- Ever wonder if "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" characters played as themselves in the #thps game? Here is a little insight from some THPS Alumni; Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Jamie Thomas, Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek and Kareem Campbell!

The funniest thing about Mullen's response is that I, 100% believe him. I believe he's said that he loved that concept of the game but never played it. Ha. What a boss. Completely in his own world and I love it. He probably said, "when's the check coming?" Not in a greed-driven manner but because his skate brands were hurting around the release of THPS1 - Mullen's no stranger to his teams falling apart and riders leaving but he's always kept on, keeping on. Truly, none other like him in the world.

I'm pretty sure he had already sold a skate business at that point and was very well off financially at the time.(not that another brand of his could be hurting at the same time)
also people underestimate how much rondey created besides tricks, he basically invented the modern board. Id be surprised if he isnt still making money off of patents.
He said he really enjoyed the experience of working with the programmers / motion capture guys tho.

@@chuckbangers2590Rodney might not play video games but he plays on computers a bit. He's a Debian fan and has said a couple times he likes hackers because their creative solutions remind him of skateboarding. Listen to his Ted Talk sometime.

I remember when my cousin introduced me to the game and I didn't know who to pick, so he showed me their skate clips. We got to Rodney's clip and I said, "I like him!" And he's been my favorite skater ever since!

Hearing Mullen say, "Never played it." always gives me a chuckle, haha! During the OG THPS games I played as Hawk and Mullen the most just because their impact on the sport was so vital and I just loved their personalities. THPS 1&2 remastered was definitely a blast and a fun trip down memory lane. Don't forget about Officer Dick!

Tbh that game can be so good if they fix few things like observer, multiplayer, and chat window or chat with other skaters
I beat it with every character for the clips, but my favorite was mullen.

This game brought skating back from the dead and made it what it is today. Skating would've never died, but it wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular as it is now without it. I'm a gamer who did a little bit of skating in the early 00's, but it was because of this game and I now love the artistry of the sport and it's legacy. Rodney Mullen still just blows my mind...

for thps1 on ps1 i use Bob for the glitch special. iirc it's Left, Up, Square+Circle while in the air and you get massive points.

Rodney Mullen saying he never played it is very on brand. Completely appreciative of the game and what it did for skating, but ultimately more interested in things other than video games.

Well maybe in the 80s he was just like anyone else and went to arcades but then the consoles took over and he was more focused on skating. I could see him maybe doing pinball games.
It's funny how when the remaster came out it "looked just like I had remembered it" but then you look back at what it actually looked like 20 years ago and you can't believe it.

i played as Rune in THPS2 because he had an yellow hoodie with carbo shorts and i really liked that look at the time
I didn't stick with skating, but it did introduce me to punk along with Green day and Nirvana.
love how jamie thomas realized his character in game was OP
I also used to play as Jamie Thomas back in the day, he summed it up perfectly in the first two games, his rail balance made it easiest to rack up points, also if I can remember properly he had one of the highest pop stats and switch stats.

He's good at switch skating? Never knew/noticed that. I know currently Paul Rodriguez is phenomenal at switching.
@@alejandroramirez4470 Jamie Thomas was an innovator of switch skating especially skating ledges and handrails switch as early as the mid-late 90's Jamie was already throwing down tricks like switch 5-0 and switch lip down handrails back then
? but you could inpove stats. I never really played thps1. I started on 2. I can't remember who I started with. but you could combo. so mullen was good.
you do alot of flip in grind flip grind flip grind flip etc.
why. every trick was X2. so you do a special grind on a rail and get 9000.
you do a normal grind but kick in nose grind. shove it tail slide heel nose heel nose pop shove board slide etc and you will come of the same rail at 13000 say, then you hit a manny and do some flips to mannie etc. and then it turns into 80,000 ;)

Funny because I always played as Rodney. Man THPS2 and THUG were my two favourites by far.
I loved Rodney’s video part in THPS 3. I had rented the game from Blockbuster back in the day and recorded his part onto a VHS tape so I could watch it after I returned the game 😭

I did learn to skate because of tony hawks pro skater. I had a board as a kid. like (7-8) and then thps2 came out and I got another board. I think I was 13

Always used The Boss Andrew Reynolds! I wish, similar to how NHL video games have "classic controls" options, that the EA Skate, Session or Skater XL games had a "Classic Controls" option so you could have the graphics and realistic physics of them BUT with "THPS" styled controls! Lol Im so terrible at the new games because of the controls. Maybe it feels better having to work harder for tricks like real life but i just wana do some tricks, not math problems lol

True story I actually fell in love with skating because of Tony hawk, and then his game came out when I was only 4 years old and I could not put it down now 20 years I have my own kids got the new game play it constantly still and skateboard still and got my kids to love it lol
