under rated movie. Definitely Ryan Phillipe and Benicia del Toro best work.
This film is loaded with near perfect performances, and I use the term "near" loosely. Ryan and Benicio are such interesting characters! The writing and directing are also top notch!
Probably hollywoods finest movie. Pace, Suspense, Dialogue and a great cast. Perfect really

This isn't a movie, it's a FILM, and it's one of the coolest fucking films I've ever seen and definitely one of my favorites. So much badassery. So many great one-liners. Too bad Parker and Longbaugh didn't survive they could've started working for Sarno.
Jiggley Krowzer I like to think that's exactly what happened...they weren't dead in the film, even still had things to say...Sarno didn't like those other guys, but he did like at least Longbaugh. ..that's why Sarno intentionally went with leg shots... he thought, see if they survive this...if so, I'll neutralize, then they're broke down and Sarno can say "This is your only option, and it's a pretty good one."
Plus, they saved his daughter and grandchild. He owed them.

@@MerlautJones maybe the prostitutes we're nearby and came back and showed them kindness. Longbaugh had a flake jacket it may have limited chest wound penetration.
One of my all time favourite movies.
This is an underrated movie.
The writing on this movie was top notch, and the action scenes are phenomenal.

Phillippe and Del Toro get the spotlight but its Juliette Lewis who grounds this film. Love it so much, but admit its overplotted and an embarassment of riches in the supporting acting department. Taye Diggs, Nicky Katt kill it as poe faced hitmen and who can forget Caan rocking his dad bod in the tightest of collared shirts throwing his understated weight around. Had this been trimmed by about 30 minutes, it might have been everyone's classic but instead it is the guilty pleasure of the few. Also Sarah Silverman, Dylan Kussman from dead poets; they were fantastic in their small but meaty contributions. Lewis gives her best since Cape Fear and Kalifornia. Such a treat to see all these actors in such good form. I bet no one could keep from turning away on first viewing during that hella gory birth c section. What a gut punch on top of a nad kick with a side of funny bone on wood smack to the nerves that scene was.

The only thing I don't like about this movie, and that quote, is the 3 grand comment. There's no way in hell a "donation" is worth that much, even now. Much less in the era this movie was made.

I don't think the film is underacted , it's just not a movie made to please everyone. Something like that the high and low scores are going to balance out someplace in the middle. Anyway while I tend to like my heroes to be a little less anti, I 'm archaic enough to appreciate anything that isn't afraid to wear it's testosterone on it's sleeve.

I never in my life had a chosen path in fact you can say I kinda fit in the slacker category if life was reversed then freakin Benjamin Button I’ll be but truth be told Ryan’s right there is a natural order to things like bad guys lose good guys win still though these days is chaos going supernova and people are caught in the path so each time I watch this movie here and know someday I can get my chosen path going who knows maybe I’ll be the one to find a billion in twenty dollar bills a terrifying prospect there😱.

For about 5 years after Pulp Fiction there were a tonne of Tarantino imitators and most of them were terrible. This movie's far from perfect but it's up there with Guy Ritchie's early work as one of the best post-Tarantino movies.
Worse than a waste of time.
